Vijayawada: The construction of a new, state-of-the-art cancer care campus for Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (BIACH&RI) has officially begun in, a part of Andhra Pradesh's capital region. The foundation stone was laid on Wednesday by the hospital's chairman, Nandamuri Balakrishna, in a traditional puja ceremony. The project, which faced significant delays after its initial foundation stone was laid in 2019, is now moving forward following the new state government's decision to clear all hurdles and allot an additional six acres of land. The new facility will be built on a total of 21 acres. Speaking at the launch, Balakrishna explained that the new campus is envisioned as a 'Centre of Excellence' for comprehensive cancer treatment, research, and patient care. The facility will integrate cutting-edge medical technology with a multidisciplinary approach. The second phase will add another 500 beds, bringing the total capacity to 1,000. It will include the development of specialised departments, research wings, and enhanced patient amenities, with the goal of creating a regional referral center for complex cancer cases. The launch event was attended by several dignitaries, including Assembly Speaker Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, ministers P Narayana and Y Satya Kumar, along with MP Kesineni Shivnath, MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar, Dr Undavalli Sridevi and other prominent leaders and officials. Trust board members, including Dr Dattatreyudu Nori and Nara Brahmani, were also present. In his remarks, Balakrishna expressed his gratitude to all donors and supporters, emphasising that the project would carry forward the hospital's legacy of compassion and excellence. Dr. Senthil Rajappa, head of Medical Oncology, assured that medical services at the new facility would be operational by 2028.

Hindupur MLA and actor Nandamuri Balakrishna on Wednesday, August 13, launched the construction of the Amaravati campus of the Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute at Thullur. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Balakrishna said the new facility would be built on 21 acres and envisioned as a Centre of Excellence for comprehensive cancer treatment, research, and patient-centric care. The hospital would combine advanced medical technology with a multidisciplinary approach, housed in a purpose-built modern infrastructure, he added. The project will be completed in two phases. In the first phase, a 500-bed facility offering oncology services will be set up, adopting an integrated care model covering prevention, early detection, treatment, and rehabilitation. This phase is being developed with an investment of ₹750 crore, and operations are expected to start by 2028. In the second phase, an additional 500 beds will be added along with specialised departments, research wings, and enhanced patient amenities, creating a regional referral centre for complex and advanced cancer cases. According to the hospital, the foundation stone for the cancer care facility was laid in 2019 after the TDP government allotted land. However, construction was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. With the TDP-led NDA government back in power in the State, all hurdles have now been cleared, and the government has allotted an additional six acres for the project. Mr. Balakrishna, who is also chairman of the cancer hospital, launched the works by performing traditional puja rituals. Ministers P. Narayana and Satya Kumar Yadav, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, Heritage Foods Executive Director Nara Brahmani, Trust Board member Nori Dattatreyudu, and others participated in the ceremony.

Hyderabad: Nandamuri Balakrishna was recently spotted at Prasad Labs, busy dubbing for his much-awaited film 'Akhanda 2'. While the focus was on his upcoming film, the veteran actor also engaged in a significant interaction with several prominent Tollywood producers regarding the current challenges facing the industry. Producers Maitri Ravi, Chamber President Bharat Bhushan, Gopinath Achanta, and Damodar Prasad met Balakrishna to brief him on the existing concerns plaguing the Telugu film industry. They also conveyed the latest resolutions taken by the Active Producers Guild in response to the ongoing crisis. Prasanna Kumar, Secretary of the Producers Council, was also present during the discussion. Balakrishna, known for his straightforward views, expressed strong support for the producers and offered practical advice. 'Every hero should strive to do more films each year to keep the industry running smoothly. Personally, I do four films a year,' said Balakrishna, stressing the need for consistent content flow to sustain industry momentum. He also underlined the importance of cost-effective filmmaking. 'Producers must take conscious steps to avoid unnecessary increases in production costs. Only then can we strike a balance,' he added. Addressing concerns about worker unrest and union-related issues, Balakrishna said, 'The workers are an integral part of the film industry.
