Gram sabhas held in village panchayats as part of Independence Day celebrations
District Collector R. Sukumar participated in a gram sabha organised at Reddiyarpatti village panchayat on Palayamkottai outskirts as part of the Independence Day celebrations along with Nanguneri MLA Ruby R. Manoharan on Friday. The meeting, in the presence of the Collector and their MLA, discussed in detail about the development works implemented in the rural local body like drinking water projects, road works etc., its revenue and the expenditure incurred. As the financial transactions were tabled in the meeting, the participants gave their consent for the report. The participants were urged to segregate the solid waste getting generated in their houses and the shops into degradable and non-degradable while being handed over to the sanitary workers visiting their houses. The meeting also appealed to the public to avoid use-and-throw plastic products. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sukumar urged the homeless poor to submit their application in the village panchayat office so that the right beneficiaries would be selected for getting the houses. The dairy farmers were asked to keep their cattle in the shed instead of allowing the domestic animals to roam around in the village. The Collector also appealed to the public to submit their grievances in the 'Ungaludan Stalin'camps so that they would get the right solution within 45 days. When the villagers submitted petition to the Collector to sanction a library for Reddiyarpatti, Dr. Sukumar promised that it would be constructed soon. District Revenue Officer M. Suganya, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency Saravanan, Deputy Director of Health Services Velmurugan, Assistant Director of Panchayats Mohammed Shafi and others participated in the gram sabha. In Tenaksi district, Collector A. K. Kamal Kishore participated in the gram sahba organised at Sivasailam village under Kadayam panchayat union. He exhorted the villagers to be aware of the development works being implemented in their village and specific needs to be taken-up with the officials concerned for getting implemented. The Collector appealed to the villagers to keep their area clean and green. After giving consent for the audited results of the village panchayat accounts, the meeting resolved to implement drinking water schemes for ensuring sufficient supply of drinking water to every house. Mr. Kamal Kishore also received petitions from the public.

Second phase of deworming tablet distribution commenced
Nanguneri MLA Ruby R. Manoharan inaugurated on Monday the second phase of the distribution of deworming tablets to students in connection with the 'National Deworming Day'. Since the deworming tablets are being distributed to children twice a year – in February and August – Mr. Manoharan distributed the 400 mg albendazole tablets to the students of Government Higher Secondary School at Reddiyarpatti on Palayamkottai outskirts on Monday. 'The tablets will be distributed to students on August 11 and 18. The children left out on August 11 will get the tablets on August 18,' Mr. Manoharan said. A total of 4,11,683 persons between the age of 1 and 19 and 1,08,893 women in the age between 20 and 30 will be given this tablet in Tirunelveli district to protect them from anaemia and strengthen immunity. Tenkasi District Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore inaugurated the deworming tablet distribution at Manjammal Government Higher Secondary School. In Tenkasi district, the tablet will be distributed to 3,08,483 children between the age of 1 and 19 and 68,595 women between the age of 20 and 30.
