Lucknow: The state govt has allocated Rs 37.4 crore for the distribution of artificial limbs and assistive devices, along with Rs 2 crore dedicated to the distribution of motorised tricycles, to persons with disabilities in 2025-26. On Tuesday, minister of state (independent charge) for Backward Class Welfare and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Narendra Kashyap, reviewed Divyangjan welfare schemes and directed officials to prepare an action plan in collaboration with ALIMCO for the proper implementation of the scheme. He also directed officials to conduct the distribution of motorised tricycles under the centrally-supported ADIP (Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances) Scheme at the earliest. The minister said that an accurate list of motorised tricycle beneficiaries should be uploaded on the ARJUN portal. He said that this list must be updated regularly to prevent duplication and to make the distribution process completely transparent. He also said that no eligible beneficiary should be left out. Lucknow: The state govt's scheme to provide financial aid to couples from OBCs at the time of marriage is witnessing huge success. Under this, govt provides Rs 20,000 to an OBC girl on her marriage. According to data from the UP backward classes welfare department, the number of girls benefiting from this scheme nearly doubled in 2024-25 compared to the previous financial year. While 55,551 girls were given aid in the previous year, the number surged to 1 lakh in 2024-25. Minister of state (independent) for backward classes and empowerment of persons with disabilities Narendra Kashyap stated that the Yogi Adityanath govt's objective is to provide dignified marriage opportunities for daughters of poor OBC families. "This scheme is more than just financial aid; it's a step toward ensuring equality and dignity. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath envisions a society where no daughter from a poor family feels overlooked on her wedding day. We are moving steadily towards that goal. So far, over one lakh girls have benefited and we aim to significantly expand this reach in the coming years," he said. The income limit is now raised to Rs 1 lakh, which has allowed more families to avail themselves of the scheme. The income eligibility has been standardised for both urban and rural beneficiaries. In light of this change, the department has also substantially increased its budget. In 2024-25, the backward classes welfare department's budget was Rs 2,789.71 crore, an increase of Rs 451.08 crore from Rs 2,338.63 crore in 2023-24. Govt plans to launch an extensive publicity campaign to ensure that the scheme reaches as many eligible individuals as possible. The budget allocation for the backward classes welfare department has seen a major rise under the BJP govt's tenure. While the total expenditure from 2012–13 to 2016–17 stood at Rs 6,928.71 crore, it surged to Rs 14,969.55 crore between 2017–18 and 2025–26, an increase of Rs 8,040.84 crore.

Lucknow: In a first, the Uttar Pradesh govt has allocated Rs two crore for the maintenance of to create a better learning environment for them. Minister of State for Backward Classes and Divyangjan Empowerment (Independent Charge), Narendra Kashyap, said: "Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath aims to make the OBC community self-reliant. He said, "In CM Yogi's vision, real development reaches the last person in the queue — and this vision is now being translated into reality. The minister informed that the step was among the many taken by the Yogi govt to improve the life of OBC students. "These efforts are reshaping the role of the OBC community — from merely receiving govt benefits to becoming active contributors in the state's development journey. Once struggling for basic amenities, the OBC community is now moving ahead with confidence in areas like education, employment, and social dignity," he said. Listing out the measures, a govt spokesperson said: "In the financial year 2024–25, the budget for the Department of Backward Class Welfare increased to Rs 2,789.71 crore — Rs 451.08 crore more than last year. This increase shows the Yogi govt's strong commitment to not just treat OBCs as beneficiaries, but to empower them as active contributors to society." They added that the govt connected over 30 lakh OBC students to mainstream education through scholarship and fee reimbursement schemes worth Rs 2,475 crore — 5 lakh more students than last year. "Under the post-matric scholarship scheme, financial aid ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 was provided in four categories. The govt also took major steps in the area of social security. Under the marriage grant scheme, this year one lakh OBC couples received Rs 20,000 in support, compared to just 52,553 couples last year. Additionally, the income eligibility limit has been standardised to Rs one lakh for both rural and urban areas, allowing more people to qualify for the benefits.

Hyderabad: BJP OBC Morcha National President and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Laxman stated that while the Congress party has been in power for an extended period, it has failed to conduct a caste census. On Saturday, he spoke at a round table meeting organised by the 'Backwards Classes Centre for Empowerment' (BCCE), chaired by BCCE Director and BJP Telangana State Spokesperson Virender Goud. The meeting focused on the topic 'Caste Enumeration – Future Construction of OBCs – Social Justice.' Dr Laxman emphasised that there is a significant number of Backward Classes (BCs) in the country, and their welfare was neglected during the Congress government's tenure. He pointed out that after the formation of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, various welfare schemes were introduced for BCs. Uttar Pradesh State BC Welfare Minister Narendra Kashyap attended as a special guest, along with R Krishnaiah, National President of the BC Welfare Association and Rajya Sabha member; Parikipandla Narahari, Principal Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh State Public Health Engineering Department; former Chairman of the State BC Commission Vakulabharanam Krishnamohan; and several others, including Naragouni Goud, ex-IAS officer, Chiranjeevulu, CLN Gandhi, and experts in various fields, including constitutional experts, educationists, social workers, and leaders of various associations took part in it. Minister of State for BC Welfare Narendra Kashyap expressed that the Yogi Adityanath government is committed to the welfare of BCs in Uttar Pradesh. He noted that BCs are advancing in all areas due to the efforts of the BJP government at both the centre and the state. Lucknow: Terming the Centre's decision to conduct a caste survey as 'historic', UP minister and state BJP OBC morcha chief Narendra Kashyap said that the step will help the deprived, backward and neglected sections of society gain a rightful identity. Addressing reporters at the state party office, Kashyap said that the survey was a step towards social justice . "This decision will prove effective in changing lives of 1.4 billion citizens and addressing their social, educational, economic, and political needs," he said and added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed the ideology of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas". "Each of his decisions proves effective in taking the country to new heights of development," he said. "This will write a new chapter of development for the backward society," the minister said, noting that it is for the first time in the country that a survey of backward and extremely backward castes will be conducted. He slammed the Congress for ruling the country for 60 years but not mustering the courage to conduct a caste survey. "It deceived the backward society with false promises," he charged, accusing the grand old party of adopting a double-faced approach towards the backward classes . "The reality is that Congress govts have opposed caste-based census until now," he said, adding that despite giving assurances in Parliament in 2010, the Congress did not conduct a caste-based census.
