Should intruders be allowed to vote? BJP's Naresh Bansal defends SIR exercise in Bihar
ANI "Should intruders be allowed to vote?" BJP's Naresh Bansal defends SIR exercise in Bihar Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal on Saturday defended the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise by Election Commission (EC) in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, asking whether "intruders" should be allowed to vote and influence the government."This is the process before every election. There hasn't been a special review for many years, which is why SIR is happening... Should intruders in the country, who do not have rights to our resources or government, be allowed to vote and influence the government? Everyone's answer will be no. Keeping these three things in mind, the Election Commission has taken action," Bansal told ANI. "There will be a fair election. Those who have the right to vote will vote. Citizens will cast their votes," he added. Congress leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, earlier today, asserted that the election system in India was "already dead," and alleged that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were "rigged" and that he has proof to substantiate the claim. Addressing the annual legal conclave titled 'Constitutional Challenges - Perspectives & Pathways', Gandhi said that he suspected over 80 Lok Sabha seats were rigged in the 2024 general elections. "The truth is that the election system in India is already dead. The Prime Minister of India holds office with a very slim majority. If 15 seats were rigged, we suspect that the number is over 70 to 80, he would not have been the Prime Minister of India. We are going to prove to you in the coming few days how a Lok Sabha election can be rigged and was rigged," Gandhi said while addressing the gathering in the national the six-month investigation carried out by Congress, he further alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) doesn't exist and has disappeared. According to documentation received from the EC, Gandhi said that the Congress has ascertained that nearly 1.5 lakh voters out of 6.5 lakh who voted in the Lok Sabha elections were "fake".After Rahul Gandhi alleged "vote theft" earlier, the Election Commission of India fact-checked his claim over "irregularities in 2024 Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka. ECI said that the statement made by the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha is "misleading, baseless, and threatening."

Strategic Push to Bolster Chemical Sector Gains Momentum following 'Manthan Shivir'
New Delhi: The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers has laid the groundwork for implementing key recommendations arising from the 'Manthan Shivir' held on April 17, 2025. Minister of State Anupriya Patel confirmed in a written response to a question raised by Naresh Bansal, Kesridevsinh Jhala, Dr. Anil Sukhdeoarao Bonde, Dr. K. Laxman, and Dr. Kavita Patidar on Tuesday. The question sought details on how the Ministry plans to translate the thematic discussions from the Shivir into actionable steps. The 'Manthan Shivir' was organised to find ways to enhance India's chemical and petrochemical sectors as part of the broader national vision for Viksit Bharat @2047. During the Shivir, the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals identified six major thematic areas for focused discussion, including industrial innovation, sustainability, skill development, and institutional collaboration. In her reply, Smt. Patel stated that the Ministry has adopted a 'Whole of Government' approach involving inter-ministerial coordination to streamline implementation. Participating entities included the Ministries of Revenue, Pharmaceuticals, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, MSME, Science & Technology, and Textiles, along with organisations like CSIR, Bureau of Indian Standards, Central Pollution Control Board, and various public sector undertakings. Furthermore, the Ministry confirmed that several Gujarat-based institutions contributed to the discussions and that pilot projects may be initiated in priority districts of Gujarat, reflecting an applied and region-specific follow-through. The suggestions received during and after the Shivir are currently under examination, and further stakeholder consultations are ongoing with industry associations and government departments across India. The initiative is seen as a pivotal step in repositioning India's chemical sector for global competitiveness, domestic resilience, and sustainable growth. Delhi-Dehradun Expressway To Be Ready By October, Gadkari Tells Rajya Sabha
Last Updated: A total of 17,913 trees have been felled/transplanted for the project, he said, adding that compensatory afforestation is being carried out The Dehradun-Delhi Access Controlled Expressway has led to the loss of 17,913 trees that were either felled or transplanted, the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The House was also told that the expressway is expected to be ready by October 2025. The entire Delhi-Dehradun expressway will reduce the travel time between the two cities from 5-6 hours to just 2-2.5 hours. It will start from Akshardham in east Delhi and pass through Baghpat, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, and Saharanpur. Uttarakhand MP Naresh Bansal had asked the ministry about the project. In his reply, union minister Nitin Gadkari said that the access-controlled highway, built with Rs 11,868.6 crore, is targeted for completion by October 2025. 'For the execution of the project, a total of 17,913 trees have been felled/transplanted. As an environmental mitigation measure, compensatory afforestation in a total of 157.2 hectares of land with a cost of Rs 22.05 crore is being carried out by the respective Forest Departments," Gadkari said. An additional Rs 40 crore has been allocated for eco-restoration to the Shivalik and Dehradun forest divisions in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, respectively, Gadkari said. Gadkari assured that adequate landslide mitigation measures have been taken up at potential landslide locations as per the Indian Road Congress (IRC) codal provisions. Last month, News18 reported that the NHAI had launched an initiative to plant approximately 40,000 trees along the Delhi-Dehradun corridor. The expressway promises to significantly cut travel time and ease congestion. Apart from easing the journey from the national capital to Dehradun, the expressway will also help in reducing congestion in parts of east Delhi. The entire corridor is designed for driving at a minimum speed of 100 km/hr. Originally slated for completion by March 2024, the project faced delays. A partial inauguration was planned around the New Year, but it was postponed. Now, the full stretch will be inaugurated in one go. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
