513 motorists fined for fancy regn plates & black films
Nashik: The Nashik Regional Transport Office (RTO) found 244 vehicles with fancy number plates and 287 with black films in a special drive from May 29 to June 10. RTO officials said, "We imposed a fine of Rs3.87 lakh on a total of 531 motorists having either fancy number plates and black films. Fancy fonts on the registration number plates make it difficult for police to figure out the number of the vehicle. For instance, the digits 4141 are painted in such a way that it spells 'dada' in Marathi. Many people, who have outlets for preparing registration numbers, have various fonts for alphabets as numerical digits. The makers of the registration number plates play with the font, size, and letters. Some outlets use small and thin fonts, making it difficult to figure out the vehicle's number. RTO officials said, "We conduct special drives time and again against erring motorists so that they do not indulge in repeated violations. In view of the same, we took up a special drive against fancy number plates and black films on the glasses of cars. Black films can also found on window panes of private passenger buses." Deputy RTO of Nashik, Rajashree Gund, said that the action will be continuous in the future. "Hence, motorists are appealed to not use fancy numbers on their registration number plates. In addition, they are also not use black films on the glasses of four-wheelers, which could attract action from the RTO or the police," she advised.

Nashik: The Nashik Regional Transport Office (RTO) acted against 692 private buses from Jan to April-end this year for overcharging, operating without valid tax payment, not carrying fitness certificates, and carrying more than the permissible number of passengers in the bus, among other violations. The officials also said they consistently conducted checks on private luxury buses across the district to ensure they follow traffic rules, in view of fatal accidents involving private luxury buses in Nashik and elsewhere in the state. Nashik RTO Pradeep Shinde said, "We are continuously acting against erring motorists across the district. However, overloading trucks and buses are continuously on our radar. Over four months, private bus operators were booked for violation of different rules." Officials said that most of the time, buses do not have properly functioning reflectors and indicators. "There are also buses that do not carry fire-fighting instruments. Bus operators are found negligent about getting the non-functioning indicators, reflectors, wipers, lights, etc., repaired. However, these small things at times become the major reason for accidents," said an official. However, there were also some bus operators who did not have the mandatory fitness certificates or did not pay the annual taxes, apart from the regular problem of carrying more than the permissible number of passengers in the buses. A senior official from the Nashik RTO said, "Across the district, our flying squads are on the roads keeping a check on the overload trucks and private buses. The action against such vehicles is taken on the Mumbai-Agra Highway, NashikPune Highway and other state highways in view of everyone's safety on these roads."
