513 motorists fined for fancy regn plates & black films
Nashik: The Nashik Regional Transport Office (RTO) found 244 vehicles with fancy number plates and 287 with black films in a special drive from May 29 to June 10.
RTO officials said, "We imposed a fine of Rs3.87 lakh on a total of 531 motorists having either fancy number plates and black films.
Fancy fonts on the registration number plates make it difficult for police to figure out the number of the vehicle. For instance, the digits 4141 are painted in such a way that it spells 'dada' in Marathi.
Many people, who have outlets for preparing registration numbers, have various fonts for alphabets as numerical digits. The makers of the registration number plates play with the font, size, and letters. Some outlets use small and thin fonts, making it difficult to figure out the vehicle's number.
RTO officials said, "We conduct special drives time and again against erring motorists so that they do not indulge in repeated violations. In view of the same, we took up a special drive against fancy number plates and black films on the glasses of cars. Black films can also found on window panes of private passenger buses."
Deputy RTO of Nashik, Rajashree Gund, said that the action will be continuous in the future.
"Hence, motorists are appealed to not use fancy numbers on their registration number plates. In addition, they are also not use black films on the glasses of four-wheelers, which could attract action from the RTO or the police," she advised.

Uber, Rapido booked for offering bike taxi service sans permission
MUMBAI: The Azad Maidan police station has registered a case against ride hailing apps Uber and Rapido for allegedly running bike taxi services in the state without any permission or license. The two firms have been booked for cheating and operating bike taxis without valid licenses and registration under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, the Information Technology Act, 200, and the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. 'Though the state government has not given any permission to operate bike taxis, Uber and Rapido were found offering rides on bike taxis through their online platforms,' said an officer from the Azad Maidan police station. 'The companies are illegally transporting passengers and earning profits from the same by cheating the state government.' The Maharashtra cabinet had, on April 1, approved the introduction of electric-bike taxis in cities with a population of at least 100,000, aiming to create over 10,000 jobs in the Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR) and another 10,000 jobs in the rest of the state. The state government subsequently issued draft rules for e-bike taxis, and sought suggestions and objections within June 5. The final rules are slated to be tabled in July. The police said RTO officials booked dummy rides on both Uber and Rapido and found private two-wheelers with white number plates were being used to run commercial services. 'Bike taxis may help beat the traffic but requisite permissions are still not in place,' said the police officer quoted earlier.

Luxury cars registered in Puducherry face road tax scrutiny in Mys
Mysuru: Close on the heels of the seizure of five high-end cars for non-payment of road tax, luxury vehicles are under road tax scrutiny. Some who use high-end cars prefer to buy them in the Union Territory of Puducherry because of higher road tax in Karnataka, according to officials. As most high-end car users take out their vehicles late in the evening for a drive or when vehicle movement is less, regional transport authorities are planning a drive to verify the lifetime road tax paid receipts after dusk. The shortage of personnel has been impeding them from effectively conducting checks. Usually, high-end car buyers register their vehicles in the Union Territory of Puducherry as the road taxes are less when compared to Karnataka, officials said. Whereas in the state, lifetime road taxes collected are approximately 20% of the car's value, in Pondicherry it is cheaper as the lifetime road tax for vehicles above Rs 20 lakh is just over Rs 1 lakh, sources claimed. Assistant regional transport officer (ARTO) Ramachandra, who is holding additional charge as RTO, Mysuru West, said in Bengaluru the transport department regularly conducts checks, and on average four to five high-end cars are seized a day. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo However, in Mysuru, they seized five cars registered in Puducherry in two days. Four are seized and kept at the RTO office, while one is seized and kept in a police station. All these vehicle owners are residents of Mysuru and used the vehicles for more than a year, he stated. "We have a special team to keep an eye on such vehicles to verify tax paid receipts and would plan special drives after office hours to verify road tax paid receipts," the ARTO explained. An officer explained that they noticed many luxury car owners maintain a residence proof in Puducherry solely for vehicle registration purposes or may have business there but use the Pondicherry-registered vehicles in Karnataka. This practice leads to significant revenue loss for us. As tourists, they can visit Karnataka and return, but can't use outside registered vehicles beyond 12 months. The police estimates that dozens of high-end vehicles registered in Puducherry are being used in neighbouring states. According to a high-end car user, Karnataka has some 2,500 luxury cars of different brands from Rolls-Royce to Bentley, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Range Rover, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, and Porsche. Sources claim many high-end vehicles, 15-years-old and more, banned in Delhi are used in Mysuru and Karnataka. Abhishek Hegde, managing director of Naksha Honda, said it is mandatory for any non-transport vehicle, registered outside Karnataka, being used in our state for more than a year, that the owner must pay lifetime road tax which is approximately 20% of the total ex-showroom value of the vehicle.
