513 motorists fined for fancy regn plates & black films

Nashik: The Nashik Regional Transport Office (RTO) found 244 vehicles with fancy number plates and 287 with black films in a special drive from May 29 to June 10. RTO officials said, "We imposed a fine of Rs3.87 lakh on a total of 531 motorists having either fancy number plates and black films. Fancy fonts on the registration number plates make it difficult for police to figure out the number of the vehicle. For instance, the digits 4141 are painted in such a way that it spells 'dada' in Marathi. Many people, who have outlets for preparing registration numbers, have various fonts for alphabets as numerical digits. The makers of the registration number plates play with the font, size, and letters. Some outlets use small and thin fonts, making it difficult to figure out the vehicle's number. RTO officials said, "We conduct special drives time and again against erring motorists so that they do not indulge in repeated violations. In view of the same, we took up a special drive against fancy number plates and black films on the glasses of cars. Black films can also found on window panes of private passenger buses." Deputy RTO of Nashik, Rajashree Gund, said that the action will be continuous in the future. "Hence, motorists are appealed to not use fancy numbers on their registration number plates. In addition, they are also not use black films on the glasses of four-wheelers, which could attract action from the RTO or the police," she advised.
