Stubborn Stellenbosch frustrate Zamalek in Confederation Cup Quarterfinal - Egyptian Football
Zamalek was left frustrated in South Africa after Stellenbosch held them to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal on Wednesday. The Egyptian giants controlled much of the possession but failed to find the cutting edge needed to break down a resolute Stellenbosch defense. Zamalek created their best opportunity late in the second half when substitute Nasser Mansi saw his close-range header tipped onto the post by goalkeeper Sage Lottering in the 86th minute. The rebound was cleared as Stellenbosch narrowly escaped what would have been a heartbreaking concession. The first half was a measured affair, with Zamalek setting the tempo early. Seifeddine Jaziri and Mostafa Shalaby tested the South African backline with a few half chances. Keeper Mohamed Awaad had little to do in the opening 45 minutes but remained alert, especially during a dangerous cross from Ashley Cupido and a near-post header by Andre de Jong in the 72nd minute. Both sides made key substitutions in the second half to influence the contest. Stellenbosch's Ibraheem Olalekan and Sanele Barns came on to inject pace, while Zamalek introduced Mahmoud Gehad and Nasser Mansi in search of a breakthrough. Despite their late surge and attacking intent, Zamalek couldn't convert their dominance into goals. Stellenbosch, meanwhile, showed tactical discipline and will be satisfied with the result, taking a clean sheet back to Cairo for the second leg. Zamalek will now look to capitalize on their home advantage in the return leg in Cairo on 9 April. The winner will face the victor of the Masry-Simba clash in the semifinals. Zamalek cruise past Enppi to gift Peseiro his first win - Egyptian Football
Cairo giants Zamalek returned to winning ways with a commanding 3-0 victory over Enppi in the Egyptian Premier League's 17th matchday at Arab Contractors Stadium on Tuesday, handing Portuguese coach Jose Pesiero his first win. Zamalek's victory was fueled by a second-half brace from midfielder Abdallah El-Said and a clinical finish from striker Nasser Mansi. The win marked a crucial turnaround for manager José Peseiro, whose side had failed to secure a victory since his appointment on 14 February, drawing 1-1 against Petrojet, Ahly, and ZED FC in succession. Zamalek pressed from the opening whistle, eager to score early and ease pressure on their players, but they failed to create any genuine opportunities. Three minutes into the first half, striker Nasser Mansi nearly broke the deadlock when he connected with Omar Gaber's precise pass from the right wing, firing a right‐footed shot from close range that was saved by Enppi's goalkeeper Abdel-Rahman Samir. The White Knights controlled much of the game, dominating Enppi in their own half, while the Petroleum side relied on rapid counter-attacks that were consistently rebuffed by Zamalek's defence. In the 28th minute, Zamalek's Portuguese coach, Jose Peseiro, was forced to make a change after winter signing Tunisian winger Ahmed Jafeli suffered a muscular injury, introducing Mohmed Hamdi as his replacement. Despite sustained pressure, Zamalek failed to breach Enppi's resolute defense before halftime. The visitors grew into the game as the half wore on, ensuring the teams entered the break goalless. Peseiro reshuffled at halftime, introducing veteran playmaker Abdallah El-Said in place of defender Hossam Abdel-Maguid to inject creativity into midfield, which proved inspired. Five minutes after the restart, Zamalek were awarded a penalty following a VAR-confirmed handball by Enppi defender Khaled Ahmed. El-Said stepped up calmly, slotting a low right-footed finish into the bottom corner to ignite the scoreboard in the 53rd minute. Mansi doubled the lead in the 66th minute, rising brilliantly to head home Moroccan fullback Mahmoud Bentayg's looping cross from the left flank. Zamalek continued to surge forward, with El-Said orchestrating attacks, but Enppi's defense held firm until stoppage time. Four minutes into injury time, the 39-year-old maestro sealed his brace, and the victory, firing a first-time strike into the roof of the net after latching onto substitute Seif Gaafar's cutback from the left. The result solidifies Zamalek's hold on third place with 32 points, seven behind leaders Pyramids FC and four adrift of arch-rivals Ahly, though both rivals have a game in hand. Meanwhile, Enppi remain rooted in the relegation zone at 17th with just 12 points. Zamalek beat error-prone Gouna to move up to second in the Egyptian League standings - Egyptian Football
Zamalek secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Gouna on Monday to move up to the second place of the Egyptian Premier League just one point behind leaders Pyramids FC. Currently occupying the second spot on the table with 20 points, Zamalek shares this position with Ahly who were held by Pyramids FC on Sunday On the other hand, Gouna remains rooted at the bottom of the table with a mere six points to their name. Nasser Mansi kickstarted Zamalek's dominance with an early goal, heading in a precise assist from winger Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed from within the penalty area just eight minutes into the game. Gouna's Ahmed Hossam managed to pull one back for his side, nodding in a header from close range to level the score eight minutes before halftime. The visitors paid for their mistakes in the second half that saw a complete domination from Zamalek. Tunisian striker Seifeddine Jaziri came off the bench in the 62nd minute only to score one minute later capitalizing on a rebound from the Gouna goalkeeper Mohamed Alaa within the penalty area to restore the Whites' lead. Abdallah El Said further extended Zamalek's lead by capitalizing on a critical error by the Gouna goalkeeper in the 73rd minute. The goalkeeper strayed from his area to intercept the ball but inadvertently directed it towards the unmarked Zamalek winger, who promptly dispatched it into the empty net. In injury time, Jaziri was left alone in the six yards to slot home his second of the night and his team's fourth. Zamalek's next challenge awaits them against Pyramids FC in the 11th matchday of the Egyptian League on Friday.
