Zamalek beat error-prone Gouna to move up to second in the Egyptian League standings - Egyptian Football
Zamalek secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Gouna on Monday to move up to the second place of the Egyptian Premier League just one point behind leaders Pyramids FC.
Currently occupying the second spot on the table with 20 points, Zamalek shares this position with Ahly who were held by Pyramids FC on Sunday
On the other hand, Gouna remains rooted at the bottom of the table with a mere six points to their name.
Nasser Mansi kickstarted Zamalek's dominance with an early goal, heading in a precise assist from winger Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed from within the penalty area just eight minutes into the game.
Gouna's Ahmed Hossam managed to pull one back for his side, nodding in a header from close range to level the score eight minutes before halftime.
The visitors paid for their mistakes in the second half that saw a complete domination from Zamalek.
Tunisian striker Seifeddine Jaziri came off the bench in the 62nd minute only to score one minute later capitalizing on a rebound from the Gouna goalkeeper Mohamed Alaa within the penalty area to restore the Whites' lead.
Abdallah El Said further extended Zamalek's lead by capitalizing on a critical error by the Gouna goalkeeper in the 73rd minute.
The goalkeeper strayed from his area to intercept the ball but inadvertently directed it towards the unmarked Zamalek winger, who promptly dispatched it into the empty net.
In injury time, Jaziri was left alone in the six yards to slot home his second of the night and his team's fourth.
Zamalek's next challenge awaits them against Pyramids FC in the 11th matchday of the Egyptian League on Friday.

How do you feel approaching this upcoming TotalEnergies WAFCON?I'm training seriously, even though the national league season is over, because we'll be facing top-tier teams like Nigeria, Algeria, and Botswana. As a striker, I aim to contribute positively to the team's performance by scoring goals to raise the profile of our team and promote Tunisian women's football. What does it mean to you to wear the Tunisian jersey in such a prestigious competition? Wearing the Tunisian jersey has always been a childhood dream. I've been with the national team for a long time, and I still feel immense pride every time I'm called up. Competing in continental tournaments and scoring goals there is a real privilege. The feeling never gets old—it grows stronger each time. How did you prepare mentally and physically for the tournament?I've dedicated these past two months to optimal physical preparation. Mentally, just hearing the Tunisian national anthem is enough to fire me up. It gives me the energy and drive to represent our country with determination. Tunisia is in Group B with Nigeria, Algeria, and Botswana. What are your thoughts on this group? Nigeria is the most decorated team in the WAFCON. In the last edition, they were eliminated in the semifinals by host nation Morocco. We beat Botswana in a friendly last year in Tunis. As for Algeria, their playing style is similar to ours, and we've won both of our recent matches against them. That said, official matches are completely different from friendlies. Our coaching staff is analysing every opponent in detail to prepare us well. What are Tunisia's goals for this TotalEnergies WAFCON?We want to deliver a strong performance and reach the knockout stages. In the last edition, we made it past the group stage for the first time in 12 years before being knocked out by the defending champions, South Africa. That was a major step forward. It's hard to reveal specific strengths, but what really sets us apart is our unity, our teamwork, and the absence of ego. What lessons did you take from the 2022 edition in Morocco?Many players from the current squad weren't there in 2022, but the team spirit remains the same. This title adds to what was already a significant achievement winning the Moroccan Botola Pro, which was very tough. Was that a strong motivation for this season's success? Yes, continuing the work we started last season was one of the key reasons behind this year's success. That defeat fuelled our determination to come back stronger. Looking back, what do you think was the key factor behind RS Berkane's success and the double this season? We had an intense and demanding pre-season. I want to thank all the players for the sacrifices and the huge effort they put in throughout the campaign. Pyramids FC defeated South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the second leg of the final on Sunday in Cairo, securing a 3-2 aggregate win and clinching their first-ever CAF Champions League title. Writing on his official Facebook page, President El-Sisi said: 'I extend my sincere congratulations to the Pyramids FC team and Egyptian sports fans on this historic achievement of winning the CAF Champions League for the first time in its history.' 'This victory embodies the spirit of determination and perseverance that has always characterized Egyptian sports,' he added. 'It confirms our clubs' ability to compete strongly on the continental and international levels. I wish Egyptian football continued success in all arenas.' With the victory, Pyramids FC became the fourth Egyptian team to win Africa's premier club competition, joining the ranks of Ismaily, Zamalek, and record champions Al Ahly. They also became only the fifth Egyptian club overall to win a continental title, alongside Arab Contractors SC. The win also boosts Egypt's dominance in the CAF Champions League, bringing the country's title tally to 19 — the highest in Africa.
