Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said this effort will not only enhance the security of the country's water resources but also drive Malaysia towards becoming a dynamic water hub with potential contributions to economic development, job creation, and facilitating research and development. 'In this context, the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) plays an important role in strengthening cooperation at the federal, state and local government levels towards integrated water management. 'The transformation of the water sector towards more efficient water management requires an integrated information system to safeguard water security and ensure ecosystem sustainability for a better future,' Fadillah said at an event here, reported Bernama. He was speaking at the 2025 JPS Senior Managers and District Engineers Conference here yesterday, which was also attended by Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud. Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said efficient and sustainable water resource management remains one of the main focuses of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), especially as issues of clean water supply security and changing rainfall patterns due to climate change become increasingly critical. Under Thrust A7 – Strengthening Flood Mitigation and Adaptation – the government emphasises implementing more comprehensive, integrated and innovative strategies to increase the nation's resilience to increasingly complex and high-impact flood disasters. 'As the main technical agency in managing national water resources, Petra hopes JPS will continue to lead in ensuring integrated, sustainable and resilient water resource management in Malaysia. 'JPS is also expected to strengthen its role as a facilitator of the national water policy at the state and district levels so that there are no gaps in planning and implementing water-related projects,' Fadillah added.

Intellect without morals creates scammers, warns Kelantan MB
Nassuruddin stressed that academic success must be balanced with personal development, warning that students may easily lose direction once they join university. Mohd Nassuruddin - PHOTO SINAR/ADILA SHARINNI WAHID KOTA BHARU – Individuals who excel academically but lack moral grounding are at risk of becoming harmful to society, much like professional scammers. According to Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud, the rise in cases involving highly skilled scammers, capable of deceiving senior officials, corporate figures and even national leaders, proves that intellect alone is not enough without strong ethical and religious guidance. Outstanding STPM and STAM students are seen with dignitaries. - PHOTO SINAR/ADILA SHARINNI WAHID 'Those involved in scams are intelligent, not foolish. 'They've managed to trick policemen and even leaders. This shows they're misusing their intelligence," he said. He made the remarks while speaking at the Kelantan State Outstanding Student Appreciation Ceremony held at Kota Darul Naim on Wednesday. At the event, 12 high-achieving students, including four national-level award recipients for outstanding performance in the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) and seven 10 Mumtaz achievers in the Malaysian Higher Religious Certificate (STAM) 2024, each received an RM1,000 incentive. Nassuruddin stressed that academic success must be balanced with personal development, warning that students may easily lose direction once they join university. 'In school, there are rules, discipline and a dress code. But at university, there's a cultural shock, more freedom, more open friendships and that's where many begin to drift,' he added. He stressed the importance of instilling a strong foundation in religious practices, such as maintaining prayer, respecting parents and using the Quran as a guide in life. 'Failing in these areas can lead to misconduct, even in those who excel academically. 'We don't want to produce students who succeed in exams but use their intelligence to harm society," he said. He urged students to continue building excellence, character and integrity through their university years and beyond, becoming valuable assets to both the state and the nation. 'The state government is fully committed to supporting education through various forms of assistance, including Yayasan Kelantan Darulnaim (YAKIN) loans, which can be converted into scholarships for outstanding students,' he said. Putrajaya approves RM6.6m for slope repairs at Kelantan water treatment plant
KOTA BHARU: The federal government has approved an allocation of RM6.61 million to fund slope repair works at the Bukit Remah water treatment plant in Tanah Merah. Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud said the repair works were necessary following a landslide that occurred last November. He said the state government had promptly submitted an application to Putrajaya after the incident, demonstrating its commitment to protecting public welfare. "In response to the incident, the state government approved an initial allocation of RM235,000 to finance two studies by the Public Works Department, a soil investigation and a detailed topographic survey, aimed at assessing the full extent of the damage and planning remedial works. "The state's prompt action was well received by the federal government, which subsequently agreed to provide the multi-million ringgit allocation for the repair works. "We are deeply grateful to the federal government for this meaningful approval. "We will ensure the issue is resolved swiftly in the interest of the people," he said in a Facebook post. Nassuruddin said the landslide, triggered by continuous heavy rainfall on Nov 26, 2024, caused a 130-metre ground movement that severely damaged the sheet pile structure at the water treatment facility. He said the incident also resulted in the rupture of both raw and treated water pipelines, and posed serious risks to key infrastructure, including the chlorine control room, chemical storage tanks, and a Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) substation. He said the matter reflects the spirit of mature and constructive politics, as well as strong federal-state cooperation in addressing issues that affect the rakyat. "The people's voices will continue to be brought forward with sincerity and responsibility. "This is a clear example of effective federalism in action, carried out for the common good," he said.
