Bristol in Pictures: Dreaming of Twickenham
Anyone got plans for Friday? With Bristol Bears set to face Bath at the Rec in a winner-takes-all match to reach the Premiership final at Twickenham, we feel like more than a few people will be glued to their TVs. Away from the sporting action - which saw Gloucestershire begin the defence of their T20 title - Love Saves The Day and Good Times Live rounded off last weekend, as did the Portishead Sea Shanty Festival. Three choirs from Bristol have been celebrating award wins, and the Forbidden Worlds film festival has been rolling back the years on the big screen. Friday Fun: The SeatUnique ground in Bristol was packed on Friday night as Gloucestershire began the defence of their T20 title. It didn't go their way, Kent winning a close game, but fans saw plenty of runs. Next up at home is the big one against Somerset on 13 June. Crowded house: Love Saves The Day came to an end at Ashton Court on Sunday, when the sun came out for the thousands of ticket holders. Rocking on: Natalie Imbruglia was one of the acts that helped bring the curtain down on Good Times Live at Chipping Sodbury last weekend, although the comedy shows continued into Bank Holiday Monday. Making their point: Visitors to Berkeley Castle got to see history come alive as knights of old clashed as part of a jousting-themed weekend. Diving in: The Forbidden Worlds Festival has returned, this year with a line-up of films based on, under and around the world's oceans, partly to celebrate the 50th anniversary of horror classic Jaws. The festival continues on Sunday with The Whale God, Below and Alligator at the Bristol Megascreen. They've bin busy: There was a grand opening this week of Bristol Waste's new £5m Materials Recycling Facility in Avonmouth, which the company says will increase the city's overall recycling capacity. Cheers: The Spirit of Bristol Gin cruise has been taking groups around the city centre waterways aboard the Tower Belle while they sample different spirits named after different parts of the city. High praise: The Almondsbury Community Shop has been given the King's Award for Voluntary Service - the highest award given to volunteer groups in the UK and equivalent to an MBE. The village shop, entirely run by volunteers, received its award from Edward Gillespie OBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire. Sailing on: The Portishead Sea Shanty Festival saw shanties aplenty played at venues across the town last weekend, all in aid of the RNLI and Children's Hospice South West. In harmony: Bristol's reputation as a city of singing was strengthened when three barbershop choirs won national chorus trophies at the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) annual convention. The winners were Bristol A Cappella (above) and The Great Western Chorus and The Bristol Mix (below). Helping out: The specialist debt team at Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire has been shortlisted for a national award after their work helping people from their offices in Yate and Staple Hill. Natalie Imbruglia's 1997 classic Torn has finally hit No.1 in the UK
Natalie Imbruglia's 'Torn' has made it to number one in the UK - almost three decades later. The 1997 classic narrowly missed out on the top spot to Aqua's 'Barbie Girl', but after 28 years, a new chart by Greatest Hits Radio from PPL, has sent it soaring to the top. The Top 30 Countdown of the Most Played Songs of the 21st Century from the '70s, '80s and '90s sees 'Torn' trump Police classic 'Every Step You Take' and Whitney Houston's 'I Wanna Dance with Somebody' to pole position. The chart was commissioned as part of Greatest Hits Radio's Vinyl Revival for Cash for Kids Day on Thursday (01.05.25) and was revealed by host Kate Thornton on her afternoon show. The DJ said: "Natalie has finally had her revenge on Barbie Girl and has made it to Number One! And what a meaningful chart this is, Torn has proved to be the true pick of the pops when it comes to the music broadcast across the airwaves. Proof yet again that the Greatest Hits of yesteryear continue to live on." Natalie said: 'I can't believe 'Torn' has landed the number 1 spot on the Greatest Hits Radio Top 30 rundown! Wow! …. Phil Thornalley congrats to you my friend and luckily I still love singing it!! Thanks to all the listeners and see you at the summer shows!" Kate Reilly, Chief Membership and People Officer at PPL, added: "PPL is delighted to support Greatest Hits Radio with the Top 30 most played songs of the 21st century across three seminal music decades. The listeners are in for a real treat and plenty of surprises along the way." Listen to the full chart rundown via

Brighton Pride street party moves to new location
Brighton & Hove Pride's Village Party will be held on the seafront this year, instead of St James's Street as normal. Thousands of ticketholders usually pack into St James's Street and the surrounding roads to watch outside DJs, performers and other live events over Pride weekend. But this year, the roads will remain open to vehicles and the event will be moved to Madeira Drive. Brighton & Hove City Council said the event had been moved because some residents raised concerns during a consultation around access, safety and locals feeling excluded. "As a result, we have adapted this year's event, putting residents' needs at the forefront and supporting our local businesses," said Councillor Birgit Miller, cabinet member for culture, heritage and tourism at the council. Venues are instead being invited to create "pop-up" bars in Madeira Drive for this year's Pride, held on the first weekend in August. The council said it would continue consultations with businesses in St James's Street in the coming months. Plans for two weekends of acts at Pride in the Park have also been scaled back to just one weekend, as in previous years, after concerns from residents living near Preston Park. A spokesperson for Brighton & Hove Pride said: "Pride remains committed to working closely with local LGBTQ+ venues to foster a safer, more inclusive space for the community to celebrate with friends and allies in the new location. "Venues outside the new event footprint will be invited to participate and we are committed to supporting them in making this a thriving Pride weekend."
