Former 'Bachelor' Star Faces Backlash Over Upcoming Age-Gap Dating Show
Nick Viall is one of the most polarizing Bachelor stars, not only for his time on the franchise, but for the relationship advice he offers on his podcast, The Viall Files. Now, he and his wife, Natalie Joy, are capitalizing on their 18-year age gap marriage with a new Netflix dating show, Age of Attraction. The news was announced on July 18 by the streaming network, revealing that the show will launch in 2026. More from SheKnows Bachelor in Paradise Spoilers Reveal Who's Engaged & Who's Still Together After Season 10 The logline for the series reads, 'Age is thrown out the window as singles search for their soulmates with help from hosts Nick Viall and Natalie Joy. Is love truly ageless, or will the years come between them?' The eight-episode series will feature contestants ranging in age from 22 to 59 years old. This age-gap idea is not much different from the reality star's relationship — Viall is 44 and Joy is 26 years old, and they share one child, daughter, River, 1. His decision to marry a much younger woman has gotten him in hot water quite a few times. On his March 26 podcast, Viall joked, 'Age gaps are in. I always say, when it comes to age gaps, looks matter.' Even though he made the statement in jest, the internet criticism reached a boiling point because Bachelor Nation fans take issue with his casual approach to his May-December affair. 'Their obsession with trying to justify their very concerning age gap is just gross,' wrote one Reddit user in The Bachelor forum. 'Ew to Netflix for greenlighting this. Hope their show is a monumental wreck and tanks so hard. And so fast,' another account added. Of course, some viewers are definitely going to hate-watch the series just for research. 'I'm gonna get judged so hard for watching this,' admitted another user. Viall and Joy began dating in July 2020 after she slid into his DMs on Instagram with a simple, 'You're unreal' comment. It was love at first DM. They soft-launched their relationship on social media in October 2020 when they posted pool snapshots from the same location. It took them until January 2021 to go Instagram official. The former Bachelor contestant addressed the age-gap controversy in June 2022 on the Call Her Daddy podcast. 'At first, it was something I think I was having a lot of anxiety about,' Vial said. 'You know, like, 'Are we going to be compatible?' And I think early on, that was part of the things I would worry about. But just the more I got to know her, the more I was just going to her for advice or just checking in with her, I just felt like we just met each other on the same wavelength, and I always felt like she was my equal.' Joy contributed her thoughts on the situation, 'We realized we were on the same stages of life, and we were ready for the same things … I'm in a place where I want to get married and have children, and he's also in that same place. We both have big careers and aspirations and jobs and stuff that we both love.' Viall and Joy got engaged in January 2023, welcomed their daughter in February 2024, and were married in April of SheKnows Everything We Know About Carolyn Bessette's Life Before JFK JR 29 Times Gisele Bündchen's Red Carpet Fashion Proved She's the Ultimate Supermodel 68 Celebrities Who Share a Famous Ex Solve the daily Crossword

Viewers disgusted by 'gross' age-gap dating series coming to Netflix
Netflix and former Bachelor star Nick Viall are being slammed by viewers over a 'gross' dating series about age-gap relationships. Age of Attraction, which was announced by the streaming giant this week, promises to match singles with their soulmates, regardless of age. It will be hosted by Viall, 44, and his wife Natalie Joy, 26, who is 18 years his junior. 'Age is thrown out the window when singles search for their soulmates. Is love truly ageless, or will the years come between them?' Netflix said in a brief statement. While little else is known about the series, the participants range from age 22 to 59. The eight-episode first season was already filmed in Canada, but it won't air until next year. A lot of viewers have already expressed their displeasure with the controversial series. 'They can't seriously have thought this would be a good idea,' commented one. 'Nick Viall creating a dating show centered around age gap relationships… this man is not right in the head,'wrote another. A third commented, 'We got "looks don't matter" with love is blind. Now we're getting "age doesn't matter". What's next?' Age of Attraction also received a negative reaction on Reddit, with one user writing, 'I love that the youngest age is 22, older than Natalie was when they started dating.' A second said, 'I hate this. But… I wonder if they will show older women with younger men, or just continue to promote lecherous older men.' Despite now being married with a child, Nick and Natalie's relationship has been criticized by fans for years due to their almost two-decade age gap. It's unclear exactly how old Natalie was when they started dating, with various estimates putting her age at anywhere from 19 to 21. A lot of viewers have already expressed their displeasure with the controversial series During an appearance on The Squeeze podcast in 2023, Nick said that he turned Natalie down 'many times' before they got together due to her age. 'The age for me was something I was self conscious about,' he admitted. Natalie also said that she's been trolled online relentlessly due to the age disparity. 'It's definitely weird to have so many people give you their opinions,' she said. 'DMs of mean comments about [how] I'm a "child bride". Just terrible, terrible things people would call me,' she continued. 'I was like, I am going to spend the rest of my life with this man, and I knew it and he didn't, so I was like, I'm gonna hang on because he'll come around.' Nick and Natalie married on April 27, 2024, after dating for four years. They started dating in July 2020, after she slid into her direct messages on Instagram. 'I think DMs are a great place to meet people. My current girlfriend slid in my DMs. Real clever, it said, "You're unreal." I guess it was funny. I was more curious why I was unreal,' he told E! News in 2022. The couple went Instagram official in January 2021, with the lovebirds making the red carpet debut four months later. The duo got engaged in January 2023 and announced she was pregnant with their first child in August 2023. Their daughter River Rose was born on February 2, 2024.

How Nick Viall, Natalie Joy's 18-Year Age Gap Shaped Age of Attraction
Originally appeared on E! Online Nick Viall and Natalie Joy's rosy romance came with some thorns. Indeed, the Bachelor alum, 44, admitted that his nearly 20-year age gap with his wife, 25, was a point of contention in their relationship that they had to work through. "When we first met, I had a lot of nervousness, and reservations and fears about why we wouldn't work, and I got in my head," Nick told E! News in an exclusive interview. "It was just about removing those fears, and not operating from a place of fear, but looking at what was great about our relationship." "We have so many great aspects of our relationship, and a lot of that came from us working through our own preconceived notions about why we might not work," he added. "We're so glad that we did. With the relationship we have now and the family we have." With the couple—who share 17-month-old daughter River—coming out stronger after navigating those concerns, hosting Netflix's upcoming series Age of Attraction was the perfect opportunity. "This is a show that allows people to just meet people, [by] getting rid of some of those preconceived notions and barriers, and focus on 'Is there chemistry? Is there compatibility?'" the Bachelor Nation star explained. "That was something that was really exciting for us, because we obviously relate to that." For Natalie's part, it was essential that the series shared a positive insight into the dynamics of these relationships. "We obviously have an age gap and it's something that has been talked about, whether good, whether bad," she told E!. "This is something that going into it—it's a bright light on age differences and relationships of age differences." Meanwhile, Nick also noted that the show's release comes at a unique time in pop culture. "We have a time in the world right now where so many people are feeling lonely, so many people are complaining about the dating climate out there, how hard it is to make connections," he emphasized. "There are a lot of great connections out there to be made, if you can get out of your head." And for the reality star, getting out of his head transformed his life. "Speaking about Natalie and I, it's the most compatible relationship I've ever had," he said. "I could go on and on about it. We spend a lot of time together—our free time, raising our daughter, we enjoy doing things together. We have a great connection."
