Play based on Anton Chekhov's short stories ‘The Good Doctor' to be staged in Mysuru

After staging 19 successful shows across Bengaluru and Hyderabad, the play 'The Good Doctor' is all set to tickle the people of Mysuru for the very first time. This full length, rip-roaring comedy unfolds at Natana Rangashale premises in the city on August 10 between 6.30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are available on the District platform and also at the venue. Set in the early 1970's of Russia, the original script, based on the short stories by writer Anton Chekhov, is masterfully crafted by American playwright Neil Simon, according to a press release here. The performance is produced by Team Illuminating Windows. A blend of Simon's wit and Chekhov's depth, 'The Good Doctor' is a comedy, that is, by turns charming, hilarious, poignant, and touching. In the current production with its adaptation to India, the narrative gains a native 'tadka', adding a unique cultural flavour to this timeless tale, the release said. The play, set in 1970's India, unfurls in 4 states – Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh, it added. 'The audience are drawn into a world of stories, each shaped by the writer's experiences and brought to life through his imagination. Each of the four vignettes stand alone, yet the characters' behaviour and their story resolutions remain delightfully unconventional and unpredictable,' the release stated. Srilalitha Pamidipati has adeptly adapted the original play to the Indian context and has further directed the production that will leave the audience in splits of laughter and poignance, the organisers here said. Dramaturgy of the play is by Deepak Subramanya aka Jayanth of the teleserial 'Lakshmi Nivasa'. He also essays the role of the writer in the current production. The play boasts of a major cast of actors, all of whom have dramatised characters to life across both on screen (TV and cinema) and the stage. Music for the play has been composed by M.S. Prasannaand, and the lights have been designed by Sambit Debnath.
