Kentucky baseball downs Northern Illinois before the start of SEC play
Kentucky baseball downs Northern Illinois before the start of SEC play After having their ten game winning streak snapped, the Kentucky Wildcats baseball team had no choice but to start a new one. They finished off the series with Wofford with a win, then on Tuesday got another victory, this time over Northern Illinois. The Wildcats got out to a quick start, scoring three runs in the first inning. They'd score three more in the third, with a Devin Burkes single driving in two. It would get to 8-1 before the Huskies would score again. The Cats would tack on one more in the ninth to win it 9-2. Kentucky used six pitchers in the game, and they gave up a total of four hits and two runs. Nate Harris went five innings, and the bullpen closed things out. Harris got the win, his third of the year. The offense was spread out for the Wildcats. Shaun Montoya, Luke Lawrence, and Devin Burkes each had two hits. Lawrence, Burkes, and Dylan Koontz had two RBIs apiece. SEC play begins on Friday, with Kentucky beginning a three game series with the Georgia Bulldogs, who are a top five team currently.
