When is the next full moon? Here's how to see the April Pink Moon in Colorado

In March, Coloradans who had cooperating skies were able to see the Blood Moon and take in the reddish-orange hues of the first total lunar eclipse visible across the U.S. in three years. April brings the first full moon of spring. It is called the Pink Moon — even though it won't change color — among other names that give a nod to early signs of spring. It is also a micromoon, appearing almost as small in the sky as possible for a full moon to be. It is also a significant moon for its importance to the timing of Christian religious holidays. Here's more about the Pink Moon. The Pink Moon will occur on April 12, 2025. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the full moon will reach peak illumination at 6:23 p.m. MT. No. April's full moon gets its name from the early spring bloom of creeping phlox, a pink flower found in parts of eastern North America, according to Starwalk. April full moon names bestowed by Native Americans largely pay homage to signs of spring, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. They include: The Breaking Ice Moon (Algonquin) and Moon When the Streams Are Again Navigable (Dakota) recognize how warming tempers are melting ice in rivers. The Budding Moon of Plants and Shrubs (Tlingit) and Moon of the Red Grass Appearing (Oglala) point to new plant life. The Moon When the Ducks Come Back (Lakota), Moon When the Geese Lay Eggs (Dakota), Frog Moon (Cree) and Sucker Moon (Anishinaabe) call attention to animals. April's full moon will be a micromoon. This occurs when the moon is at its farthest point from Earth, known as its apogee. The distance makes it appear smaller and dimmer than usual; it is the opposite of a super moon. This year, April's full moon is the first one after the spring equinox, making it the Paschal Moon in Christianity. For most Christians, the date for Easter — April 20 this year — is set as the first Sunday following the Paschal Moon. When is the next full moon? Here's how to see May's flower moon in Colorado

With a total lunar eclipse behind us and a nova explosion expected any day, there has been plenty to get excited about in the skies this year. And coming up in just a few days is the May full moon, known as the flower moon. It will be the second consecutive micromoon and once again gets its name from plant life emerging and blooming. Its alternative names similarly reference plant life. Here's what to know about the May full moon in 2025 including the meaning of its various names and when to check out the skies above. May's full Flower Moon reaches peak illumination at 10:55 a.m. MDT in Denver on Monday, May 12, according to Time and Date. It should appear bright and full from May 11 through 13. As you might guess, it comes from the arrival of spring flowers. Researchers and contemporary writing source the name to Indigenous people, either Algonquin or Dakota, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. Most other names for May's full moon highlight the blooming plants or the time to plant for the farming season. Budding Moon and Leaf Budding Moon (Cree) Egg Laying Moon and Frog Moon (Cree) Moon of the Shedding Ponies (Oglala) Planting Moon (Dakota and Lakota) May's full moon will be a micromoon. This occurs when the moon is at its farthest point from Earth, known as its apogee. The distance makes it appear smaller and dimmer than usual; it is the opposite of a super moon. The June full moon, known as the Strawberry Moon, arrives on Wednesday, June 11. Nate Trela covers trending news in Colorado and Utah for the USA TODAY Network. There will be a new place to get your fix of double-doubles, animal fries and Neapolitan shakes north of Denver. In-N-Out Burger has announced a new location in Brighton is 'coming soon' on the company's website. It's one of seven new locations listed around the country, along with restaurants in California, Washington and Arizona. The company did not provide a firm date for the opening to USA TODAY. The California-based chain opened its first locations in Colorado in 2020 and has grown along the Front Range at a deliberate pace since. It has followed a consistent pattern of locating close to highways or major roads and large retail areas. More: 2 Colorado cities are among the cheapest places to retire, study shows. Here's why In-N-Out's newest Colorado location will be at 3860 Eagle Blvd., Brighton. It's a few miles off U.S. 85 if approaching from the north or a few blocks of Buckley Road if approaching from the south. In-N-Out has 12 locations in the state, including outposts in Arvada, Aurora, Castle Rock, Colorado Springs, Denver, Lakewood, Lone Tree, Loveland, Parker and Thornton. While most of the chain's locations are currently in metro Denver and Colorado Springs, northern Colorado is a target for expansion. Shared public spaces can be places for making connections to a community. They can also be sources of pride when they stand out among the best in the U.S. USA TODAY 10BEST had a panel of experts nominate community places that make cities feel like home in several categories, including the best city parks and recreational trails. Readers then made their choices for the best of the bunch, including tapping the South Platte River Trail in Julesburg as the No. 7 recreational trail. It was one of only three trails in the continental U.S. west of the Mississippi River to make the list. Here's a look at the latest Colorado place to be recognized in the USA TODAY 10BEST Reader's Choice Awards. The 19-mile loop – the shortest byway in Colorado – was recognized by USA TODAY 10BEST as being 'ideal for history buffs.' The site highlighted the Fort Sedgwick Museum, which focuses on a fort built in 1864 to protect telegram lines and early settlers of the western U.S. It also gave a nod to the Hippodrome Arts Centre, a theatre that opened more than a century ago and still shows movies in addition to hosting community groups and providing arts access. In addition to those points, the South Platte River Trail connects to the Lincoln Highway – the nation's first coast-to-coast car route – and Colorado's only Pony Express Station. This Colorado small town was named one of the best in the US. Here's why you should visit

The hustle and bustle of big cities isn't for everyone. Whether you are on vacation or making a move, a different pace or vibe can be the right fit. That's why USA TODAY 10BEST convened a panel of experts to name the best small towns in the US across several categories and regions. And they chose Breckenridge as the No. 8 small town in the western U.S., the only Colorado town to make the annual list. (Golden, Durango and Manitou Springs made the grade in previous years.) The towns, all with fewer than 25,000 residents, were chosen for their diverse offerings, according to the site. Here's what made Breckenridge stand out this year in the USA TODAY 10BEST Reader's Choice awards. Breckenridge's standing as one of the top ski destinations in North America was the first reason cited for its place on the list, with 10BEST noting it was 'known for its exceptional slopes, energetic après-ski culture, and preserved historic charm.' But even when the snow has melted, Breckenridge gives outdoors enthusiasts plenty to do, including hiking, mountain biking and exploring nearby alpine lakes. And year round, Breckenridge has a plethora of craft breweries and a burgeoning restaurant scene.
