Francesca Horrobin, Nieve Folkes and Tillie McGeehan represented the City of Liverpool Under 17s women's team that were crowned champions. In the semi-finals, they helped their side beat Worthing 9-8, and then went on to defeat West London Penguins 12-6 to claim the Edith and Tom Lythe Memorial Trophy for the first time since 2011. Tillie received the award for 'Most Valuable Player of the Tournament'. Fleur Morris, also representing City of Liverpool but at women's under 19s level, made an excellent contribution to both of their games, losing 15-10 to the eventual winners Bristol and then being pipped to the bronze medal, losing out 10-8 to Cheltenham. Oscar Pate took to the water with City of Manchester Under 17s, who clinched the silver medal after their exciting final game was decided on penalties. Will McGeehan featured for City of Manchester Under 19s Open, who won the gold medal by beating West London Penguins 12-10. This was Manchester's first gold in this event since 2015. Warrington Swimming and Water Polo Club coach Jon McGeehan also attended as team manager for the City of Liverpool Under 17s women and the City of Manchester Under 19s open sides. A club statement reads: 'Warrington Swimming and Water Polo Club are so proud of all the players that attended the finals weekend in Coventry, a fantastic opportunity, and bringing two gold and one silver trophies back to the north west. 'We are sure the town of Warrington are also very proud, well done.'

Freddie, 14, wins two gold medals at athletics championships

Teenage Cumbrian athlete Freddie Strong brought home TWO gold medals from the North of England Indoor Championships. The 14-year-old from Keswick starred at the event in Sheffield last weekend. Strong claimed victory in the under-15 high jump – and repeated the feat in the long jump. The Border Harrier also produced an impressive performance to claim bronze in the 60m hurdles. The multi-talented teenager produced personal best performances in each discipline at the Under-13 and Under-15 championships which were held at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield. Keswick School student Strong cleared a height of 1.80m to win the high jump. That put him ahead of nearest rival Joe Moss, from Amber Valley and Erewash Athletics Club, who cleared 1.70m. Strong also came close to clearing the championship record level of 1.88m. His best jump of 5.79m put him above Moss on the medal rostrum with the latter jumping 5.73m. And he then produced personal best times in the 60m hurdles to get on the podium. In the heat he came home in second in a time of 9.28sec. And in the final he shaved even more time off that as he finished third in 9.16secs, behind winner Charles Reilly from City of Sheffield and Dearne, and Jay Husain from Wirral. Promising all-rounder Strong attends Carlisle's Sheepmount twice a week and also trains in a number of other events including javelin and shot put. His coaches include John Little, Lenny Miller and Mel Brocklebank, and has more top competitions on the horizon, including the National Age Group Championships this weekend when he will again compete in the high jump, long jump and hurdles. March will then see Strong compete in the Age Group Combined Events Championships in the pentathlon – hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put and 800 metres.
