The 44 Percent: Want to start a business? Our Miami Gardens event can help
The 44 Percent newsletter is on hiatus this week as its writer, Raisa Habersham, is at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Cleveland. But if you're starting a business, or want to grow a small business you've already started, you should know about the Miami Herald's Black business panel next Tuesday, Aug. 12 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Co-Space, a Black-owned coworking space in Miami Gardens. You can buy tickets here. 'Building Black Businesses' is an event meant to equip small business owners and aspiring business owners in South Florida's Black community with actionable advice. The panel discussion, moderated by Herald minority business reporter Michael Butler, will address how entrepreneurs can fund, market and grow their businesses. The panelists are three South Florida business leaders with years of experience: Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce president and CEO G. Eric Knowles, marketing professional Suzan McDowell and Italian Vice founder Aamir Taylor. Wayne Dawson shares more about new talk show on FOX 8 CLE+, cancer fight
CLEVELAND (WJW) — Wayne Dawson is looking forward to his return to FOX 8 News in the Morning and the launch of his new streaming talk show, Wayne's World. You can watch the first episode Saturday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. exclusively on the FOX 8 CLE+ smart TV streaming app. Monday, he shared with fans what they can expect from the new 30-minute weekly show. Wayne Dawson launching new FOX 8 streaming show 'We're going to be talking about all kinds of things. Sports, entertainment, politics, current events, health, all that stuff,' Dawson said in a new video post. The longtime anchor has been off the air since the end of 2024 as he continues his fight with oral cancer. He's undergone surgery and rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. 'I continue to fight the fight, I'm getting better and better,' Dawson said, adding that his energy is returning but he still has hurdles to climb. Dawson also shared that he will get a scan this week that will show if he is cancer-free. 'I'm praying that comes back negative. Cancer gone,' he said. He will then have to wait for his mouth to completely heal so doctors can put his teeth back in and do some 'nips and tucks' on his jaw. Dawson, at the advice of other cancer survivors and warriors, said he is making sure to stay positive and focus on the good. 'In addition to prayer and all of that, I'm trying with all my heart to stay positive knowing that this too shall pass, and I understand that the lord brings trials and storms for two reasons. One, to correct us, and the other, to perfect us,' he said. Wayne Dawson named to NABJ Hall of Fame Dawson, recently named to the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Hall of Fame, again thanked fans across Northeast Ohio for their support. Wayne Dawson named to NABJ Hall of Fame
CLEVELAND (WJW) — Longtime FOX 8 anchor Wayne Dawson has been named to the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Hall of Fame, the organization announced Wednesday. Dawson is one of eight journalists nationwide selected for induction this year, a prestigious honor recognizing his decades of excellence in journalism and dedication to the community. $100K scratch-off winner sold at local grocery store The induction will take place during the NABJ Convention and Career Fair, set to be held in Cleveland this August.
