'Ayush beneficiaries up from 1.5cr in 2021 to over 11.5cr now'
New Delhi/Lonavala: Union minister Prataprao Jadhav on Thursday said the country has seen a remarkable improvement in the accessibility of Ayush healthcare services , with the number of beneficiaries rising from 1.5 crore in 2021 to more than 11.5 crore in 2025. After inaugurating the NAM Conclave in Lonavala, Jadhav, Union minister of state (independent charge) for Ayush and minister of state, health & family welfare ministry, said, "The ministry had organised a NAM Conclave in 2023, where several ministers and senior officials from various states and UTs shared valuable insights for the effective implementation of the NAM scheme. That dialogue resulted in the formulation of an action plan to improve the execution and outcomes of the National Ayush Mission. Establishment of 12,500 Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) has significantly enhanced healthcare availability, with the number of beneficiaries rising from 1.5 crore in 2021 to more than 11.5 crore in 2025. As a result, there has been a remarkable improvement in the accessibility of Ayush healthcare services, driven by improved infrastructure, availability of medicines, trained manpower, and strengthened educational institutions." Encouraged by the previous success, he added, "I am confident that this second edition of the National Ayush Mission Conclave will serve as a robust platform for both States/UTs and the central govt to jointly review the mission's progress, strengthen governance systems, promote innovation, streamline financial processes, and ensure rapid and effective implementation of programmes at the grassroots level. On this occasion, I extend my heartfelt best wishes for the success of the Conclave to the teams working tirelessly at both the state/UT and central levels." Highlighting the strides taken by various states and union territories in the Ayush sector, the conclave on Thursday set the stage for a future roadmap to consolidate and expand the outreach of services across the nation.

New Delhi, The 12,500 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the country have significantly enhanced healthcare availability with the number of beneficiaries rising from 1.5 crore in 2021 to more than 11.5 crore in 2025, Union Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav said on Thursday. As a result, there has been a remarkable improvement in the accessibility of Ayush healthcare services , driven by improved infrastructure, availability of medicines, trained staff, and strengthened educational institutions, he said after inaugurating the two-day National Ayush Mission (NAM) Conclave 2025. Reaffirming its commitment and highlighting the strides taken by various states and Union Territories in the Ayush sector, the conclave commenced at Kaivalyadhama in Maharashtra's Lonavala. The event sets the stage for a future roadmap to consolidate and expand the outreach of Ayush services across the nation, the statement said. Organised by the Ministry of Ayush, the conclave has brought together Ayush experts, policymakers, health professionals, researchers, and innovators. It aims to strengthen the integration of traditional Indian systems of medicine into mainstream healthcare, making wellness more accessible, affordable, and evidence-based for the common citizen, the statement said. Jadhav said the ministry had organised a NAM Conclave in 2023, where ministers and senior officials from various states and UTs shared valuable insights for the effective implementation of the scheme. There has been a rising demand for AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) products and services, with the sector registering an eightfold rise expanding from USD 2.85 billion in 2014 to an estimated USD 23 billion in 2024. 'This growth underscores the increasing global demand for traditional Indian wellness products,' Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, told The Indian Express in an exclusive interview ahead of the National Ayush Mission (NAM) conclave on May 1 and 2 at Kaivalyadham, Lonavala. To further enhance global access, the ministry is actively addressing export challenges and developing a supportive ecosystem for the international growth of Ayush products and services,' he said. Excerpts: What is the NAM conclave about on May 1 and 2? The Ministry of Ayush is organising the National Ayush Mission (NAM) conclave on May 1 and 2 at Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute, Lonavala, under the chairmanship of Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (IC) for Ayush. The conclave aims for highest level discussions to chalk out future strategy of NAM, which is a centrally sponsored scheme being implemented through state/UT governments for overall development and promotion of Ayush healthcare system in the country. What are the policy discussions about? The conclave will reflect on the achievements of the NAM, address emerging challenges, and chart a path toward a self-reliant and robust Ayush healthcare system. The conclave covers diverse themes, including financial management, monitoring and evaluation, HR strengthening, integration with modern medicine, and quality assurance. It also showcases best practices, IT innovations, regulatory mechanisms and investment and export opportunities with rich experience sharing from states and UTs. What strategy is being adopted to integrate ayurveda with modern medicine practice? Mainstreaming the potential of AYUSH within a pluralistic system of healthcare is being envisioned through the new initiatives of the Ministry of Ayush in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The need for integrating AYUSH in the National Health Mission, research and education and strategies to meet national health goals through protocol driven integrative practices are being visualised. To further strengthen the integration of AYUSH in national public health initiatives, the Ministry of Ayush and MoHFW have jointly established a dedicated AYUSH vertical under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). This significant step aims to ensure effective convergence of AYUSH within mainstream health programmes What is the demand for ayurvedic treatment/products abroad? The global demand for ayurvedic products and treatments is steadily rising, reflecting a growing international shift toward traditional and holistic health systems. India's AYUSH sector has seen substantial growth, with the domestic market reaching USD 43.4 billion and maintaining a CAGR of 17% between 2014 and 2020. Currently, AYUSH products are being exported to 150 countries across the globe. We are also strengthening collaborations with various countries for joint research and establishing evidence-based standards. The ministry is also working closely with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to develop the International Harmonised Protocols (IHP), which will set global quality and efficacy standards for AYUSH products. Additionally, through streamlined regulatory guidelines, quality assurance and expanded clinical research, the ministry is ensuring that AYUSH products and services meet international benchmarks, fostering wider acceptance and access worldwide.

Delhi govt to roll out series of initiatives to strengthen Ayush healthcare services: Health minister
New Delhi: In a move to expand the reach of traditional healthcare , Delhi government will soon deploy a mobile 'medical awareness van' to offer Ayush consultations and services in the slums and JJ clusters, Health Minister Pankaj Singh said on Tuesday. The move will bring holistic care to the doorsteps of the underserved, he said. Delhi government will roll out a series of ambitious initiatives to strengthen Ayush healthcare services in the national capital, including the launch of an integrated stress management programme and a state-of-the-art Ayush wellness centre , Singh said. "Delhi will become a model state for Ayush, offering holistic healing and effective treatment for lifestyle disorders , benefiting all citizens," Singh said. The stress management programme will integrate elements from yoga, Unani and homoeopathy to address rising cases of anxiety, depression, and other stress-related conditions, the health minister said. Chairing a review meeting with officials from the Directorate of Ayush and various ayurveda, Unani and homoeopathy institutions, Singh said Delhi aims to become a model state for Ayush-based healthcare, which offers holistic healing and effective treatment for lifestyle disorders. As part of the outreach efforts, a mobile medical awareness van will be deployed to provide Ayush consultations and services in the underserved areas, including slums and JJ clusters. "This will bring holistic healthcare to the doorsteps of people who might not otherwise have access to it," Singh said. The government also plans to implement the National Ayush Mission in Delhi to streamline and expand access to traditional medicine systems. Officials said the mission would promote preventive care and holistic healing by integrating Ayush services into the city's broader healthcare network. To boost Ayush education, the minister directed officials to begin revamping infrastructure at the Ayush colleges, particularly student hostels. He also urged the hospital staff to maintain hygienic conditions and adopt a compassionate approach in patient care. "A clean and compassionate environment is fundamental to healing," Singh said. The Ayush wellness centre to be set up in Delhi will offer comprehensive treatment and wellness services, furthering the government's aim to provide accessible and affordable traditional healthcare options, he added. The health minister also underlined the Delhi government's broader vision to create a healthier and more resilient city by blending traditional systems with modern public health infrastructure. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the capital is poised to become a leading hub for Ayush-based healthcare in the country, Singh said.

Delhi to become model state for Ayush, says health minister
New Delhi: Delhi govt is set to implement the National Ayush Mission (NAM) to enhance and streamline Ayush healthcare services across the city, aiming to turn it into a model Ayush state. At a review meeting on Tuesday, health minister Pankaj Kumar Singh outlined a detailed strategy for the Ayush sector while meeting senior officials from the Directorate of Ayush and Ayurvedic, Unani, and Homeopathy institutions. A new 'Integrated Stress Management Programme ' incorporating yoga, unani, and homoeopathy will be launched soon to tackle stress-related issues. This programme will offer people techniques to cope with stress, depression, and lifestyle-related ailments using Ayush principles. "These initiatives will empower individuals to lead healthier, more balanced lives, addressing both physical and mental well-being," said Singh. The govt plans to establish an advanced Ayush Wellness Centre in Delhi, offering extensive treatments, preventive care, and wellness services. "The Ayush Wellness Centre aims to bring holistic healing closer to the people," he said, adding, "Delhi will become an ideal model state for Ayush, offering holistic healing and effective treatment for lifestyle disorders, benefiting all citizens." Singh indicated that this mission will advance preventive care and comprehensive healing by integrating traditional healthcare systems into the existing healthcare framework. The health minister issued specific instructions to improve infrastructure in Ayush department colleges, particularly student hostels. Immediate action will commence to upgrade these facilities, ensuring suitable living and learning conditions for Ayush students. Singh also requested hospital staff to maintain hygiene and have a patient-friendly approach. Medical awareness vans will conduct public outreach programmes in slums and JJ Colonies to extend Ayush benefits. These mobile units will deliver Ayush healthcare services directly to residents with limited access.
