National Blue Economy Workshop in September 2025‎ – to further strategic sustainable development

‎The National Blue Economy Workshop will be held in September 2025‎. The revelation came during the visit last Monday (11 August) by the Tripoli based Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwej, to the headquarters of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). There, he held a meeting with the members of the Committee on the Blue Economy in Libya, in the presence of the Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Mohamed Saleh, and members of the Committee from the Ministry of Economy and Trade, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Marine Resources, the Ministry of Planning, the Libyan Association of Friends of Artisanal Fishing, the University of Tripoli, and the University of Omar Al-Mukhtar. ‎ ‎Blue Economy: a strategic step to diversification During the meeting, the Minister reviewed the most prominent objectives and directions of the Blue Economy Committee, which was established by the Minister of Economy and Trade Decree No. (119) of 2025. He stressed that the formation of this committee represents a strategic step towards developing national policies to invest marine and environmental resources in a sustainable manner, in a way that contributes to diversifying the national economy, creating job opportunities and supporting sustainable development.‎ ‎National Blue Economy Workshop: sustainable fishing, renewables, ecotourism They also discussed the preparations for holding the September 2025 National Blue Economy Workshop, which will address the axes of strategic planning and the exchange of international experiences in the fields of sustainable fishing, renewable energy, ecotourism, and maritime transport.‎ ‎UNDP to support Blue Economy programmes For his part, the Ministry reported that the Deputy Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Libya affirmed his full support for these initiatives, and his readiness to cooperate with the Ministry of Economy and Trade and the concerned authorities in the implementation of blue economy programmes, through the provision of technical expertise and capacity building. ‎ ‎Ambitions into practical policies and programmes At the end of the meeting, the Minister stressed the importance of continued coordination between the two sides to transform ambitions into practical policies and programmes that reflect Libya's maritime economic potential and serve the interests of the Libyan people in all its regions‎. .
