City cop, woman fire fighter bag gold & bronze at international sports competition in USA
NAVI MUMBAI: Police inspector Subhash Pujari (45) attached to Navi Mumbai police department's Dial 112 emergency police helpline number has earned accolades for the Maharashtra police by winning two gold medals in the body building competition at the World Police and Fire Games 2025 held at Birmingham, Alabama in USA. The competition is going on from June 26 till July 6. While, Shubhangi Ghule (27), a fire fighter from Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has won a bronze medal in the ultimate fire fighting challenge at the international sporting event at Alabama, USA. Inspector Pujari said, "I won a gold medal in the 172 cm height category in the body building competition and another gold medal in the men's physique competition. The achievement has been possible due to practicing for six hours every day for this competition under the guidance of Mr. Olympia Sunit Jadhav. There were participants from 76 countries. So far, I have won 6 medals in Mr. World Body Building Competition and 4 medals in Mr. Asia Competition. I have bagged 10 international medals and 5 medals in the National Competition." Young Fourways gymnast wins gold and district selection
Fourways gymnast Scarlett Belle Eilertsen (10) recently competed in the Women's Artistic Gymnastics competition held at Matsport Centurion on May 24–25, earning a gold medal in her level 1 division. This impressive feat highlights her skill and marks a significant milestone in her budding gymnastics career. More exciting news followed for the local athlete, when she was also awarded her Central Gauteng junior colours, securing a spot on the prestigious Central Gauteng district team. She will be officially presented with her colours at the upcoming district competition in mid-June. As you can imagine, Scarlett is beyond excited about her achievements. 'Receiving my gold medal and my colours means so much to me. It made me feel so happy and very proud of myself.' Less than six months ago, Scarlett was recognised as the Most Improved Gymnast at her end-of-year awards with Junxion Gymnastics. Now, she stands as a proud member of the district team, a testament to her relentless work ethic and passion for the sport. Scarlett credits her coaches, Brooklyn Miles, known as Coach Godzilla, and Nikki Stubbs, for their unwavering support and encouragement. 'Their continual reinforcement and belief in me make a big difference. They help me grow and love gymnastics even more.' Her role models include her coaches, whom she admires greatly. When asked about her future ambitions, she said: 'Maybe I'll get those dreams when I'm older, but I sometimes dream of doing three backflips at age 10.' Blind and visually impaired students participate in ‘Cane Quest'
MORGANTOWN, (WBOY) — WVU's Children's Vision Rehabilitation Program and the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Romney hosted a 'Cane Quest' on Friday, where impaired and blind students from throughout West Virginia came to practice moving through the world using a cane. The event was a continuation of competition from Thursday when students did a 'Braille Challenge'. Both were hosted at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Morgantown with this year's events being the first hosted outside of the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Romney. Jazzy's Hydrobikes to open permanent location, 'Jazzy's Sweet Spot' For both events, qualifying students will get to go to a National Competition sponsored by the Braille Institute in Los Angeles. Orientation and Mobility Specialist Bethanie Mateer helped organize the event and explained that the students practice navigating the world with their cane in their communities and homes, but once they become adults they are expected to be able to do it everywhere. Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind to host 28th annual Academic Bowl
TALLADEGA, Ala. (WIAT) — The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind will host the 28th annual Academic Bowl for the third time in history, the previous two years being 1998 and 2008. The event will take place from Feb. 27- March 2. It is sponsored by Gallaudet University, a private university in Washington, D.C. for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, through its Youth Programs Office. 16 total schools and programs from across the United States will attend the Academic Bowl. Here are the schools and programs that will be in attendance: Alabama School for the Deaf American School for the Deaf in Connecticut Atlanta Area School for the Deaf Florida School For the Deaf Jean Massieu School for the Deaf in Utah Lexington School for the Deaf in New York Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington, D.C. North Carolina School for the Deaf Ohio School for the Deaf St. Mary's School for the Deaf in New York Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf Birdville High School's Day School Program for the Deaf in Texas Plano Senior High School's Regional Day School Program for the Deaf in Texas Mountain Lakes High School's Program for the Deaf in New Jersey Pinellas County School District's Program for the Deaf in Florida Jefferson County Sheriff's Office recognizing county's first African American Deputy 96 guests in total will participate in the event. Each school and program will bring four students and two coaches. The following topics will be covered in the Academic Bowl: Mathematics Literature Science History Current events Sports Art Deaf culture The event will consist of three rounds: The team round, the individual round and the final round. Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Inaugurates Fourth INJAZ Bahrain Youth Festival
Manama: Her Highness Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairperson of INJAZ Bahrain, inaugurated the fourth edition of the INJAZ Bahrain Youth Festival at Marassi Galleria, attended by Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi, Minister of Youth Affairs, and more than 10,000 visitors. The festival featured a marketplace showcasing local products and services developed by young Bahraini entrepreneurs from various schools and universities. According to Bahrain News Agency, the festival, held on February 20-21, commenced with the Company Programme qualifiers, where participating student companies were assessed. On the second day, Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa formally launched the event alongside officials, including Minister of Youth Affairs Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi, Shaikha Hessa bint Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and INJAZ Bahrain Board Members. More than 800 students participated in the festival, showcasing 73 student-led companies, including 25 from universities and 48 from high schools. Supported by Tamkeen as a strategic partner and hosted by Marassi Galleria, the event underscored Bahrain's entrepreneurial spirit. A panel of judges assessed the student companies on the opening day, nominating the top teams for INJAZ Bahrain's National Competition in April. The judges included Buthaina Amin (Bapco Refining), Latifa Mutaywea (Brinc), Sara Adel (Tamkeen), and Yasser Abdulaziz for the secondary school category, while Eyad Ebrahim (National Bank of Bahrain), Faten Mattar (Mattar Jewellers), Manaf Al Muhandis (Al Salam Bank), and Safa Sharif (WSI Consulting) evaluated university teams. The first day featured a traditional Liwa performance, followed by student evaluations, an oud recital by Mansoor Faisal, and a performance by Abyooki and the Kushari band. The second day included a qanoon performance, stage activities, and concluded with a musical performance by the Mohammed Bin Faris Band. Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa described the festival as a celebration of youth creativity and entrepreneurship, reinforcing INJAZ Bahrain's 20-year commitment to empowering young minds. She expressed appreciation for Tamkeen's strategic partnership and Marassi Galleria's support in providing a platform for young entrepreneurs. Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi, Minister of Youth Affairs, commended INJAZ Bahrain for fostering youth innovation and entrepreneurship, aligning with Bahrain's vision to empower future leaders. She highlighted INJAZ Bahrain's efforts in equipping young people with essential skills and high-quality programmes that prepare them for active participation in national development. Since its establishment in 2005 as part of Junior Achievement Worldwide, INJAZ Bahrain has equipped young people with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in the global economy. Guided by its core values of youth potential, hands-on learning, integrity, and collaboration, the organisation, under the leadership of Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, has impacted more than 680,000 students over 18 years, supported by over 11,000 volunteers, 290 schools, and 15 universities.
