Rafizi no-show at PKR National Congress final day after defeat

JOHOR BARU: Defeated PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli was notably absent on the final day of the party's National Congress 2025, held this morning at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre. As of 10.17am, the Pandan member of Parliament and Economy Minister had yet to make an appearance, sparking widespread speculation among delegates who were eagerly awaiting his presence at the congress hall. Rafizi had been a central figure throughout the campaign, vocally using the platform of the "Reviving Reformist Ideals Amid Power Challenges" (Hiruk) tour to openly criticise the party's system and leadership, including his rivals contesting the election. He had also publicly declared his readiness to relinquish his Cabinet position should he fail to secure the deputy president post in the PKR party elections. The 2025 PKR National Congress saw significant changes in the party's top leadership lineup, including the defeat of several incumbents. The most attention-grabbing contest was for the deputy president position, where Nurul Izzah Anwar defeated the incumbent Rafizi Ramli. The official results for the Central Leadership Council (MPP) 2025-2028, including the deputy president post, were announced by Central Election Committee Chairperson Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa around 10.30pm last night, following the opening speech of the Congress by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Nurul Izzah, former Permatang Pauh MP, garnered 9,803 votes, defeating Rafizi, who secured 3,866 votes. When approached by the media after the announcement, Rafizi declined to comment further, simply stating, "It's okay, you should ask the (new) deputy president." He appeared displeased when asked if he accepted the result of losing to the 'Puteri Reformasi,' Nurul Izzah. This morning, the PKR National Congress 2024/2025 continued with the debate session on the President's policy speech. Earlier, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived at the congress venue at 8.40am accompanied by Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also the party's Advisory Council Chairperson. Nurul Izzah arrived at approximately 8.20am alongside other top party leaders.

AMK Delegates Push For Job Opportunities, Youth-focused Housing Solutions

JOHOR BAHRU, May 23 (Bernama) -- Employment opportunities and home ownership for youths were among key issues raised by delegates at PKR's Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) National Congress 2025 here today. Kota Melaka division AMK chief Alex Lee Yen Wei, when debating AMK Chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim's policy speech, stressed the importance of Malaysia strengthening its economic diplomacy to attract more investments in the technology and innovation sectors, thereby creating high-value employment opportunities for locals. He also emphasised the need for youth participation in negotiations, including at the international level, and called for the appointment of young, principled and outspoken diplomats to ensure that fresh perspectives are represented in policymaking processes.

Adam Adli unfazed by Rafizi's absence from AMK Congress

JOHOR BARU: PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim said he was unperturbed by the absence of certain invited guests at the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) National Congress 2025, adding that there were "no hard feelings" over the matter. He was equally clear that the absence of PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli from the Congress opening ceremony was not a cause for concern, and was quick to dismiss any suggestion of divisions within the party. Adam Adli said invitations were extended broadly, including to Barisan Nasional (BN) and other component parties. "BN did not attend, but Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was present. We invited everyone. "Rafizi was also invited. We were informed in advance that he would be unable to attend, so the ceremony proceeded with the secretary-general. There are no hard feelings whatsoever," he said. He made these remarks at a press conference following his keynote address at the AMK National Congress 2025 here today. The congress was attended by more than 2,000 delegates representing 206 branches, with AMK Deputy Chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim also present. When questioned about the possibility of internal divisions or splits within the party following the recent PKR elections, Adam Adli, who is also a deputy youth and sports minister, expressed confidence that this would not happen, drawing on lessons from past party elections. "Disunity only becomes an issue if there's no reconciliation effort after the elections. I've experienced the election period. It can get tense and intense. What's most important is how we come back together afterwards. "PKR elections are open, and that's why they appear heated. But I can assure you that everyone contesting is highly loyal to the party's cause. In fact, they're competing over who is more loyal," he said. In his keynote address, urged PKR members to cultivate a strong sense of 'assabiyah' (collective solidarity) to reinforce the party's internal political strength.

PKR to host 10,000 delegates at 2025 congress in JB

JOHOR BARU: Some 10,000 PKR delegates are expected to physically attend the party's National Congress 2025 here, following constitutional amendments that expanded voting rights to more grassroots leaders. PKR secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh said the congress, which runs for three days from May 22, will see a significant increase in in-person participation due to reforms passed on Dec 15 last year. "Every winning branch committee member – 18 from the main committee, 18 from the youth wing, and 10 from the women's wing – is now eligible to attend the congress in person," she said at a press conference here today. Delegates will vote for the party's central leadership through a hybrid system: nearly 10,000 will vote physically, while another 20,000 are expected to vote online. Balloting will take place on May 23, with youth wing voting at Berjaya Waterfront Hotel and the women's wing casting their ballots at the Danga Bay Convention Centre. The Youth and Women's Congress will be jointly officiated on May 22, while the PKR national congress will be launched the following night. The event was originally scheduled for Dec14 and 15, last year, at the Persada International Convention Centre here, but was postponed due to widespread flooding, particularly in Johor. Addressing concerns over internal factional disputes and allegations surrounding branch-level elections, Fuziah said the party had appointed an international audit firm to conduct a comprehensive review of the process. "The external auditors examined the system and internal controls. Their findings confirmed no manipulation, interference, or compromise. "In fact, our election process met international standards," she said. She added that the use of blockchain technology in the voting system had strengthened transparency. "This should put any lingering doubts to rest." Fuziah also said that the party's Jelajah Pra Kongres (pre congress tour) roadshows had generated strong momentum among state delegates ahead of the congress. "Our message is clear – unity is paramount, and we will not allow internal rifts to derail our mission," she said.
