Belarusian Ambassador Bids Egypt Farewell in Arabic:
Pasant Elzaitony
The Embassy of Belarus in Cairo hosted a celebration on the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Belarus, attended by Egypt's Minister of Culture, Dr. Ahmed Fouad Henni, alongside a distinguished group of foreign diplomats, led by Ambassador of the Russian Federation Georgiy Borisenko. The event also welcomed Dr. Ibrahim Kamel, President of the Egyptian-Russian Friendship Association; Ambassador Ezzat Saad, Director of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs; Dr. Saleh Hashem, former President of the Association of Arab Universities; a delegation from the Association of Graduates of Russian and Soviet Universities headed by Sherif Gad; Member of Parliament Dr. Dohaa Assi; and Dr. Mohamed Nasr El-Gabaly, former Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun at Luxor University.
The celebration coincided with the end of the term of Belarusian Ambassador Sergei Terentiev, who began his diplomatic mission to Egypt in 2019 as the resident Ambassador to Egypt and non-resident Ambassador to both Sudan and Oman. Although Terentiev speaks five languages, Arabic is not among them—yet he surprised attendees by delivering his farewell speech in Arabic for the very first time. He expressed deep pride in his time in Egypt, a period that witnessed a qualitative leap in Belarusian-Egyptian relations.
Ambassador Terentiev emphasized that Belarus and Egypt share aligned views on major international issues, rejecting double standards and any interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states. He affirmed the two countries' joint support for a multipolar world order free from the dominance of a single power. He also highlighted the close ties between the leaderships of the two nations, noting that Egypt remains a top destination for Belarusian tourists, with hundreds of thousands visiting Red Sea resorts and historical landmarks annually. Egyptian children also take part each year in the international camp hosted in Belarus, and the number of Egyptian students pursuing education in Belarus continues to grow steadily.
In his remarks, Minister Ahmed Fouad Henni praised the strong and friendly relations between the two countries and highlighted the productive meetings between the two presidents. He expressed hope for deeper cooperation to serve the mutual interests of both peoples.
It is worth noting that Ambassador Sergei Terentiev graduated from the Belarusian State Economic University in Minsk in 1995. He initially worked in the banking sector before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus later that year. He served at the Belarusian Embassy in Japan and held various posts, including Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department, and later, Head of the Asia, Australia, and Oceania Directorate. Since 2019, he has served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Egypt.
In conclusion, Terentiev stated that as he returns home, he does so with a heart full of love for the Egyptian people and countless fond memories of the land of Egypt.
