Libya Begins Preliminary Work on Ajdabiya International Stadium

Libya's National Development Authority has officially launched preliminary construction work on the Ajdabiya International Stadium, as part of the country's Libya 2030 strategic vision. In a statement, the Authority said the project is a key component of the national plan to enhance sports infrastructure, with support from the General Command. The stadium is envisioned as a comprehensive sports environment aimed at strengthening the youth and sports sector, discovering and nurturing local talent, and contributing to social development and community stability through sports. Officials emphasized that the initiative reflects the broader objective of using sports as a tool for societal growth, cohesion, and long-term stability in Libya. Libya has been in chaos since a NATO-backed uprising toppled longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The county has for years been split between rival administrations. Libya's economy, heavily reliant on oil, has suffered due to the ongoing conflict. The instability has led to fluctuations in oil production and prices, impacting the global oil market and Libya's economy. The conflict has led to a significant humanitarian crisis in Libya, with thousands of people killed, and many more displaced. Migrants and refugees using Libya as a transit point to Europe have also faced dire conditions. The planned elections for December 2021 were delayed due to disagreements over election laws and the eligibility of certain candidates. This delay has raised concerns about the feasibility of a peaceful political transition. Despite the ceasefire, security remains a significant concern with sporadic fighting and the presence of mercenaries and foreign fighters. The unification of the military and the removal of foreign forces are crucial challenges. Tags: AjdabiyaAjdabiya International Stadiumlibya

Libyan PM Osama Hammad Arrives in Belarus

Prime Minister of the Libyan Parliament-designate government, Osama Hammad, has paid an official visit to Belarus, accompanied by a senior delegation aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing previous agreements. The Libyan delegation included key figures such as General Secretary of the General Command, General Khairi Al-Tamimi, Deputy Head of Intelligence, Major General Suleiman Al-Abar, and ministers responsible for foreign affairs, interior, health, technical education, industry, agriculture, and communications. The Director of the National Development Authority also took part in the visit. Prime Minister Hammad and his delegation were received by Belarusian Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich and Chairman of the State Security Committee, General Ivan Tertel, alongside other senior officials from the Belarusian government. The visit follows a series of diplomatic exchanges aimed at implementing and expanding the agreements reached between the two countries in March. It also marks a step forward in activating the joint contact group, which is tasked with coordinating cooperation and ensuring the execution of bilateral accords. According to officials, discussions focused on deepening ties across sectors including industrial development, agriculture, health, education, and defence. Both sides emphasised the importance of mutual support and joint investment, particularly in infrastructure and technology, to benefit the long-term interests of both nations. The Libyan government described the visit as part of a broader diplomatic push to diversify international partnerships and reinforce Libya's presence in global economic and strategic spheres, especially through partnerships beyond the traditional Western allies. This high-level engagement reflects growing momentum in Libya's foreign policy under Hammad's leadership, aiming to strengthen state institutions and build international alliances during a period of political fragmentation.
