Eczema and Asthma: The Hidden Connection

Eczema and Asthma – two inflammatory conditions that often co-occur, are affecting millions worldwide. In a survey, it was found that around 25% of atopic dermatitis patients were also diagnosed with asthma at the same time. This led to an inquisitiveness among medical researchers to understand the hidden connection between these two. Eczema Eczema means 'Vicharchika' in Ayurveda. It results in itching, inflammation, and formation of scaly patches on the skin. This commonly manifests in childhood but can emerge in adulthood as well. According to the non-profit National Eczema Association (NEA), here are the current statistics of eczema: ● Worldwide, 10% to 20% are children survivors ● Around 2% to 10% are adults According to Ayurvedic theory, this condition is a result of imbalanced bodily energies (doshas), mainly Kapha and Pitta doshas. Under Ayurvedic treatment for atopic eczema, these energies are primarily managed to help address the root cause of eczema occurrence. Asthma 'Swasa Roga' – an Ayurvedic term for Asthma. It is marked by inflammation and the narrowing of the airways. As per the reports of the WHO (World Health Organization), the count of people with asthma has crawled up to around 260 million globally. The common signs of Swasa Roga that one has to survive are shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness, and coughing. In the initial stage, this disease is treatable. However, it can become chronic and incurable with time due to improper management or medical attention. But there is still hope. Ayurveda is one such avenue by which asthma patients receive relief from the painful exacerbations that they are forced to experience. The Connection Between Eczema And Asthma Atopic March This phenomenon of co-occurrence of eczema and asthma, is referred to as the 'atopic march'. The studies have proven that up to 80% of children with eczema may become the victim to allergies and asthma in the future. One of the top leading Ayurvedic doctors of India, Dr. Mukesh Sharda has shared, 'People who have severe or chronic eczema are significantly more likely to catch asthma'. A few factors can further increase the risk, such as family history, high immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels, and early sensitivity to allergens. Role Of Immune System People with both conditions often have mutations in their gene named FLG (filaggrin). This is a gene that maintains the skin's barrier. In case of a defective skin barrier, allergens are free to enter the body, triggering an immune response that will eventually lead to asthma. Plus, as shared above, people who are dealing with eczema and asthma often have higher levels of IgE antibodies. This makes them more reactive to allergens. For eg., dust mites, pollen, and pet dander. Hidden Facts & Recent Findings The emerging research continues to shed light on the eczema-asthma connection. ● In a 2023 study from Stanford University, they found that the patients with asthma or eczema have around a 58% higher risk of developing osteoarthritis (in approx. 10 years). Worst part? This risk is doubled for individuals with both conditions. ● 40% of children with eczema develop asthma by age 5. This highlights the importance of early and proper medical intervention for management. ● Air pollution and climate change have doubled the prevalence of both conditions in the past 50 years. ● Some eczema patients experience 'asthma attacks' due to skin inflammation, even though without any direct involvement of the lungs. The Ayurvedic Management Approach of Dr. Sharda Ayurveda Ayurveda offers a unique way of dealing with various health diseases, and being deeply connected to its roots, Dr. Sharda Ayurveda's team follows the same path. As eczema and asthma are 2 different health disorders, they both are managed in a significant manner. Ayurveda believes that the root cause of each skin disease lies somewhere within the body itself. Thus, the treatment is not just topical for symptomatic relief. Therefore, under Ayurvedic skin treatment, detoxification therapies are offered to cleanse the body. Plus, herbal remedies and nutritional adjustments in the Eczema diet are also prescribed as required. Whereas, managing respiratory conditions with Ayurvedic strategies may include breathing exercises and modifications in lifestyle and eating habits. However, each patient is offered a unique plan. It is completely personalized as per the body type of the patient and the severity of their disease. Sum Up Understanding the link between asthma and eczema aids in finding a proper cure for the condition. Ayurvedic medicine offers valuable management options that focus on healing and addressing the underlying imbalances, especially doshas and impurification.

Tower 28 Introduces New Medical Advisory Board Supporting Innovation For Sensitive Skin

Tower 28 is the only skincare and makeup brand to carry the seals of approval from the National ... More Eczema Association, National Psoriasis Foundation, and the National Rosacea Society. Eczema affects approximately 10% to 20% of children and 2% to 10% of adults worldwide. Over 31.6 million people in the U.S. alone suffer from some type of eczema. With the global beauty and skincare market expected to generate $677.19 billion this year, the only brand to proudly invest in research and development of eczema safe products, proudly carrying the seals of approval from the National Eczema Association, National Psoriasis Foundation, and the National Rosacea Society across its entire skin care line is Tower 28. Amidst its rapid growth, consumers have grown to trust the products and expertise of the brand. This has led Tower 28 to launch its new Medical Advisory Board as a pivotal step towards advancing care and innovation for sensitive skin. With this expert-driven initiative, Tower 28 continues to set the standard for beauty that supports the sensitive skin community. As the demand for effective and trustworthy products for sensitive skin grows, Tower 28 is bringing together an inspiring group of leading dermatologists and medical experts to help further the brand's foundational mission to create A Safe Space for Sensitive Skin. The Advisory Board will play a critical role in supporting these efforts in three key areas, leading science-based educational initiatives, ensuring the highest standards of care and innovation and guiding product development and testing. 'Since day one, we've been dedicated to making sure that people with sensitive skin can enjoy skincare and makeup that is not only safe and effective, but also backed by science. Our new advisory board brings together some of the top leading minds in sensitive skin science to help us continue to innovate and educate. It's truly an honor to be able to work so closely with Dr. Joyce and Dr. Killeen, and I can't wait to introduce them to our community,' shared Amy Liu, Founder and CEO of Tower 28. Founding members of Tower 28's Medical Advisory Board Dr. Kelly Killeen and Dr. Joyce Park. Founding members of Tower 28's Medical Advisory Board include Dr. Joyce Park, a Board-Certified Dermatologist based in Washington, and Dr. Kelly Killeen, a Double Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon based in Beverly Hills, California. With a deep focus on sensitive skin and evidence-based care, Dr. Park brings clinical expertise and a passion for public health education, sharpened through fellowships with the World Health Organization. Known for making dermatology approachable, inclusive, and grounded in science. Her work helps bridge the gap between expert advice and everyday skincare, making trusted education accessible to all. 'I'm so excited to officially join Tower 28's Medical Advisory Board because this is a brand I've genuinely loved for years—they're leaders in creating high quality skin-friendly makeup and skincare that's especially great for sensitive skin,' said Dr. Park. 'As a dermatologist who treats lots of sensitive skin and has sensitive skin myself, that really matters to me. Tower 28 goes a step beyond and actually does clinical testing on sensitive skin, to make sure that their products really are gentle enough for everyone to use.' As a plastic surgeon, Dr. Killeen, offers a deep understanding of skin anatomy, healing, and confidence—helping individuals think holistically about beauty, from barrier health to what makes someone truly glow. 'I've been involved with Tower 28 for a really long time. When Amy first launched this brand, I was watching because I was her friend. But then, I became excited because she was using hypochlorous acid. This is an ingredient that I had started using in my surgical practice. We use this in the operating room, we use it to treat wounds, and I know the power of this special ingredient,' she added. Amy Liu, Founder and CEO of Tower 28. Liu added that the Medical Advisory Board was formed to ensure that sensitive skin isn't just considered, it's the basis for everything Tower 28 creates. 'This group of top medical professionals guides us across three core areas: product development, education, and testing. Right now, they're helping us think through how to expand our SOS line in ways that address the evolving needs of sensitive skin, from identifying new formats that calm skin without disrupting the barrier, to evaluating new ingredients that target inflammation while still meeting our clean standards. They also partner with us to create accessible, science-backed education, shared across our social channels, website, and press, and help us proactively address misinformation around skincare trends. Their involvement ensures we're not just making safe products - we're pushing innovation forward for people with sensitive skin,' she further explained. On the heels of this announcement, Tower 28 launched their new SOS mineral sunscreen clinically proven to be non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic, won't burn eyes, and boasts three medical seals of approval. As chronic eczema sufferer, Liu often felt chemical sunscreens left her skin burning. The sunscreen has a whipped, creamy texture that feels like a lightweight moisturizer with no white cast or orange tint. Formulated with gentle non-nano zinc oxide, it provides broad-spectrum UVA + UVB protection and is even ophthalmologist-approved packed with skin-soothing ceramides, allantoin, and alpha bisabolol to keep skin calm and breakout-free. With this new Medical Advisory Board and continued innovation integrating skincare and makeup, Tower 28 is breaking barriers and giving those with sensitive skin science-backed, high performing options that won't irritate their skin conditions.

45 Personal Care Products Reviewers Call Magic

A Derma E scar gel reviewers love for its ability to sink into skin quickly *and* even how well it sits under makeup. And it can make a difference on both new and old scars. How does this work, you ask? The key ingredients are panthenol (which can help promote new skin cell production) and allantoin (which helps attract moisture to skin and can make wound-healing faster). A lightweight Cosrx SPF 50+ sunscreen (the same brand as the TikTok-viral snail mucin!) for anyone who isn't always the best at applying sunscreen (every! day!). This sebum-balancing formula has a moisturizer-like texture, contains skincare ingredients like cacao and vitamin E, feels breathable on the skin, leaves a semi-matte finish, and (reviewers agree!) it doesn't have a white cast, so applying it will feel like less of a chore. Vanicream, a sensitive skin-friendly moisturizer free of common irritants (and fragrance free!) reviewers love to use on their face *and* body. The included pump dispenser is great for easy application, and avoiding contamination the jar. Plus it has the seal of acceptance from the National Eczema Association! A butt acne-clearing lotion formulated with tea tree oil to fight pimple-causing bacteria, helping clear existing acne and helping to prevent it from coming back in the long run. Reviewers use it on their thighs and back too, and say this lotion helps their skin feel suuuper soft! Briotech spray with the same magical ingredient as the very beloved Tower 28 SOS Daily Rescue Spray: hypochlorous acid (something our body produces naturally as part of our immune system!). Just spritz it on whenever your skin needs a little de-stressing (like on a hot, sweaty day, while traveling, or after the gym), and it'll help soothe inflammation, tone down redness, and strengthen your skin's barrier. A bottle of Nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo formulated with 1% ketoconazole that doesn't just banish annoying flakes, but actually works to kill the fungus that causes dandruff. You can use it just twice a week, too. A bottle of professional-grade callus-removing gel that can dissolve that pesky, hard dead skin in just a few minutes — for real, don't leave it on for more than that. Then just rinse, sand with a pumice stone or rasp, and enjoy those silky-smooth feet! If you love Baby Foot but hate waiting, this is a great option. Medix retinol body lotion — if you've looked at your expensive facial retinol and thought "this is too expensive to slather on my I want to" this is for you! Just like any retinol product, this is designed to help promote skin cell turnover, which can help visibly smooth crepe-iness, fine lines, rough and bumpy skin (like KP), and stretch marks, if that's something you're looking to do. A piercing treatment to help tackle the bumps that are getting in the way of you showing off your excellent taste in jewelry! It takes time, but reviewers see a big difference when it comes to fading bumps and scars and helping fresh piercings heal properly. Mielle's (TikTok-famous) Rosemary Mint strengthening oil reviewers swear by to nourish their scalps, strengthening and promoting hair growth at the root. It's formulated with biotin, moisturizing oils like jojoba, plus rosemary and mint oils, which can help stimulate the scalp. AquaGuard, a pre-swim hair cream designed to protect your tresses from damaging chlorine (aka less dryness, fewer tangles, no turning green, and no icky chlorine smell!) — just dampen your hair, apply the cream, and dive in! Now you can play "mermaids" all you want without sacrificing your hair health. An exfoliating mitten so you can scrub off dead skin cells and reveal softer, smoother skin during your Everything Showers. Just lather up and (gently!) massage your skin — reviewers say this is great for preventing ingrown hairs, helping reduce KP, and using before applying fake tan! Or an exfoliating First Aid Beauty Bump eraser body scrub reviewers with KP (aka keratosis pilaris) swear by to get rid of those tiny red bumps, without slathering on any additional creams or products — just use in the shower instead of your regular soap. Gold Bond Friction Defense, an easy-to-apply stick (just like deodorant!) to reduce friction and moisturize skin wherever you deal with painful chafing when your skin rubs together, especially when the mercury rises. It's unscented and invisible too! L'Occitane's fast-absorbing shea butter hand cream, because if you have dry, cracked hands or just hate the feeling of papery hands post-washing when you're on the go, you need this lil' guy in your bag. And there's no overly greasy feeling after, either! A saline nasal mist that can help moisturize dry nasal passages and irrigate to wash away mucus and allergens, which can in turn help relieve symptoms from colds and allergies. When is pollen season going to end again?? A roll-on sunscreen sponge to help you do what you need to do this summer: reapply your sunscreen every two hours. But with this handy lil guy, you can just sponge it right on, and it'll keep your hands mess-free! Idk about you, but I hate that greasy, sunscreen-y feeling on my hands when I'm at the beach. And if you don't get those, or reapply as often as they suggest, a Burt's Bees sunburn soother so you have it on hand before you get sunburned. Even when we do our best, sometimes it happens! SweatBlock antiperspirant wipes, which are designed to reduce excess sweating for *up to seven days*(!!). Just swipe on before bed, and kiss those pit stains that ruin your favorite shirts goodbye. They're designed to be used for under the arms, but reviewers use them elsewhere too! A manual "flossing" toothbrush with extra soft bristles in two layers that are super thin at the tip (as thin as human hair) and designed to reach places other toothbrushes might not. Especially when paired with actual flossing, reviewers say they're left with a "fresh from the dentist" clean! O'Keeffe's Lip Repair, a lip sleeping mask from the brand behind the cult-favorite Working Hand and Healthy Feet creams — and just like those borderline miraculous products, reviewers say this balm will heal and repair dry, cracking, chapped lips like no other product has. Gold Bond's firming neck and chest cream — it's not only your face that deserves a skincare routine! This is formulated with salicylic acid for chemically exfoliating that delicate skin (without harsh scrubbing) plus glycerine and aloe for plenty of hydration. Reviewers are surprised at the results they get but note that it does take time. So don't forget to take a before photo, and get to slathering! Compound W One Step Pads designed to break down common and plantar warts with minimal effort, so you can enjoy the same gloriously dramatic results as the reviewers below. Just apply and replace the medicated, salicylic acid-infused bandages every 48 hours for best results. Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask you can wear overnight for a serious boost of hydration, firming, and brightening — even reducing the appearance of pores and fine lines. Reviewers say they noticed a difference in just one use *and* that people stopped to compliment their skin! Btw, once you wake up and see where the mask has become transparent, you'll know the serum is absorbed — how cool is that? CeraVe Retinol Serum that lives up to the CeraVe name and uses *encapsulated* retinol to reduce the appearance of scars and pores without flaking or redness. If you haven't gotten into retinoids yet or are worried about irritating your skin, this gentle but effective serum is a great option — and reviewers say they like it better than other more expensive options (like Murad's Retinol Serum, which retails for $92). Or prescription-strength (but not prescription-priced) Differin Retinoid gel, because it's a true classic for a reason. It is designed to promote and "normalize" skin cell turnover, which can help clear existing breakouts, combat inflammation, and prevent the actual production of acne in the future. And since retinol increases collagen, it can help with fine lines and wrinkles as well! Cosrx's snail mucin repairing essence that may seem like it would give you the ick, but is totally worth adding to your routine. No snail-like results here: Just pat it in the evening, and you'll be appreciating the moisture boost right away. Reviewers say it helps with acne, inflammation, peeling, fine lines, and even eczema! Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, a cult-favorite body cream you're going to want to slather all over your body, thanks to the deep hydration (cupuaçu butter, coconut oil, and açai oil!) and temporary skin-tightening (caffeine!) it provides, plus a fragrance with notes of salted caramel and vanilla that reviewers L O V E. My all-time desert island holy grail, CeraVe's Skin Renewing night cream, which delivers on hydration and softness and protects your skin's natural barrier — I won't use an expensive night cream again. There's a reason people can't stop talking about CeraVe on TikTok! A pair of metatarsal pads to add some extra cushion to your high heels before that big event you have coming up. They're the thickness of four stacked credit cards to provide comfort for the balls of your feet without changing the fit of your shoe, have adhesive backing so they won't slip and slide while you're on the dance floor, and even can absorb sweat. Mighty Patch Pimple Patches, which absorb pus and oil from *inside* the zit, protecting skin from further damage and reinfection so you're not tempted to hot compress, pop, ooze, scar, and repeat. They also come in an ~invisible~ version that (as someone who has used them) is indeed surprisingly hard to see. And hydrocolloid nose patches (from the same brand) that target your whole nose all at once, absorbing gunk and oil from multiple pimples and pores all at once and trapping it so you can toss it right in the trash. Say goodbye to those damaging adhesive nose strips once and for all! Veet's sensitive hair removal gel cream, a great option if you prefer to say "so long" to body don't love other methods like shaving or waxing. If you're easily irritated or are prone to ingrowns, this might be the perfect option for you! Several reviewers tout the "dolphin-smooth" results. ::cue echolocation noises of glee:: An ergonomically designed detangling brush with cone-shaped bristles that separate tangles by pulling them apart sideways, not tugging them down. Reviewers say it's a miracle worker for everything from thick, coily hair to the finest strands! A satin pillowcase to help maintain hair and skin health even as you sleep, reducing pesky frizz and breakage when compared with regular cotton or other fiber pillowcases — that means longer-lasting blowouts and less damage in the long run. Why spend the money on pricey brands like Slip and Blissy? Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré, a fan-favorite French moisturizer that you could stock up on during your next trip to just order straight from Amazon. (It's a verified seller!) Reviewers and makeup artists alike swear by this for a super-hydrating base under cosmetics (and bonus: it smells really good too). A nongreasy eye cream designed to help deflate your under eye bags, hydrate your delicate skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and brighten your under eyes, thanks to a blend of aloe, rosehip seed oil, and vitamins C & E. A bottle of Elizavecca Hair Treatment for an intense at-home mask that'll help your strands look and feel less damaged in just five minutes. It's basically a time machine for your hair, is what I'm saying. Some reviewers say it's even BETTER than Olaplex, which is over three times the price! TruSkin vitamin C serum formulated with hyaluronic acid (to provide a boost of hydration), soothing aloe vera, and vitamin E (in addition to the namesake vitamin C) — a combo designed to brighten and smooth your skin for your glowiest glow yet. And money-saving alert: reviewers say it's comparable to the SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic serum (which costs $182 for the full-size btw!). Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil, a K-beauty cult-fave you can use as step one of your double cleanse. Just apply to dry skin and gently massage, then emulsify with water to dissolve makeup and sunscreen and remove sebum and the day's grime, leaving your skin refreshed but not stripped. Reviewers *swear* by it for helping reduce blackheads and sebaceous filaments, too! Or! For a balm option, Juno & Co.'s Clean 10 cleansing balm formulated with Japanese pearl barley to help brighten skin as it cleanses. Just scoop out a pea-sized amount (it comes with a lil' spatula!) and massage into your skin — it'll become a luxurious oil and gently dissolve allllll the makeup, SPF, dirt, oil, and more, leaving no residue behind *and* not overly stripping skin of moisture. A bottle of CND SolarOil, a nail and cuticle oil to help your nails grow and grow (no peeling!), and keep your cuticles nourished and soft, no matter how much hand sanitizer you're using. Just massage in the jojoba oil and vitamin E infused formula daily. Radha rosehip oil to not only soften skin and lock in moisture (just like other oils), but also help reduce redness and breakouts, thanks to the rich blend of vitamins A, C, and E, fatty acids and anti-inflammatory antioxidants. SoCozy curl conditioning spray, which was designed with kiddos' curls in mind, but works for reviewers of all ages! This leave-in conditioner moisturizes and helps improve curl definition and elasticity with just a few quick spritzes, which is great for impatient kids *and* grownups with limited time. A bottle of Tend Skin Solution to stop ingrown hairs and skin irritation in their tracks, making it the perfect post-shaving product with a cult following for a reason.

I insert them about an hour before landing as the plane is making its slow descent. I'm comfortable, and the most discomfort I experience is a slight adjustment of pressure in my sinus. NO PAIN. NO TEARS." — K. Tombrella Get three pairs from Amazon for $19.49 (also available in packs of 5 and 10). 5. Made from carbon steel, this durable shovel is also corrosion-resistant. Promising review:"Last weekend I finally got to put it to the test when I hit a soft spot at the lake with the truck and trailer. We disconnected the trailer and camped right where we got stuck. During the stay, I found some cinder blocks laying on the lake bed and used the shovel to dig and to fill in the damage and reinforce the ground. It really saved the day, and I was able to get the trailer out. It is extremely well-built and heavy gauge. I was really impressed." — MSS Get it from Amazon for $26.90 (also available in two other styles). 6. It saved us so much stress and, I'm sure, surprise charges at the airport." — Potter Freak "This scale works and was accurate on four flights. First flight was a test at 46 pounds, and Delta scales said it was 46 pounds. The next two flights were at 49 pounds, and both United and Delta found it to be 49 pounds. The bag on the fourth flight weighed 49, but the United scale found it to be 48 pounds. Low-top Blowfish sneakers because they don't have shoelaces, which means you can easily kick these babies off when you're about to go through airport security and then easily put them back on once you're done. Promising review:"Hands-down best sneakers (especially for travel). I purchased these prior to our family beach trip. I found out I was pregnant and needed some type of support when walking around on vacation rather than flat flip-flops. I read the reviews for these shoes and they were raving. I see why!! These could sell for more money but are reasonably priced. Great quality. There are no laces to tie — elastic bands. I really love these with or without socks. They are roomy but not too big width-wise. This is not a very narrow shoe. I would recommend this shoe for anyone traveling as the go-to shoe. They're easy to get on and get off. Super stylish. I typically put my carry-on backpack under the seat in front of me and rest my feet on it, but on my most recent flight, I purchased this hammock to try. It made a huge difference to have my feet suspended, even if it was an inch or two above my backpack (on one leg of the flight, I stowed my backpack elsewhere and had nothing under the seat in front of me apart from the hammock, and that was even better). Fast-forward to this week. I was contacted via FB by an Alachua County sheriff's office diver and guess what he found? Yup, my phone case with all of the contents intact and dry as a bone!
