Victim's wife says daughter cries in her sleep following FRU truck tragedy

IPOH: The wife of Sergeant Mohd Roslan Abd Rahim, one of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel killed in an accident on May 13, said their six-year-old daughter cries in her sleep every night following the tragedy. Nur Aini Samiun, 44, said their children, Muhd Raqin Najmi, 13, Muhd Rizqi Nazhan, 9, and Nur Aqeela Rawida, had a close relationship with their father. 'I would take care of the children while my late husband handled the finances. Now that he's gone, I have to take on all those responsibilities,' she said when met at her home in Taman Kinding Raya, Tanjung Rambutan, during Ziarah Kasih, the National Higher Education Fund Corporation's (PTPTN) outreach programme, today. Nur Aini said Mohd Roslan was well-liked and did not hesitate to take leave from work to care for his ailing parents until both of them passed away. Earlier, PTPTN chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim said the three children are eligible to receive benefits totalling RM193,000 through the National Education Savings Scheme (Simpan SSPN), contributed under the Simpan SSPN Prime and Simpan SSPN Plus products. Nur Aini said her husband was always mindful of the future, diligently setting aside savings for their children. '...we don't have a high income or many assets, and I am unemployed, savings like this (SSPN) can help support us in the future,' she added. In the 8.50 am accident, the FRU truck collided with a stone-laden lorry along Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam, also injuring nine personnel.

66 police personnel honoured for excellence

KUALA LUMPUR: Only police personnel with MyPerformance scores of 90 per cent and above were considered for the Excellent Service Awards this year. A total of 66 individuals, including rank-and-file personnel and police officers, were awarded for their exceptional service with the police force. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the evaluation included attendance records, frequency of medical leave and involvement in activities outside of official duties. He expressed confidence that the set criteria would help personnel continuously boost their efforts to be more proactive and competitive. "This is to provide quality service that meets the expectations of the nation and the public. "To achieve what we desire, we must have efforts and determination," he said at Bukit Aman today. He said competent, excellent and dedicated personnel are the main strength of the force. Razarudin said this spirit should continue to be instilled among members, in line with the goal of enhancing service delivery quality and fostering a high-performance, innovative work culture. "In total, 10,534 officers and personnel received the recognition this year, based on a quota of eight per cent of the total active officers. "This includes 1,086 senior police officers, 8,486 lower-ranking police officers and 962 public service officers from various levels, including Bukit Aman, state contingents, brigades and training institutions," he said. Present were Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and Bukit Aman Management Department director Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid, who is also chairman of the event's Organizing Committee. Razarudin expressed appreciation to the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) for sponsoring additional prizes for recipients in the form of National Education Savings Scheme certificates worth RM1,000 each. The shariah-compliant savings scheme is seen as an early education savings instrument for children, offering tax relief of up to RM8,000 and free takaful protection for savings of RM1,000 or more. "Recipients from families with a monthly household income not exceeding RM4,000 are also eligible to receive a Geran Sepadan of up to RM10,000 per family if they enrol in higher education institutions," he said. Razarudin acknowledged PTPTN's contribution of more than RM67,000 to the police force's welfare fund and the commitment of the organisers and working committee, who have made the award ceremony a success since 2019.
