104 players compete in WCGC Malaysia qualifier at Seri Selangor Golf Club
PETALING JAYA: A total of 104 golfers representing 52 corporate teams teed off in the first qualifying round of the World Corporate Golf Challenge (WCGC) Malaysia at the prestigious Seri Selangor Golf Club (SSGC) recently. Presented by ENOTECH, the WCGC Malaysia aims to strengthen corporate ties and promote business networking through the sport of golf, offering participants a unique and exhilarating experience on championship-level courses such as SSGC. The tournament, played in the Two Ball Best Ball Stableford format, saw fierce competition with the top five teams clinching early spots in the National Final scheduled for September 25 at Kota Permai Golf & Country Club. Emerging victorious was the Megar Jaya 1 team of Syah Rizal Basri (handicap 7) and Mohd Rizal Mohd Sahibek (handicap 3), who secured first place on countback with a combined Stableford score of 45 points. Close behind in second was Event Pro Venture's pairing of Hafizi Zainal (handicap 11) and Abdul Malik Hasim (handicap 9). NA Sales & Services, represented by Nor Azhar Mohamad Noor (handicap 8) and Mohd Izzad Ibrahim (handicap 3), finished third with 44 points, also via countback. The Mega Bina Trading duo of Draman (handicap 5) and Khairun (handicap 14) claimed fourth, while the final qualifying spot went to InfraSel Sdn Bhd's Roslan Piei and Megat Shariffudin Shaharuddin (both handicap 5), who recorded 43 points. The tournament is supported by the Youth and Sports Ministry, Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) and the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS). The next qualifying round is scheduled to take place at Tropicana Golf & Country Club on June 24.

UAE stars tee up for glory in Korea after thrilling Dugasta final showdown
The journey that began months ago across the UAE's premier golf courses throughout the Emirates, reached its thrilling conclusion last weekend as the Dugasta Race to Korea National Final unfolded at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa. The stakes were high, the competition fierce, and the prize — a chance to represent the UAE at the prestigious World Amateur Golfers Championship in Jeju Island, South Korea in October-November this year. After 18 fiercely contested qualifying rounds over 1,000 hopefuls were whittled down to an elite field for the grand finale. The National Final brought together the very best amateur golfers in the country, divided into five handicap categories — each player hoping to seal their place on the international stage. In Division 1 (0–5.4 handicap), Dhruv Nair of Dubai Creek Golf Club delivered a composed round of net 71, finishing atop the leaderboard. Neil Maidment from Sharjah produced the day's best score — a superb net 66 — to win Division 2 (5.5–10.4 handicap). Irfan Izhar matched Nair's total with a net 71 to secure Division 3 (10.5–15.4 handicap), while Neil Mitchell of The Els Club matched the same score to triumph in Division 4 (15.5–20.4 handicap). Rounding off the winners, Ivan Kraemer from Emirates Golf Club posted a steady net 75 to take top honours in Division 5 (20.5–25.4 handicap). These five golfers — each a reflection of skill and determination — have now earned the honour of representing the UAE at the World Amateur Golfers Championship in Jeju Island where they will compete against players from over 40 countries. Organised by Sport2Business Events, the Dugasta Race to Korea series has not only showcased the rising standard of golf in the UAE but also brought the community together in a spirit of camaraderie and competition. The season long tournament is sanctioned by the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF). Russell Yeomans, promoter of the 2025 Race to Korea, commented, "This event at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa, is the culmination of our 2025 season. Congratulations to the five Divisional champions for their scores. "It has been a long season for all, but we feel the participation levels have been so much higher this season, especially at the end of the calendar. Thanks to all the golf clubs, and the Emirates Golf Federation for everyone's support. "We are especially happy with the scoring levels. Looking at the overall final results it seems that we gave everyone the chance to participate and qualify – that is the difficult part of organizing a countrywide event involving so many players of varying handicap levels' 'We are proud of the UAE team we have assembled," Yeomans added. "Attention now focuses to Jeju Island, for the World Final. We are all looking forward to what will be a very special week." 'As part of the Sport2Business portfolio, we have attended previous World Finals at various venues.' Around 47 countries will be competing this year – it really is a Bucket-List event,' concluded Yeomans. From Abu Dhabi to Ajman, the series inspired newcomers and seasoned players alike — proving that golf's grassroots in the UAE are alive, thriving, and gaining global momentum. As the UAE's five champions prepare for their South Korean adventure on an all-expenses paid 7-day golfing extravaganza, the spotlight now shifts to Jeju Island, where dreams of global glory await — and the next chapter in their golfing journeys begins. A champion school was crowned as Aberdeen's Glee Challenge regional final took place at the Music Hall last night. The winners from the previous rounds came together for one final performance to decide who would be crowned the city's best.. There have been some fantastic performances from all of the schools involved across the heats. But after a hotly-contested competition, those primary schools taking part in the final were Skene, Ashley Road, Fernielea, Elrick, and Seafield. The big winner, after a night of 'Scottish contemporary pop and rock' ended up being the youngsters of Fernielea. They will now go forward for the National Final, which will take place on June 22 at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh. The competition is organised by the Frisson Foundation, which works to encourage primary school kids to get involved with music and the arts. Top corporate golfers set for WCGC Malaysia battles
A thrilling showdown among Malaysia's top corporate golfers is set to unfold as they vie for the honour of flying the Jalur Gemilang at the World Corporate Golf Challenge (WCGC) World Final in Shanghai from Oct 19 to 23. The WCGC Malaysia will serve as the national qualifier, comprising five legs at some of Klang Valley's most prestigious golf courses, running from May to September. The campaign tees off at Seri Selangor Golf Club on May 22, followed by stops at Tropicana Golf and Country Resort (June 24), Glenmarie Golf and Country Club (July 22), Templer Park Country Club (Aug 21), and concludes with the National Final at Kota Permai Golf and Country Club on Sept 25. The tournament format features two-player teams representing their companies in each leg, with the overall champions of the National Final earning the coveted spot to represent Malaysia at the WCGC World Final. Last year's Malaysian representatives, Robert Lee and Anushka Gayan of Leonian Malaysia, did the nation proud by finishing a commendable third at the World Final in Haikou, China. The WCGC, renowned as one of the world's leading corporate golf tournaments, is held across 25 countries globally. Adding prestige to the local event, Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who serves as royal patron of WCGC Malaysia, graced the official media launch held at Glenmarie Golf and Country Club on Wednesday.

Back-nine blitz propels Mitchell to Division 1 victory in Race to Korea's UAE Qualifier
Damian Mitchell (HCP 5) delivered a standout performance at the Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa, firing a net 68 to claim the Division 1 title in the latest qualifying round of the Race to Korea presented by Dugasta. Mitchell's round included a gross score of 73, highlighted by birdies on holes 10, 15, and 18. His back nine was especially impressive, carding just 33 strokes after a front nine of 40. Joining Mitchell in the winner's circle were Barry Dwyer, Damien Flood, Daniel Marshall, and Ashley Jung — each securing victory in their respective divisions and booking their place in the UAE National Final. This event marked the ninth leg of the 17-round Race to Korea series, which spans the UAE's premier golf venues. The series offers amateur golfers the opportunity to progress to the UAE National Final, scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025, once again at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa. Divisional winners from the National Final will go on to represent the UAE at the World Amateur Golfers Championship (WAGC) World Final, taking place in Jeju Island, South Korea from October 31st to November 8th, 2025. Russell Yeomans of Sport2Business, the tournament's promoter, encouraged more players to join the competition: Presentation, 'We still have eight Qualifying Rounds left in this year's Race to Korea Series. We encourage all golfers holding an Official Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) Handicap to participate in these events, with a 'Once in a Lifetime, Bucket List prize.' "Entries for the remaining rounds are being accepted on a first come first served basis. The maximum handicap allowed is 25 and is open to all golfers, both males and females over the age of 18." The series is open to male and female golfers aged 18 and above, with a maximum handicap of 25. Entry is on a first-come, first-served basis.
