25% increase in per capita grants for Malaysian states from 2026

KOTA BHARU: The federal government has approved a 25 per cent increase in per capita grants for all states, amounting to an additional RM548 million starting in 2026. The announcement was made during the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly session today. Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud confirmed the decision, stating that the adjustment was agreed upon during last year's meeting of Menteris Besar and Chief Ministers. 'On behalf of Kelantan, I proposed a review of the per capita grant due to rising costs, and the motion received support from other state leaders and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,' he said. The revised rates will see allocations rise to RM102 per person for the first 100,000 residents, up from RM72 previously. Subsequent tiers include RM14 for the next 500,000 (from RM10.20), RM13.50 for another 500,000 (from RM10.40), and RM13 for remaining individuals (from RM11.40). Mohd Nassuruddin also disclosed that Kelantan received RM291.06 million in per capita grants between 2015 and 2025. Annual figures showed a steady increase, from RM24.75 million in 2015 to RM28.9 million in 2025. The adjustment aims to address financial pressures faced by states amid rising living costs. The National Finance Council's approval ensures all states will benefit from the revised allocations. - Bernama

Kelantan government welcomes 25pct increase in Per Capita Grant allocation from Fed govt

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan government has expressed its appreciation following the Federal Government's decision to increase the Per Capita Grant allocation to the state by 25 per cent starting next year. Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud said the increase was approved during the 2025 National Finance Council meeting, following Kelantan's repeated proposals for a review of the current formula, which has remained unchanged since 2002. "The state government has consistently raised this issue during the Menteri Besar and Chief Ministers' meetings, pushing for a revision based on current costs, inflation, and fairer distribution among states. "The new rate will bring the total annual allocation to RM548 million for all states starting in 2026," he added. The Meranti assemblyman was replying to Wan Rohimi Wan Daud (Pas-Melor) at the state assembly sitting here today. He said according to statistics, Kelantan has received steadily increasing allocations under the per capita grant from 2016 to 2025. In 2016, he added, the amount stood at RM25.05 million, rising to RM27.96 million in 2024, and RM14.19 million up to June this year. Currently, Nassuruddin said the per capita grant rates are RM72 per person for the first 100,000 population, RM10.20 per person for the next 500,000, and RM10.80 per person for the subsequent 500,000. "The remainder will be RM11.40 per person," he said. Mohd Nassuruddin said the state remains hopeful that future reviews would continue to address existing imbalances and ensure equitable development for the people of Kelantan.
