Mathews Elementary students learn how to be kind to animals at a young age
VIENNA TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – Mathews Elementary School students are learning about being kind to animals.
The school partnered with the National Humane Education Society to bring its free Kindness in the Classroom program to Vienna during Random Acts of Kindness Week.
Megan Hessenberger is a humane education and advocacy coordinator with the organization. She brought her ambassador dog, Vader, with her to talk to students about ways they can be kind, responsible and safe to create a more humane world for animals.
'Doing our program at such a young age, we know that kids are very kind in nature and they have that compassion for animals. So we just want to show them how they can, in their own lives, be kind, responsible and safe, and create a better world,' Hessenberger said.
Mathews students also held a treat drive to support animal welfare efforts.
