Kochi-Palakkad industrial corridor: Kerala govt grants funds for land acquisition

Kochi: The govt granted sanction for Rs 70 crore to Kinfra for land acquisition for the Kochi-Palakkad Hi-tech Industrial Corridor project, which is part of Kochi-Bangalore Industrial Corridor (KBIC). The fund will be used for the repayment of the loan funded by Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). Earlier, Kinfra requested the govt to release Rs 200 crore for the 2025-26 financial year for this purpose. The govt accorded comprehensive administrative sanction for the hi-tech corridor project at Rs 2,608 crore towards the total cost required for the payment of the loan funded by KIIFB for land acquisition. The order granting sanction of Rs 70 crore states that the latest fund is being released based on certain conditions. KBIC will cover 2,060 acres in the state, with two nodes: Industrial Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Palakkad and Global City (formerly Gift City) in Ayyampuzha, Ernakulam. The cabinet committee on economic affairs, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, approved the development of 12 new industrial corridors, including Palakkad IMC, under National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) last year. The proposed Global City, planned to be developed on 350 acres in Ayyampuzha, is awaiting central approval.

Nod to Centre's debt, equity share in ₹2,360 crore Zaheerabad Industrial Area project

The Zaheerabad Industrial Area (ZIA) is to be developed as a priority node under the Hyderabad-Nagpur Industrial Corridor (HNIC) at a cost of ₹2,360 crore. The government has approved Centre's contribution, through National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT), consisting of ₹596 crore as equity and ₹655 crore towards debt, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said, replying to a question from Member of Parliament Kadiyam Kavya. The project, under the HNIC node located in Sangareddy district, has an activation area of 3,245 acres. A special purpose vehicle, NICDIT Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City, has been incorporated for the project and tendering works for selection of Project Management for New Cities (PMNC) has started, he said. Responding to queries of Dr. Kavya on the Hyderabad-Nagpur and Hyderabad-Warangal industrial corridors, the Union Minister said that in August 2024, the Centre had approved Telangana government's proposal for development of Zaheerabad node as part of HNIC under National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP). As part of the Hyderabad-Warangal Industrial Corridor (HWIC), Hyderabad Pharma City was initially identified for development. As the State government failed to confirm the project, NICDIT Board of Trustees on June 8, 2022, decided to drop the project. Mr. Prasada said that based on the proposal of the State government, the Centre had granted final approval to the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) in Sangareddy (formerly Medak) district on January 22, 2016, and Hyderabad Pharma City NIMZ in Rangareddy district on December 10, 2019.

Develop rail infra for Andhra Pradesh industrial nodes: Minister TG Bharath

KURNOOL: Minister for Industries, Commerce and Food Processing TG Bharath urged the Union Railway Ministry to expedite railway infrastructure development to boost industrial growth under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme. During a meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Tuesday, Minister Bharath submitted a formal proposal seeking railway support for the Orvakal node under the Hyderabad–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor and the Krishnapatnam node under the Chennai–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor. The proposal includes a new chord railway line from Dupadu railway station via Orvakal to Bethamcherla and a 53-km railway siding to connect the Orvakal Industrial Node. It also requests a 12-km railway siding from the Obulavaripalle–Krishnapatnam section to the Krishnapatnam Industrial Node. 'Rail connectivity is vital for industrial growth and a key driver of the State's economic development,' said the Minister. He said the proposed nodes could generate over four lakh direct and indirect jobs and attract investments worth Rs 55,000 crore, including foreign direct investment. Bharath said the State government, with Central support, is actively developing three industrial nodes as Orvakal under the Hyderabad–Bengaluru Corridor, Krishnapatnam under the Chennai–Bengaluru Corridor, and Kopparthy under the Vizag–Chennai Corridor. He said the proposals were presented at the Network Planning Group's 73rd meeting and in DPIIT discussions, where officials highlighted the need for robust rail links to support industrial ecosystems.
