SEWA to remove high-voltage overhead lines

Project objectives and progress The project is part of the authority's plan to modernise electrical networks and facilitate the delivery of the Union Railway project. It reflects ongoing efforts to improve energy distribution efficiency while ensuring high levels of environmental and urban safety. The underground cables have been successfully operationalised, and the overhead lines have been isolated. The overall progress in removing high-voltage towers stands at about 50%, with 17 out of 37 towers dismantled and 20 still in the dismantling process. Commitment to quality and safety Saeed Al Suwaidi, Chairman of Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority, emphasised that this project is vital for providing a safe and sustainable environment that supports developmental projects in the emirate, especially with urban expansion and major national projects like the Union Railway. He added that the authority is committed to executing the work with the highest standards of quality and safety, adhering to specified timelines, reflecting its developmental and national responsibilities. Key areas of implementation The project encompasses several key areas, including the Al-Warehouse Land, where the completion rate has reached 92%, with work expected to finish by the end of May 2025. Additionally, work is planned for the Hill City area, Mleiha Street, and Emirates Road, with completion targeted for June 2025. Execution phases The implementation phases involve dismantling overhead wires, followed by the removal of towers and their foundations, with work expected to continue until mid-June 2025. This project significantly enhances the readiness of Sharjah's electrical infrastructure and prepares vital sites for future strategic projects, notably the National Railways project.
