Are you still using traditional sunscreens? Discover why full light technology is a game changer!

On National Sunscreen Day, experts urge Indians to upgrade sun protection. Dr. Aparna Santhanam highlights Full Light Technology, shielding against UVA, UVB rays, infrared radiation, and blue light from screens. This innovation combats premature aging and pigmentation, crucial in India's intense sun. As we mark National Sunscreen Day, it's time to rethink how we protect our skin in an age where sun exposure and screen time go hand in hand. Traditional sunscreens have long focused on shielding skin from UVA and UVB rays, but research now shows that visible light and infrared radiation also contribute significantly to premature aging, pigmentation, and changes in skin texture. Enter Full Light Technology: a next-gen innovation that broadens protection to cover the entire light spectrum. Dermatologist and Skin expert Dr. Aparna Santhanam explains, 'Full spectrum exposure can lead to long-term skin damage, and Full Light Technology offers an essential safeguard against these effects.' Unlike conventional sunscreens, this technology shields skin not just from UV rays, but also from infrared radiation and visible light, including blue light emitted by digital devices. 'Think of it as an upgrade to your sun protection,' says Dr. Santhanam. 'It's not just about sunburn anymore. It's about preserving radiance, firmness, and skin tone over time.' Sunscreens with Full Light Technology combine high-performance protection with added skincare benefits, making them indispensable for maintaining healthy, youthful-looking skin. Further enhancing this evolution is the role of Artificial Intelligence. AI-powered skincare tools can now analyze your skin and lifestyle to recommend sunscreens tailored to your unique needs. 'With AI, skincare becomes both personalized and precise,' adds Dr. Santhanam. In a country like India, where intense sun exposure is a year-round reality, upgrading to sunscreens with Full Light Technology isn't just a seasonal recommendation - it's a daily essential. The damage caused by visible light and infrared radiation often goes unnoticed until signs like pigmentation, dullness, and fine lines begin to surface. Full Light Technology fills the critical gap left by traditional sunscreens, offering protection that's both preventive and corrective. As awareness around holistic skincare grows, dermatologists advocate for its everyday use, even indoors, to combat cumulative exposure from both natural and artificial sources. With National Sunscreen Day serving as a timely reminder, adopting advanced sun care solutions ensures that your skin remains protected, resilient, and future-ready. Let's go beyond the basics today. Opt for smarter protection with Full Light Technology and let innovation shield your skin every day. Using sunscreen a focal point as summer months approach

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer and from now until fall, beaches across North Carolina will be crowded. May 27th is National Sunscreen Day, highlighting the importance of regular sunscreen use. As many people prepare to be outdoors more often, it is important to remember to use some sunscreen to protect yourself from UV Rays. 'Radiation with time can transform skin cells and grow abnormal things like skin cancer,' Erik Lickteig with Central Coast Dermatology affiliated with Onslow Memorial Hospital said. 'So, the products we have out there are meant to help protect or mitigate that from happening and sunblock products are the best products. But, I do tell my patients any sunscreen or sun protective product or clothing item is helpful and in some fashion.' Lickteig said no matter your skin tone or complexion, using sunscreen is important as anyone can be impacted by skin cancer or skin damage from the sun. 'Any skin tone is prone to give you UV radiation, skin cancer growth. I do tell patients, yes, if you're fair skinned, the blond hair, blue eyes or red head, it's just easier for you to get burned, to get damage with or without sunscreen,' he said. 'Darker complexion, complected folks do have more natural protection, but they still are prone to getting skin cancer and bad things grow on their skin and it's just super important to apply the product.' Although it's important to use sunblock or sunscreen in the hot summer months when it's hot out, UV Rays can harm skin in other conditions as well. 'Sun is sun. UV radiation is UV radiation. I think there's a misunderstanding out there, especially the younger people, or if it's not hot or warm enough, I'm okay,' he said. 'It's not going to hurt me or injure my skin. That's not true. It's painless. It's colorless, it's odorless. It's still there. We need to protect ourselves from it, especially during those peak UV radiation times of the day. It is always a good choice to protect yourself.' Along with sunscreen, people can also wear wide-brimmed hats and clothing infused with UV protective materials to avoid sunburns which could one day lead to various types of skin cancer. Why Sunscreen Is A Year-Round Essential; Not Just a Summer Staple

Last Updated: This National Sunscreen Day, remember: come rain, shine, or screen time, don't forget your SPF When we think of skincare must-haves, moisturizers and serums often take centre stage. Yet, experts agree that sunscreen is the most crucial—and commonly neglected—step in your daily skincare routine. As we mark National Sunscreen Day, two leading voices in dermatological science, Dr. Shilpa Vora, Chief Research & Development Officer, Marico, and Dipak Shah, Senior Scientist, Himalaya Wellness Company, share their insights into why this humble skincare product is a non-negotiable in every season. 'Wearing a sunscreen is one of the most overlooked steps in a skincare routine," says Dr. Vora. 'However, it's the most important part of maintaining healthy skin. Exposure to the sun even indoors or on cloudy days, can cause redness, premature aging, dark spots, and even skin cancer." Dipak Shah echoes this, explaining that both UVA and UVB rays pose significant threats. 'UVA rays penetrate deeply and accelerate skin aging, while UVB rays are the primary cause of sunburn. A broad-spectrum SPF not only helps prevent photoaging and pigmentation but also plays a role in lowering the risk of skin cancer." Is Morning Application Enough? Many assume that one morning application is sufficient—but that's a myth. 'While the morning application is critical, sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours, especially if you're outdoors, sweating, or exposed to water," advises Shah. 'Even indoors, UV rays can penetrate through windows." Dr. Vora recommends a similar approach: 'If you have a long day ahead, reapply sunscreen throughout the day. Even during sunset hours, if you anticipate sun exposure, it's wise to add a protective layer." One of the biggest misconceptions? That sunscreen is just for summer. 'Even on overcast days, up to 80% of the sun's UV rays can penetrate through clouds," explains Shah. 'Monsoons don't mean a break from sun protection. UVA rays, in particular, can pass through both clouds and glass windows." 'Sunscreen is a year-long skin essential," Dr. Vora emphasizes. 'It's not just for the beach—it's for daily protection, no matter the weather or your location." Are You Applying It Right? Choosing the right sunscreen for your skin type is only half the job. Proper application makes all the difference. 'Use the two-finger rule—squeeze sunscreen along the length of two fingers for each application area," suggests Dr. Vora. 'Don't forget commonly overlooked areas like your ears, neck, and hands." Shah adds, 'As per the American Academy of Dermatology, most adults need about 1 ounce (a shot glass full) to adequately cover exposed skin. And always apply it 15 minutes before sun exposure for it to bind effectively." Finding the Right Formula for You Dr. Vora recommends different formulations based on skin type and need: Kaya Youth Protect Sunscreen SPF 50 PA++++: Ideal for youthful, nourished skin with added antioxidants. Kaya Daily Moisturizing Sunscreen SPF 30: A balanced daily-use formula that blends skincare with sun protection. Sunscreen isn't just a summer fling—it's a lifelong relationship. From battling pollution and free radicals to protecting against premature aging and cancer, sunscreen stands as your skin's first line of defense. So this National Sunscreen Day, remember: come rain, shine, or screen time, don't forget your SPF.
