Indian Railways launches RailOne app for passengers: Know how to download, features, usage, and other details

RailOne App (Image source: Press Information Bureau) In a move aimed at revolutionising digital rail services for passengers, Indian Railways officially launched the RailOne mobile application on July 1, 2025. Developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), RailOne integrates all major passenger services into a single platform, addressing long-standing challenges related to fragmented service apps. The new app combines the functionalities of multiple existing platforms—such as IRCTC Rail Connect, UTSonMobile, Rail Madad, National Train Enquiry System (NTES), and Food on Track—into one unified interface. With the growing demand for real-time, simplified, and mobile-based solutions, RailOne emerges as a strategic solution for millions of train travellers in India. Available for free on both Android and iOS platforms for download, the application not only offers reserved and unreserved ticket bookings but also includes advanced tools such as live train tracking, food ordering, coach position information, PNR status updates, and refund management. Its development is part of Indian Railways' broader digital transformation agenda, aiming to enhance passenger convenience while ensuring operational efficiency. RailOne app: Book tickets, order food, and check train status RailOne eliminates the need for travellers to juggle between multiple apps. Instead of using separate platforms for bookings, food orders, or feedback, passengers can now access all services through one app. The single-sign-on feature allows users to log in using credentials from IRCTC or UTSonMobile, streamlining account access. The app enables booking for both reserved and unreserved tickets through the "Plan My Journey" tool, covering various travel classes and quotas. A filter-based booking history section helps users keep track of past reservations efficiently. RailOne app offers live train tracking and coach finder One of the key features of RailOne is real-time train tracking. Passengers can view live updates on their train's status, platform number, and expected delays. The Coach Position Finder further assists in identifying where specific coaches will halt, simplifying the boarding process at crowded stations. RailOne incorporates R-Wallet, Indian Railways' official digital wallet system. It supports secure transactions using biometric or mPIN authentication. Users can top up and manage their funds under the 'You' tab, without needing to rely on external payment gateways for every transaction. RailOne app lets you order food and supports multiple languages The app features a built-in food ordering system that lets passengers place meal orders from IRCTC-approved vendors during their journey. The integration of the Rail Madad platform means that passengers can raise complaints, track resolution status, and receive assistance all within the same app interface. Recognising India's linguistic diversity, RailOne supports multiple regional languages to ensure that passengers across different states can access railway services without language barriers. This multilingual capability aims to improve usability among first-time app users and rural passengers. Efficient refund and cancellation management RailOne offers a streamlined system for managing cancellations and refunds. Whether due to train delays, cancellations, or passenger changes, users can initiate and monitor refund requests without navigating through different applications or web pages. Tatkal booking and reservation system overhaul In parallel with RailOne's release, Indian Railways is also making significant changes to its reservation infrastructure. Beginning July 1, tatkal bookings are restricted to verified users only, requiring Aadhaar or DigiLocker verification. OTP-based authentication is also expected to be implemented by the end of July. The system for preparing waitlist charts has been extended from four hours to eight hours ahead of departure. For trains scheduled before 2 PM, final charts will be released at 9 PM on the previous day, offering travellers more clarity earlier in their journey planning. Backend enhancements to handle growing passenger demand Indian Railways has announced that by December 2025, the enhanced reservation system—being developed by CRIS—will be capable of handling 150,000 ticket bookings and four million enquiry requests per minute. These upgrades will improve system reliability, particularly during high-traffic periods such as holidays and festivals. Special features will also be introduced for students, patients, and Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), ensuring more inclusive access to railway services.
