Railways Advises Use of NTES App The Indian Railways has issued a warning for passengers who depend on certain private apps to check the live location of trains. The Railways has asked the passengers to use only the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app. This app provides accurate train timings and related information. According to the Railways, most passengers in the country use private apps like Rail Yatri, Ixigo Train, and Where is My Train. All You Need to Know About NTES: NTES app is the official app operated by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). The Railways has asked the passengers to use only the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app for the rail related queries. The Railways has stated that passengers often receive incorrect information from third-party apps. These apps provide updates about train timings, cancellations, or route changes. If NTES provides incorrect information, legal action can be taken to seek compensation if necessary. The Railways have previously issued warnings against private apps. After receiving multiple complaints from passengers regarding misinformation, the Railways have reiterated this warning. Railways provide accurate information through the Real-Time Train Information System (RTIS). The Railways have clearly stated that they will not be responsible for any errors from private apps and have urged passengers to use only the NTES app for train-related updates.

The introduction of the 'Next Generation NTES ( National Train Enquiry System )' portal significantly enhanced the capabilities of railway staff handling system enables staff to deliver instant information to passengers with greater accuracy, detail, and real-time updates than previously possible. According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Saurabh Kataria, the advanced portal allows station staff to access comprehensive details about coach positions, train status, potential delays, precise arrival-departure timings, and upcoming trains within 8 hours through a single click. The real-time data updates ensure enquiry staff can respond to queries without any lag technological advancement eliminated waiting times for passengers and reduced confusion at stations. The primary beneficiaries are the enquiry counter staff, who can now deliver services more efficiently and confidently through this system. The system is currently operational at 7 principal stations in Bhopal Division: Bhopal, Rani Kamlapati, Sant Hirdaram Nagar, Bina, Guna, Itarsi, and initiative forms part of Indian Railways' digital modernisation efforts, aimed at improving passenger experience whilst empowering frontline railway staff with technological tools for superior service delivery.
