Alkhorayef Water and Power Technologies Co. (AWPT) signed today, Aug. 13, a contract with the National Water Co. (NWC) to implement sewage networks in Al-Kharj Governorate (Phase 7). The 36-month contract is valued at SAR 214.55 million, excluding VAT, the company said in a statement to Tadawul. The project is expected to positively impact the company's financials in Q4 2025. There are no related parties to the deal, the statement added.

ACWA Power inks $800M desalination deals with Senegal

ACWA Power Co. signed several agreements with Senegal's government for the Grande Côte desalination plant. In an emailed statement to Argaam, the Saudi utility said this project is the largest desalination imitative in West Africa with total investment of up to $800 million. The project will be implemented in two phases with a production capacity of 200,000 cubic meters/day each of desalinated water. The large-scale project, which will be entirely powered by renewable energy, aims to supply up to 400,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day to Senegal's capital, Dakar, and the surrounding areas, in order to enhance water security in the region. The financial close of the project is expected by 2026, with full commercial operations set to begin by 2031. The project represents a long-term strategic partnership with Senegal's National Water Co. and is anticipated to play a key role in improving the country's water infrastructure and boosting its resilience, ACWA Power added. The Grand Côte project will rely entirely on green energy sourced from Senegal's national grid under a special supply agreement. The project is considered among the few desalination initiatives globally to be fully powered by renewable energy.

National Water Co. ready for post-Hajj season

MADINAH: The National Water Co. has confirmed it is operationally ready for the post-Hajj season. The company said it would distribute more than 630,000 cubic meters of potable water daily to pilgrims at the Prophet's Mosque and throughout Madinah and said its readiness built on ongoing efforts to serve pilgrims and visitors. The plan involves more than 1,200 employees, including technical, administrative and engineering staff, working to provide water and environmental services. The company added the plan included securing water storage and coordinating with water production and distribution systems, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Water will be supplied daily during the post-Hajj season through continuous pumping to the central area and religious sites. Chemical and biological tests will be conducted to ensure compliance with water quality standards. The company said its smart operation system continues to manage and monitor Madinah's water network, overseeing water pressure and quality in pipelines and reservoirs.

National Water Co. completes $106m in upgrades ahead of Hajj

JEDDAH: The National Water Co., through its Western Cluster, has completed 18 infrastructure and operational projects ahead of the Hajj season in Makkah and the holy sites, valued at SR400 million ($106 million). The projects are part of efforts to refine water and environmental services for residents, visitors and the millions of pilgrims expected during Hajj. Upgrades will boost operational efficiency, expand network coverage and enhance real-time monitoring capabilities. Capital works include the construction of a 190,000-cubic meter steel water tank along with the development and rehabilitation of water storage facilities, main pipelines, valve rooms and distribution networks. These efforts are designed to support supply sustainability and reliability, particularly during peak pilgrimage hours. Operational upgrades include the installation of advanced monitoring systems such as pressure gauges, meters and network sensors. Pumps and isolation valves across water, wastewater, fire and cooling systems have also been modernized to boost performance. More than 1,200 technical, engineering and administrative staff have been assigned to oversee operations and maintain uninterrupted service during the Hajj season. The company said it will provide round-the-clock water supply to the Prophet's Mosque and key religious and historical sites in Madinah. To safeguard water quality, all storage units and connections to pilgrim accommodation are subject to testing. Monitoring is conducted through teams at central and mobile laboratories, which can analyze more than 1,000 water samples per day. Water flow in Madinah's central area will be managed using a smart operation system connected to the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition monitoring and control room, allowing real-time oversight throughout the Hajj season.
