Former LSU baseball star Paul Skenes pulling away in race for NL Cy Young award
Former LSU baseball star Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes' odds to win the National League's Cy Young award shifted in his favor over the last week.
Skenes has -300 odds to take home the annual award, per BetMGM. He holds a steady lead over the Philadelphia Phillies' duo of Cristopher Sanchez (+450) and Zack Wheeler (+600)
Skenes' 2.13 ERA ranks first in the National League. His 0.96 WHIP is second and his 166 strikeouts are fourth. The right-hander has thrown 148 innings in 2025, following up his rookie of the year campaign from 2024.
For the second-straight year, Skenes made the start on the mound for the National eagle in the All-Star game. He remains one of the best pitchers in baseball over halfway through his second season as a professional.
After leading LSU to the national championship, Skenes was selected at first overall by the Pirates in the 2023 MLB Draft.
