CCC urges transdisciplinary efforts vs. climate change
The Climate Change Commission (CCC) highlighted the importance of science-based research and development (R&D) in promoting climate-resilience and protection of national wealth.
During the 8th National Research and Development Conference by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), CCC Vice Chairperson and Executive Director Robert EA Borje highlighted key strategies and called for a 'transdisciplinary approach' in addressing the effects of climate impacts.
'Resilience is one of our key responses to protect our economy from the impacts of climate change. The National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and the Nationally Determined Contribution Implementation Plan (NDCIP) are two critical frameworks the government has put in place to meet these challenges,' Borje said.
In the field of research and practice, transdisciplinary refers to an approach that integrates knowledge and methods from different disciplines and sectors to address complex problems and generate new knowledge.
'We need civil engineers working alongside economists; climate scientists partnering with social innovators and community leaders; data experts collaborating with agricultural specialists and urban planners,' he added.
Based on climate analytics, the official warned that the cost of inaction on climate change will be critical by 2030.
