Inter' Bisseck won't join Germany national team due to injury
Inter Milan's Yann Bisseck walks across the pitch with the silver medal after the UEFA Champions League final soccer match between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain at Munich Football Arena. Christian Charisius/dpa Inter Milan defender Yann Aurel Bisseck won't join the Germany national team for the Nations League Final Four due to muscular issues, the German Football Federation (DFB) said on Sunday. He will be replaced by Thilo Kehrer, the DFB added. The Monaco defender is expected to join the squad on Monday. Advertisement Bisseck had his Champions League title dreams crushed on Saturday in a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the final in Munich. He came on in the 53rd minute, but had to be subbed off just nine minutes later due to injury. The player held his thigh and was seen wiping tears from his eyes after the substitution. Bisseck is at risk of missing the Club World Cup with Inter. The tournament starts on June 14. Kehrer last played for Germany in June 2023 and this is the first time he's called up by coach Julian Nagelsmann. The national team is gathered at the training camp in Bavaria's Herzogenaurach to prepare for the Nations League Final Four on June 4-8. Germany face Portugal in the semi-finals on Wednesday. The winner will face either 2020-21 champions France or title holders Spain in the final.

Nagelsmann: Ter Stegen to be Germany's number one in Nations league
Germany national coach Julian Nagelsmann takes part in a press conference, ahead of the UEFA Nations League semifinal soccer match against Portugal. Federico Gambarini/dpa Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann said that Marc-Andre ter Stegen will be the starting goalkeeper in the Nations League Final Four on June 4-8. "Marc will be the number one, I've emphasized that many times. I'm very confident he'll play two top games," Nagelsmann said in a news conference on Friday. Advertisement Ter Stegen returned to the team after recovering from a serious knee injury, but it's unclear whether he will take the position between the posts. The Barcelona keeper was set to become Germany's number one after Manuel Neuer retired from the national team after last summer's Euro 2024. But the knee injury suffered in September opened the door for Oliver Baumann and Alexander Nübel. Baumann started both matches against Italy in March. On Wednesday, Germany face 2018-19 Nations League champions Portugal in the semi-finals at the Allianz Arena in Munich. The winner will face either 2020-21 champions France or title holders Spain. Advertisement "The Spanish team has realized how important the Nations League can be. It can be a mini-European championship," Nagelsman said about Spain, who won the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany. The coach stressed that his goal is to win the Nations League title in the build-up to the 2026 World Cup. "Of course we want to win both games (semi-finals and final), we'd love to win the title. We want to boost our confidence. We want to get to the point where we can win titles – even if it's a small one," he said. Rüdiger in 'opportunityphase' after outburst Nagelsmann said that Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger knows that "the limit was reached" with his outburst during the Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona last month. Advertisement "He knows my opinion, that it's not good and that the limit was reached. He also knows that this can't happen again, otherwise there will be major consequences. We are very transparent," Nagelsmann said. Rüdiger was sent off for throwing an object at the referee and angrily reacting to a foul given against team-mate Kylian Mbappe shortly before the final whistle. Barcelona won the match 3-2. Referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea said in his report that Rüdiger was dismissed for "throwing an object from the technical area, which missed me." The defender reportedly threw an ice cube at the official. Rüdiger has apologized for the incident. "At some point we have to accept the apology. He's in the opportunity phase now. That's over for me, too. I look forward to better behaviour in the future," Nagelsmann added.

Burkardt replaces injured Stiller in Germany squad
Mainz's Jonathan Burkardt scores his side's second goal during the German Bundesliga soccer match between FSV Mainz 05 and Bayer Leverkusen at Mewa Arena. Arne Dedert/dpa Midfielder Angelo Stiller has pulled out of the Germany squad for their Nations League Final Four and has been replaced by striker Jonathan Burkardt. The German football federation said in a statement on Tuesday that Stiller's injured ankle had not healed enough and he would not travel. Advertisement Stiller rushed back to play in the German Cup final won by his club side VfB Stuttgart on Saturday but playing on the ankle risked his chances of turning out for Germany. Burkardt's late call-up comes after criticism of coach Julian Nagelsmann for overlooking him in the original squad despite his 18 Bundesliga goals this term. Germany, who gather on Friday, face Portugal in the semi-final in Munich on June 4. France take on Spain in the other semi in Stuttgart on June 5, before the Munich final on June 8.

Spain squad for Nations League Final Four announced: Isco returns, Joan Garcia omitted
Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has announced his squad for the upcoming Nations League Final Four fixtures in Germany next week. The headline for La Roja is a return for Real Betis playmaker Isco, who is back after a six-year absence at the age of 33. They head into the semi-finals as strong favourites for the tournament, reigning as Euro 2024 champions and having put the Netherlands out in the quarter-final stage on penalties. France are their opponents on the 5th of June in Stuttgart, and the winner will play against one of Portugal or Germany, who play the night before. Isco returns to the Spanish national team Image via La Liga Isco is back in the side having not played since 2019 during Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Sweden, albeit he was called up for Euro 2024, before a late injury tragically kept him out. Following a second half of the season that was amongst the very best in La Liga, he has earned his spot back in the squad. Advertisement New Real Madrid signing Dean Huijsen keeps his place at the expense of his future teammate Raul Asencio, while Barcelona counterpart Pau Cubarsi comes back from injury to take the spot of his defensive partner Inigo Martinez. Gavi is also back in the side for the first time since 2023, when he suffered his cruciate ligament injury. Omissions: Joan Garcia and Ferran Torres miss out Barcelona forward Ferran Torres is in the best form of his career, but is recovering from apendicitis and seemingly de la Fuente considered it too tight a deadline to come back from an operation. The headline omission perhaps is Espanyol's Joan Garcia, with consequences for his future. Advertisement The Catalan goalkeeper was the most impressive in La Liga this season, but de la Fuente has decided to continue with a tried an trusted trio of Unai Simon, David Raya and Alex Remiro. The other major surprise is perhaps the absence of Ayoze Perez, who has also had a fine season, but joins the list of those to miss out, which includes Bryan Zaragoza and Marc Casado. Barcelona are the side with the most players in the squad, numbering six, with Real Sociedad have a trio in the team too. Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have one inclusion each with defenders Robin Le Normand and Huijsen. Full Squad: Goalkeepers: Unai Simon, David Raya, Alex Remiro. Advertisement Defenders: Pedro Porro, Oscar Mingueza, Pau Cubarsi, Robin Le Normand, Dani Vivian, Dean Huijsen, Alejandro Grimaldo, Marc Cucurella. Midfielders: Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Pedri, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, Isco, Alex Baena, Fabian Ruiz. Forwards: Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Yeremy Pino, Dani Olmo, Samu Aghehowa, Alvaro Morata, Mikel Oyarzabal.

Ter Stegen, Füllkrug and Gnabry return to Germany squad, Musiala out
Munich's Serge Gnabry (2nd R) celebrates scoring his side's third goal with teammates during the German Bundesliga soccer match between TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich at PreZero Arena. Uwe Anspach/dpa Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen and West Ham forward Niclas Füllkrug have been included in the Germany squad for the Nations League Final Four. Coach Julian Nagelsmann's list announced on Thursday also included Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry. Antonio Rüdiger, Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz were left out as they recover from injuries. Advertisement Nagelsmann said that the decision to leave out the trio was "extremely bitter," but consistent from his point of view. All three players would have been available for short spells at most. "And we also have to look further ahead," Nagelsmann said with a view to the upcoming World Cup season. The Nations League Final Four is on June 4-8 in Germany, with Nagelsmann's team facing Portugal in the semi-finals. "If we reach our top level, we can beat Portugal. That is our goal. We will put everything into it to make sure we reach the final in Munich," the coach said. Gnabry last played for the national team in November. He missed the Nations League quarter-final against Italy in March due to his inconsistent performances at Bayern. Advertisement Media reports on Wednesday said Gnabry was set to return to the team due to his improvement in performance. Ter Stegen is returning after recovering from a serious knee injury, but it's unclear whether he will take the position between the posts. The Barcelona keeper was set to become Germany's number one after Manuel Neuer retired from the national team after last summer's Euro 2024. But the knee injury suffered in September opened the door for Oliver Baumann and Alexander Nübel. Baumann started both matches against Italy in March. Füllkrug last played for Germany in September and has since struggled with Achilles tendon problems, which had an impact on his form. But he was called up again in the absence of the injured Borussia Mönchengladbach striker Tim Kleindienst. Advertisement Florian Wirtz, Waldemar Anton and Felix Nmecha are also coming back. As confirmed by under-21 coach Antonio di Salvo on Wednesday, VfB Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade was called up to the Germany senior team for the first time. Di Salvo had confirmed the move when naming his squad for the under-21 European championship. Woltemade was also included in the U21 squad for the Euros in Slovakia on June 11-28, but has declared he has no objections to playing in both tournaments. Hoffenheim's Tom Bischof is surprisingly the second newcomer in the team.
