‘Fantastic' Loch Ness Monster sighting reported — the first in 2025: ‘Committed to uncovering the truth'
It's a Nessie business. Officials at a museum dedicated to Loch Ness, the world-renowned body of water in Scotland home to the so-called 'Loch Ness Monster,' have announced the first potential sighting of the elusive beast in 2025. Photos showing a 'black mass' slithering underneath the chilly waters of the famous lake were handed over to the Loch Ness Centre in Inverness by a witness who spotted the spooky shape and snapped a picture as evidence. The exciting occurrence is said to have taken place over a period of several minutes, thanks to favorable weather — offering a clear view of the mysterious movements, SWNS reported. The center's Nagina Ishaq, commenting on the event said: 'We've had numerous observations over the years, but this recent sighting has been particularly captivating. 'The conditions on the day of this sighting were absolutely perfect. This could very well be our first significant sighting of the year, further fueling the mystery surrounding Loch Ness and its most famous resident,' Ishaq said. 'As always, we are committed to solving the mystery of Nessie once and for all,' she assured. 'Our previous collaborations … allowed us to advance our research efforts significantly, and this potential sighting is a reminder that the mystery of Loch Ness is far from solved. 'We continue to explore every possibility and are committed to uncovering the truth,' Ishaq concluded. Independent research organization Loch Ness Exploration encouraged truth seekers to keep up their efforts — and to share their findings, too. 'It's fantastic to see the ongoing enthusiasm for scanning the waters of Loch Ness in search of the legendary monster,' enthused the group's Alan Mackenna. 'Whether you're capturing intriguing sonar readings, spotting unusual surface disturbances, or noticing patterns in the loch's natural behavior, we'd love to hear from you. Every observation adds to our understanding, whether it's potential evidence of Nessie or new insights into the loch's unique ecosystem.' 'Keep sharing your findings—we're always excited to analyze and explore what they could mean,' Mackenna said. At least one expert seemed to recently pour a loch's worth of cold water on countless theories — after some good-natured prodding from Prince William. During a visit to NatureMetrics, a research lab near London, the heir to the British throne asked if the institution's ability to extract environmental DNA, or eDNA, from water and other natural substances meant they'd been able to answer the nagging Nessie question. Firm founder Dr. Kat Bruce then claimed that the so-called creature was more likely a 'very big eel' — at least according to testing done on the infamous body of water.

Royal News Roundup: Kate Middleton's Body Language Shift, King Charles's Striking Portrait & the 2 Newest Royal Babies
Kensington Palace shared a slideshow of photos and videos on Instagram, featuring Prince William getting his hands dirty during his visit to Centrepoint. Kate Middleton was fully in her element when she visited a Welsh charity called Tŷ Hafan. The Princess of Wales wore a dress with a prominent bow, which was a huge trend in 2024. Prince William shared a video featuring behind-the-scenes footage of himself welcoming Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan to Windsor Castle. The Prince of Wales embarked on a solo visit to NatureMetrics, which happens to be one of the finalists for his coveted Earthshot Prize. Prince William attended a football/soccer match between Aston Villa FC and Celtic FC at Villa Park. Cameras captured the royal's dramatic reactions as the score fluctuated over the course of the match. The Prince and Princess of Wales stepped out in London for an official event honoring the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. While chatting with Holocaust survivors, Princess Catherine showed admirably warm body language (even though it shifted halfway through the event). King Charles also paid his respects by visiting the Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Poland and then attending the commemoration service at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum. The royal family released a brand-new portrait of King Charles to commemorate Burns Night, and it immediately made me think of Princess Catherine. According to body language expert Darren Stanton, King Charles's body language in the portrait speaks volumes about his confidence. The Prince and Princess of Wales also celebrated Burns Night by sharing their own love letter to poet Robert Burns. I was so distracted by the poem that I nearly missed the royal couple's unique sign-off. Buckingham Palace announced that Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, have welcomed a newborn baby girl. Princess Anne shared never-before-heard details about her 2024 accident, which resulted in a five-night hospital stay to treat a minor concussion. The Princess Royal addressed retirement rumors and revealed that she has no plans to slow down anytime soon. Queen Rania of Jordan revealed that she's going to be a grandma (again). The royal announced that her daughter, Princess Iman, and her son-in-law, Jameel Thermiotis, are expecting their first child. The Belgian Royal Palace announced that Princess Maria Laura (King Philippe's niece) and her husband, William Isvy, have welcomed their first child. King Charles posted a personal message on social media congratulating the participants of the World's Toughest Row. Prince Harry offered a rare glimpse inside his Montecito home when he released a surprise video to encourage nominations for the 20th annual WellChild Awards. The Duke of Sussex was supposed to travel to London in February 2025 to testify in court. But now that he's reached a settlement with News Group Newspapers (NGN), the royal canceled his upcoming travel plans. Want more royal news sent right to your inbox? Click here. Prince William helps Big Manny with strawberry science experiment
Prince William described himself as a 'beautiful assistant' as he helped social science star Big Manny with an pair were working together to extract DNA - genetic information inside cells - from a strawberry. In a video, Prince William was seen holding a sandwich bag for Big Manny to place and then squash the strawberry, explaining that it will "release all the cell content" and "break the cell wall". Writing on a post on Instagram, Big Manny explained that he and the prince had been visiting the company NatureMetrics, where the unexpected duo had been finding out how they extract "environmental DNA from soil, rivers and the air to learn more about the world".Later in the video Prince William held a science beaker for Big Manny to add ingredients for the solution used for DNA solution included salt and washing up liquid, which the prince enthusiastically mixed together before tipping it into the sandwich bag containing the strawberry. Big Manny explained that strawberries are great for DNA extraction experiments because they are "octoploid", that means they have eight of each type of chromosome in each are tiny, threadlike structures that carry information inside most cells of living also have more DNA than other fruit, so are perfect for experiments of this kind.

Prince William has 'the best day of my life' spraying pond water at journalists
Prince William has claimed to have enjoyed the "best day of my life" as he was encouraged to spray pond water at journalists. The royal aimed the cloudy water at the media as he joined school children in Guildford collecting DNA samples for NatureMetrics, a finalist in his environmental awards, on Wednesday. As they were gathering water, NatureMetrics founder Dr Kat Bruce suggested William and the children try and spray some at nearby journalists. The prince replied "great idea" as he filled up a syringe and took aim at the reporters nearby. Although the sprays fell short, William was smiling and said: "Oh nearly, so nearly... This is the best day of my life - great fun." When two further attempts failed, the prince was given a tour of the nearby labs. The samples were gathered with syringes with a filter to collect environmental DNA. He was shown how NatureMetrics then uses an extraction machine that produces a DNA code sequence which allows the team to identify everything from bacteria to a blue whale. A finalist in the 2024 Earthshot Prize, the company is attempting to collect and report environmental DNA "to help commercial and conservation organisations make more informed choices to protect and maintain biodiverse ecosystems". While at their laboratory, William said: "So much of what the environmental world needs right now is data. This is fantastic you guys have got this ability to be able to tell us what's really there. "There's a lot of guesswork, there's a lot of painstaking volunteers and science going into this, but actually what we need is to be able to understand bigger, large-scale projects as to what is in each area." Read more from Sky News: Dr Bruce said she told the prince to spray water at the journalists because "we always have fun when we're doing sampling". "Once you've done it a couple of times, you're like 'oh we can have a bit of fun with this, where can we spray,'" she added. Prince William is the founder and president of the Earthshot Prize, a global award that celebrates environmental initiatives.
