JDT slapped with RM103k fine for fan fury and handshake snub
KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) have been slapped with a US$24,000 (RM103,092.54) fine by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for multiple disciplinary breaches during their Asian Champions League (ACL) Elite last-16 return-leg clash against Buriram United on March 11. The AFC disciplinary and ethics committee announced the sanctions on Thursday, citing crowd misconduct, organisational failures, and unsporting behaviour by players. Spectators at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium were found to have thrown at least 20 water bottles onto the pitch and surrounding areas. An unauthorised individual also entered the controlled zone and verbally abused match officials after the final whistle. JDT players were faulted for failing to observe the mandatory post-match fair play handshake, which the AFC described as "an act of unsporting behaviour." The Southern Tigers were hit with three separate fines — US$10,000 (RM42,955.23) under Article 65.1 for spectator misconduct, US$13,000 (RM55,841.80) under Article 64.1 for poor match organisation and US$1,000 (RM4,295.52) under Article 50.1 for bringing the game into disrepute. All fines must be settled within 30 days. The match ended in controversy after a Jorge Obregon goal was disallowed via VAR, sparking fury among the home crowd. The chaotic scenes that followed cast a shadow over JDT's campaign, which had already ended in disappointment with a 1-0 aggregate loss. Thursday's penalties add to a growing list of disciplinary actions faced by JDT during this season's ACL. Earlier punishments included — US$5,000 (RM21,477.60) for Natxo Insa over post-match comments aimed at referees, US$3,750 (RM16,108.20) for team misconduct and US$1,500 (RM6,443.28) for a delayed second half. Players Park Jun Heong and Murilo Henrique were also fined and suspended for separate offences. Despite the setbacks, JDT pocketed US$1,384,250 (RM5,941,342.30) from the tournament — US$1 million (RM4,295,520.00) as a participation fee and US$400,000 (RM1,718,208.00) as a performance bonus.

Not so soon for Natxo – aging captain won't think of retiring yet
PETALING JAYA: At 38, Natxo Insa is the oldest player in Johor Darul Ta'zim's (JDT) star-studded squad, but the Spanish-born Malaysian midfielder continues to marshal the engine room like a true general. As JDT gear up to face Pahang in the Malaysia Cup final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil tonight, many eyes will be on Natxo, who is expected to lead the Southern Tigers to another glorious finish. With his 39th birthday coming in June, questions are arising over whether this could this be his swansong in Malaysian football. The former Celta Vigo player, however, isn't entertaining any thoughts of retirement just yet. 'I'm going to treat this final as if it's my very first game,' said Natxo. 'I want to enjoy it, and I want to win. At this stage of your career, you learn to appreciate every moment, because you never know when it might be your last. So you push yourself to the limit.' Despite his age, Natxo shows no signs of slowing down. 'I still enjoy football a lot. I feel energised every time I step onto the pitch. The motivation to give 100 pe rcent is always there, because the future is never guaranteed.' Tonight, Natxo is expected to partner Afiq Fazail in midfield, a duo crucial to JDT's hopes of controlling the tempo and rhythm of the game.

Natxo Insa Stresses Respect For Rivals As JDT Eye Malaysia Cup Glory
KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 (Bernama) -- Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) captain Natxo Insa has highlighted the importance of respecting opponents as his side prepares for the 2024/2025 Malaysia Cup final against Sri Pahang FC at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil here, tomorrow night. Reflecting on the unpredictability of cup finals, the 2021 Malaysia Cup final where Kuala Lumpur City FC shocked JDT with a 2-0 victory, Natxo stressed that respect for all rivals is central to JDT's approach. 'I think the biggest skill or the big quality we have is we respect everyone. It doesn't matter the game, the competition, we know we must perform always. So having this discipline, this conduct and habit I think allows us to be always focused on every match, more in the finals. bootstrap slideshow 'So, I think that makes a difference between us and the rest, to be always focused. It doesn't matter the game, the opponent, local (players), champions (clubs), we always face this I think that allows us to face or approach the game in the correct way,' he told a pre-match press conference here, today. The 38-year-old midfielder said that when asked despite JDT's consistent dominance, the 2021 final proved that anything could happen in a one-off game and was asked how he ensures his teammates approach this final with full respect for both the occasion and their opponents. Natxo has won four Malaysia Cup titles with JDT since 2017 including back-to-back triumphs in 2022 and 2023. The last time JDT and Sri Pahang met in the Malaysia Cup final was in the 2014 season, where the Tok Gajah squad emerged victorious 5-3 in a penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2 here. In this season's Super League campaign, JDT defeated Sri Pahang 3-0 and 3-1 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, respectively. JDT also are on a mission to create history by becoming the first team to win the 'triple-treble' after being crowned FA Cup champions and securing the Super League title this season.
