Nagpur event honours theatre artists and children at divisional award ceremony
Nagpur: As many as 127 theatre artists , technicians, and children were felicitated at the Divisional Award Ceremony for the 63rd Maharashtra State Amateur Marathi Drama Competition and the 21st State Children's Drama Competition on Monday at Sai Sabhagruh . Organised by the directorate of cultural affairs (DCA), Maharashtra govt, the grand felicitation ceremony was attended by prominent names from the theatre fraternity. Ajay Patil, president of Natya Parishad Nagpur Branch; Salim Sheikh, president of the Mahanagar branch; Ravindra Fadnavis of Bal Kala Akademi; Geetabali Unhavae from Mumbai Natya Parishad; Jayashree Kapse, senior director; Chandrashekhar Dorle from Amravati; and Sandip Shende, assistant director of DCA, were among the dignitaries present. The event honoured outstanding performers from both adult and children's categories. Renowned theatre personalities, including actors Puja Pimpalkar and Sachin Giri, playwright Asawari Naidu, and other prominent figures like Ravindra Bhusari, Rakesh Khade, Virendra Latankar, Baba Padam, Vishal Yadav, and Subodh Surjikar, also felicitated the winners. Reflecting on the importance of timely recognition, organisers said, "It is now strategically decided to hold the divisional-level prize distribution within a year of the competition results to avoid delays. Timely distribution of prize money is crucial for sustaining amateur theatre in Maharashtra." The prize money was revised recently, with the first prize team receiving Rs40,000, second place Rs30,000, and individual technicians and directors receiving between Rs5,000 and Rs20,000. Silver medals and certificates were awarded to the actors. One of the notable winners, Hrushikesh Vinayak Niwal, won two awards — Best Director in the children's play category and an appreciation certificate for acting in the state festival held in Chandrapur. Film and theatre sector to get industry status in Maharashtra, says minister
1 2 3 Nagpur: The film and theatre sector, along with Marathi theatre, will soon be accorded 'industry status' to ensure justice for the sector and generate more employment opportunities. A formal announcement regarding this will be made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Maharashtra Day, May 1, said Uday Samant, minister of industries and Marathi language, who is also a Trustee of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad . Samant was speaking at the concluding ceremony of the 100th Divisional Marathi Natya Sammelan, organised by the Nagpur branch of the Natya Parishad. Theatre summit president Jabbar Patel, vice-president of the central committee of Natya Parishad Naresh Gadekar, Nagpur branch president Ajay Patil, Sanjay Rahate, and presidents and office-bearers of various branches were present. Samant lauded the Nagpur branch for successfully organising the historic theatre summit and also offered some suggestions. "Merely granting a classical status to the Marathi language is not enough. The true essence of Marathi's classical nature lies in the creative experiments undertaken by theatre artists, writers, and directors," he said. Samant urged that the legacy of such creative works should be revived for the new generation and preserved meticulously. He further called upon the Natya Parishad to take initiatives to ensure welfare measures and employment opportunities for artists and technicians from the theatre and film sectors. He urged branch officials to take up the responsibility of pursuing the govt for the development of small theatre spaces and related infrastructure across Maharashtra. Veteran theatre personalities Madhu Joshi, Prabhakar Ambone, Shraddha Telang, Bapu Chanakhekar, Shobha Jogdev, Dr Ranjan Darvekar, Dr Vijay Vaidya, Suresh Ghadyalpatil, Prakash Edlabadkar, Vijay Jathe, Sanjay Waliwkar, Vatsala Polkamwar, Dayanand Chandanwale, Meena Deshpande, and Sachin Kumbhare were felicitated. Winners of the Late Ganesh Naidu Memorial Art Competition — Vaman Tulsakar, Rukmini Dixit, and Tushar Raut — were also awarded on the occasion. Actress Bhargavi Chirmule conducted the proceedings. Overnight one-act play contest today to mark beginning of 100th Marathi natya sammelan
Nagpur: The much-awaited 100th Divisional Marathi Natya Sammelan , organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad , will open on April 24 with an overnight one-act play competition at the Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium in Reshimbagh. Dedicated to Dr Girish Gandhi, a respected name in cultural circles, this unique event sets the tone for the four-day theatre extravaganza in Nagpur. The contest, which begins at 6pm on Thursday, will be inaugurated by the popular comedy artist Hemant Patil, known for his stellar performance in the show Maharashtrachi Hasyajatra. The ceremony will be chaired by Ajay Patil, president of the Natya Parishad's Nagpur branch, and will have Padma Shri Dr Parshuram Khune, a veteran of the Jhadipatti folk art tradition, as chief guest. Nine one-act plays by theatre groups from Mumbai, Amravati, Thane, Ambernath, and Nagpur will be performed through the night. A panel of judges — Adv Shailesh Gojamgunde, Shekhar Bendre, and Kajal Raut — will evaluate the performances. The competition will conclude with the prize distribution ceremony at 6am on Friday, graced by Chala Hawa Yeu Dya fame actor Bharat Ganeshpure. The winners will take home attractive cash prizes: Rs 51,000 first prize, Rs 31,000 second, and Rs 21,000 third, along with individual awards for best acting, direction, set design, lighting, background music, and scriptwriting. "This is a celebration of Maharashtra's rich theatre legacy. We are thrilled to begin the sammelan with this high-voltage artistic night," said Naresh Gadekar, vice president of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad.
