Honking row led to Beed clash, not beef suspicion; cross-FIRs registered for attempt to murder
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In Beed district, what initially appeared to be a communal clash over alleged beef transportation has been confirmed by police as a road rage incident stemming from a dispute over honking at the Annabhau Sathe Chowk. The confrontation, which took place around 9pm on Wednesday, left four men injured, with both parties subsequently filing cross FIRs alleging attempted murder. Shivajinagar police reports indicate the dispute originated between a Bullet motorcycle rider and an autorickshaw driver who quarrelled over honking. Inspector Kishor Pawar said, "It was a spontaneous dispute that escalated into a physical fight. Both parties attacked each other with sharp weapons." The altercation resulted in injuries to four people, who are receiving treatment at the Beed Civil Hospital and a private medical facility. Police have confirmed that none of the wounded men are in a critical state. Beed superintendent of police Navneet Kanwat confirmed that night vision CCTV footage captured the entire incident, which is under investigation. "There was no communal motive or personal enmity involved. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo The clash was purely due to a momentary altercation," Kanwat said. Police have dismissed this theory, with a senior officer saying, "Preliminary investigations and CCTV evidence make it clear that the fight erupted over honking, not religious or cattle-related reasons." The incident briefly caused unrest in certain areas, with minority community members gathering at the hospital, though authorities swiftly controlled the situation. Authorities have registered cross FIRs under relevant Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections, including attempt to murder, and are proceeding based on forensic and video evidence. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The district has about 2,166 policemen working across the hierarchy against a sanctioned strength of 2,310, data shows. Superintendent of police Navneet Kanwat said the eligibility for the routine transfer was determined on three criteria: completion of five years of service (continuous or intermittent) at the same post by May 31 (229 personnel); completion of 12 years of service within the same taluka (216 personnel); and postings in their native taluka (161 personnel). "The transfers were carried out as per the directives laid out in state govt's resolution dated April 23, 2010. A district-level establishment board was constituted to implement the process, and a review meeting for the annual transfer cycle was held on March 27 this year," he said. Subsequently, all eligible personnel were asked to submit transfer requests. From May 14 to 16, the SP office conducted in-person counselling sessions to hear individual cases. Transfers were then finalised based on manpower availability, case load, law and order requirements, and vacant posts at stations and branches. Of the 606 personnel, a significant number — 363 — was found eligible for transfer from within Beed taluka. However, due to concerns over a potential manpower shortage if all were moved out simultaneously, the board decided to relax criteria in certain cases. Accordingly, exceptions were granted to 49 personnel on administrative grounds, 13 on medical grounds, 1 national-level athlete with medal achievements, and 4 technical specialists. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Kanwat said additionally, in line with the DGP's circular dated May 21, 2013, as many as 30 personnel due to retire within a year were retained in their current postings. Officials emphasised that the entire process was carried out in a transparent and impartial manner, keeping administrative requirements in view. The transfer orders for all 606 personnel were issued on Thursday.
