606 police personnel transferred across Beed district
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In one of the largest annual reshuffles in recent times, as many as 606 police personnel in Beed district have been transferred under provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, and its 2015 amendment.

The district has about 2,166 policemen working across the hierarchy against a sanctioned strength of 2,310, data shows.
Superintendent of police Navneet Kanwat said the eligibility for the routine transfer was determined on three criteria: completion of five years of service (continuous or intermittent) at the same post by May 31 (229 personnel); completion of 12 years of service within the same taluka (216 personnel); and postings in their native taluka (161 personnel).
"The transfers were carried out as per the directives laid out in state govt's resolution dated April 23, 2010. A district-level establishment board was constituted to implement the process, and a review meeting for the annual transfer cycle was held on March 27 this year," he said.
Subsequently, all eligible personnel were asked to submit transfer requests. From May 14 to 16, the SP office conducted in-person counselling sessions to hear individual cases.
Transfers were then finalised based on manpower availability, case load, law and order requirements, and vacant posts at stations and branches.
Of the 606 personnel, a significant number — 363 — was found eligible for transfer from within Beed taluka. However, due to concerns over a potential manpower shortage if all were moved out simultaneously, the board decided to relax criteria in certain cases. Accordingly, exceptions were granted to 49 personnel on administrative grounds, 13 on medical grounds, 1 national-level athlete with medal achievements, and 4 technical specialists.

Kanwat said additionally, in line with the DGP's circular dated May 21, 2013, as many as 30 personnel due to retire within a year were retained in their current postings. Fifteen others were granted a one-year extension due to administrative, medical, educational or family-related considerations.
Officials emphasised that the entire process was carried out in a transparent and impartial manner, keeping administrative requirements in view. The transfer orders for all 606 personnel were issued on Thursday.

Authorities have advised political representatives not to visit the locality until the curbs are lifted. Citizens have also been warned against spreading rumours online. Man gets rigorous life term for killing three minors over old enmity
Prayagraj: The Kaushambi sessions court on Wednesday awarded rigorous life term to a 30-year-old man, who had allegedly killed three minor girls by mixing poison in their toffee over an old enmity with their family in 2023. As per police, the conviction comes as part of the 'Operation Conviction' launched by the DGP against serious offences in the state. Under the drive, the additional director general, Prayagraj zone and IG, Zone, Prayagraj are continuously monitoring such matters to ensure conviction of accused persons. Police said the incident took place in Saurai Buzurg village, under the Kada Dham police station area, on Aug 17, 2023. One Rajkumar Prajapati informed the police that his 8-year-old daughter Varsha was sleeping on the terrace when Shiv Shankar threw poisoned candies on her bed. The next morning, Varsha picked them up and, along with her cousins Sadhna (7), Shalini (6), and Aarushi (4), consumed them. After consuming the candies, all the children fell ill and were taken to the district hospital, from where they were referred to Prayagraj. Sadhna, Shalini and Varsha Rani passed away while Aarushi survived. A case under section 302 (murder) of IPC was registered against Shiv Shankar based on the complaint of Rajkumar. After prompt investigation, a charge sheet was submitted, and the court took cognizance and criminal trial commenced accordingly. After recording testimony of witnesses both from prosecution and defence side, and cross- examination, the additional sessions judge– 3, Kaushambi found Shiv Shankar guilty of killing the three girls. In the complaint filed with the Maharashtra DGP and Juhu Police Station in Mumbai, Balkaur said that the documentary was made without his permission, and it 'contained false content about his son's murder'. He added that the documentary could be an attempt to tarnish his son's legacy. He said that the documentary includes interviews with individuals named in the FIR related to his son's murder, which he believes could affect the ongoing case. Later in the evening, Balkaur told media persons that that release of the documentary is like derailing the ongoing investigation into the murder case. He said that two witnesses have already testified in the court and he would be the third witness to testify in the coming days.
