MENA Travel Market Forum launches in Amman, showcases Jordan's tourism potential

AMMAN — The MENA Travel Market Forum opened on Sunday in Amman, bringing together over 90 exhibitors from 18 countries and drawing more than 1,500 visitors and professionals from the global tourism and travel sectors. Deputising for the prime minister, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Lina Annab inaugurated the event alongside Secretary-General of the Ministry Fadi Balawi and Director-General of the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat. Annab toured the pavilions of participating tourism, travel, and aviation companies. The forum honoured several "influential" figures for their contributions to advancing the tourism sector. Among those recognised were former minister of tourism and Chairman of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Nayef Fayez, and Director-General of the Jordan Tourism Board and CEO of Royal Jordanian Airlines Samer Majali. They were acknowledged for their dedication to promoting tourism and enhancing Jordan's standing as a "premier" travel destination. Arabiyat said that JTB, in collaboration with the private sector, is committed to enabling "unique" events that highlight Jordan's diverse offerings from its natural beauty and year-round climate to its readiness to host major international conferences and exhibitions. "We are proud of the distinguished tourism forums hosted in Jordan," he noted. "Plans are underway for a second, more diverse edition of this event, which we aim to hold in Aqaba due to its strategic location and advanced tourist infrastructure,' he noted. Arabiyat also announced the recent launch of an incentive programme to boost conference tourism and called for broad participation in future editions. Forum CEO Khaled Shanana said that the event aims to provide a comprehensive platform that brings together tourism decision-makers and industry leaders to foster regional cooperation and expand opportunities for joint action. He also highlighted Jordan's "key" regional role, supported by its stability, security and modern infrastructure. Forum Director-General Mutasem Dalabih said that the event presents a "unique" opportunity to showcase the Kingdom's tourism assets and connect domestic institutions with global counterparts to build long-term strategic partnerships. The forum serves as a "major" regional platform linking travel companies, hotels, airlines, government agencies and investors to share experiences and explore cooperation opportunities. The event also aligns with the Kingdom's Economic Modernisation Vision and reinforces Jordan's role as a regional hub for tourism and international exhibitions. The two-day programme includes panel discussions and lectures by top international experts, addressing topics such as aviation's future, digital transformation, sustainable tourism and ecotourism, artificial intelligence, tourism investment and collaborative promotion strategies. © Copyright The Jordan Times. Al Azraq beach in Aqaba awarded 2025 "Blue Flag" certification for third consecutive year

Aqaba's Al Azraq Beach earns the prestigious "Blue Flag" certification for 2025 (Petra photo) AMMAN — Aqaba's Al Azraq Beach has once again earned the prestigious "Blue Flag" certification for 2025, marking the third consecutive year the beach has met the international eco-label's rigorous environmental and quality standards. During a flag-raising ceremony held on Monday, Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Nayef Fayez described the achievement as a testament to ongoing efforts to preserve the Gulf of Aqaba as a sustainable natural "treasure" and a leading ecotourism destination, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Fayez noted that the award reflects the successful implementation of ASEZA's 2024–2028 strategic plan, which aims to promote responsible tourism, safeguard marine biodiversity, and position Aqaba as a regional model for sustainable coastal development. The ceremony, held at the Aqaba Marine Reserve, also included the participation of 40 students from the Ninth Elementary School for Boys as part of the "#Know_Your_Reserve" environmental awareness programme. The initiative, run by the reserve, engages students in marine conservation efforts and fosters a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting the coastal ecosystem. The Blue Flag Programme is a global initiative of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that recognises beaches and marinas that meet strict criteria related to water quality, environmental management, education, and safety. The Royal Marine Conservation Society (JREDS) is responsible for implementing the programme and overseeing the evaluation and qualification processes.

Jordan: Energy Ministry, ASEZA discuss efforts to secure natural gas in Aqaba

AMMAN — The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) on Thursday discussed the latest developments in Sheikh Sabah Port Natural Gas Development Project and its gasification facility, which would secure natural gas in the southern industrial zone in Aqaba. During a meeting held in Aqaba, ASEZA Chairman Nayef Fayez discussed with Minister of Energy Saleh Kharabsheh and the ministry's technical team ways to boost cooperation regarding the multi-use liquids port, which aims to increase "efficiency" for this sector, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. They also went over mechanisms for implementing natural gas projects in the southern region. Talks during the meeting discussed the role of the National Water Carrier Project and importance of expediting its completion, as "one of the Kingdom's most vital" projects, which contributes to desalination of the Gulf of Aqaba water and requires providing technical solutions for pumping water through the carrier's routes. Discussions also went over the importance of establishing facilities to meet current and future demand for imported petroleum derivatives and liquefied petroleum gas. This effort will contribute to reducing industrial production costs by using natural gas, enhancing "competitiveness" of Jordanian products domestically and internationally, and "positively" boosting job creation and expansion of the export base to new markets and products, Petra said. Held as part of the framework of implementing the government's strategy, in cooperation with ASEZA, the meeting sought to fulfil obligations towards investors and achieve the Kingdom's vision to supply "major" investment projects with liquefied natural gas across various sectors. © Copyright The Jordan Times.
