AMMAN — The MENA Travel Market Forum opened on Sunday in Amman, bringing together over 90 exhibitors from 18 countries and drawing more than 1,500 visitors and professionals from the global tourism and travel sectors.
Deputising for the prime minister, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Lina Annab inaugurated the event alongside Secretary-General of the Ministry Fadi Balawi and Director-General of the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat.
Annab toured the pavilions of participating tourism, travel, and aviation companies.
The forum honoured several "influential" figures for their contributions to advancing the tourism sector.
Among those recognised were former minister of tourism and Chairman of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Nayef Fayez, and Director-General of the Jordan Tourism Board and CEO of Royal Jordanian Airlines Samer Majali.
They were acknowledged for their dedication to promoting tourism and enhancing Jordan's standing as a "premier" travel destination.
Arabiyat said that JTB, in collaboration with the private sector, is committed to enabling "unique" events that highlight Jordan's diverse offerings from its natural beauty and year-round climate to its readiness to host major international conferences and exhibitions.
"We are proud of the distinguished tourism forums hosted in Jordan," he noted.
"Plans are underway for a second, more diverse edition of this event, which we aim to hold in Aqaba due to its strategic location and advanced tourist infrastructure,' he noted.
Arabiyat also announced the recent launch of an incentive programme to boost conference tourism and called for broad participation in future editions.
Forum CEO Khaled Shanana said that the event aims to provide a comprehensive platform that brings together tourism decision-makers and industry leaders to foster regional cooperation and expand opportunities for joint action.
He also highlighted Jordan's "key" regional role, supported by its stability, security and modern infrastructure.
Forum Director-General Mutasem Dalabih said that the event presents a "unique" opportunity to showcase the Kingdom's tourism assets and connect domestic institutions with global counterparts to build long-term strategic partnerships.
The forum serves as a "major" regional platform linking travel companies, hotels, airlines, government agencies and investors to share experiences and explore cooperation opportunities.
The event also aligns with the Kingdom's Economic Modernisation Vision and reinforces Jordan's role as a regional hub for tourism and international exhibitions.
The two-day programme includes panel discussions and lectures by top international experts, addressing topics such as aviation's future, digital transformation, sustainable tourism and ecotourism, artificial intelligence, tourism investment and collaborative promotion strategies.

TIME Hotels reports 6.3% summer occupancy growth

TIME Hotels, the UAE-born hospitality brand, has announced positive summer 2025 results, recording significant year-on-year growth in occupancy, average daily rates (ADR), and revenue per available room (RevPar). This underscores the company's strategic focus on high-growth markets and highlights the region's increasing appeal as a year-round tourism destination, the group said. During June this year, TIME Hotels saw a notable 6.3% rise in occupancy compared to the previous year, indicating increased demand during the quieter summer months. Year-to-date, the group has achieved an overall 16.6% growth in occupancy compared to the same period in 2024, demonstrating the company's ability to sustain volume during off-peak travel periods. Furthermore, the company has achieved double-digit growth in ADR and RevPar figures, supported by a pricing strategy implemented to boost volume and value. Mohamed Awadalla, CEO of TIME Hotels, said: "Our performance this summer demonstrates our strategic focus on flexibility and guest-oriented offerings. By recognising new guest segments and proactively responding with customised products and experiences, we continue to strengthen our competitive edge. 'Moving forward, we remain committed to solidifying our position as the preferred hotel operator among travellers, as well as supporting the Middle East's reputation as an appealing, year-round travel destination." Analysis of guest booking patterns across TIME Hotels' portfolio has identified two key travel segments driving growth. Summer 2025 has experienced significant increases in bookings from families, especially those from GCC countries and other regional markets, who are increasingly favouring long-stay packages, interconnected rooms, and bundled offers that include activities for children, dining incentives, and shopping discounts. The company also reported increased interest from younger travellers, including Gen Z and Millennials. These guests are typically prioritising shorter, experience-rich city breaks, digital booking convenience, and immersive local activities. The brand's properties in urban centres such as Dubai and Sharjah have particularly resonated with this demographic, capitalising on a strong social media presence and innovative, contactless hospitality solutions. The sustained growth of TIME Hotels aligns with broader regional trends, positioning the Middle East as a year-round destination. Enhanced indoor attractions, comprehensive event calendars, favourable summer hotel rates, and proactive government-driven tourism campaigns have collectively increased the region's appeal. Further highlighting the region's appeal as a tourism destination throughout the year, the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) recently announced that the emirate welcomed 9.88 million international overnight visitors between January and June 2025, a 6 per cent increase from the same period in 2024. 'At TIME Hotels, we will continue to capitalise on the numerous factors attracting visitors to this region through strategic marketing initiatives and customised guest experiences that directly respond to changing traveller preferences,' said Awadalla. 'With our robust summer performance serving as a solid foundation, we are in a strong position to maintain this growth trajectory,' he concluded. TIME Hotels currently operates 17 hotels throughout the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, with over 3,000 keys, and has 12 properties and 5,000 keys in the pipeline, including properties across Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Morocco, and the Indian Ocean. The expansion into these countries is supported by the strategic rollout of the group's expanding portfolio of brands. These include VIVI by TIME, a bold lifestyle brand; HALO by TIME, a premium upscale offering; and Rotella, TIME Hotels' luxury concept designed to provide exclusivity, sophistication, and culturally enriched hospitality. The company is also repositioning its residential offerings across three distinct tiers, TIME Residences Classic, Executive, and Premium, to serve both long- and short-stay guests. Jordan: CARC to issue first drone operator license this week

AMMAN — The Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) is set to issue the first license for a drone operator this week. Speaking to the public service TV, Al Mamlaka, CARC Chairman Haitham Misto said that the new drone regulations, set for 2025 and issued in accordance with Civil Aviation Law of 2007, will allow drones to be operated for various purposes across different sectors. 'The regulations were introduced to formally organise the use of drones in Jordan, particularly for photography, advertising, and other commercial activities,' Misto said. He said that licenses will be granted only after applicants obtain necessary security clearances from relevant authorities. 'These approvals will apply not only to the applicants but also to employees involved in drone operations, as well as to the locations where the drones are stored, operated, or manufactured.' Misto added that the new regulations outline several approved purposes for drone licenses, including artistic and film production, advertising, tourism marketing, private event coverage, geographic surveying, building and facility cleaning, security surveillance, crop monitoring, spraying fertilisers and pesticides, small package delivery, and infrastructure inspection. Misto also said that companies applied for licenses to operate drones in Jordan in April. 'Three of these companies have completed the licensing process after the necessary regulatory steps were taken.' 'This progress is part of the ongoing initiatives by the National Council for Future Technology.' Misto said that the companies intend to use drones for a variety of purposes, ranging from tourism and aerial photography to surveying and even cleaning high-rise buildings. © Copyright The Jordan Times.
