Contraband fags seized in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Marine Police Force (PPM) seized 387 cartons of smuggled cigarettes from a neighbouring country, valued at RM149,318.40 excluding tax, during a raid at a mangrove area in Kampung Puyut, on Thursday. Commander of PPM Region 4 Sabah, ACP Nazri Ibrahim, said the operation at 5.20am found 238 cartons of Astro Black Menthol cigarettes and 149 cartons of A One Mild Menthol cigarettes hidden in the mangrove area. 'The raid was conducted based on PPM intelligence at the location. The cigarettes were hidden there to avoid detection by authorities. 'So far, no individual has come forward to claim ownership of the items,' he said in a statement, Friday. He added that the case will be investigated under the Customs Act 1967. MARINE POLICE SEIZE 387 CARTONS OF SMUGGLED CIGARETTES IN LAHAD DATU LAHAD DATU, May 23 (Bernama) – Marine Police Force (PPM) seized 387 cartons of smuggled cigarettes from a neighbouring country, valued at RM149,318.40 excluding tax, during a raid at a mangrove area in Kampung Puyut yesterday. RM13mil diesel smuggling ring busted in Sabah, 11 arrested
KOTA KINABALU: The Marine Police Force (PPM) seized two vessels and confiscated subsidised diesel worth a total of RM13.29 million yesterday. Sabah PPM Region 4 Assistant Commissioner Nazri Ibrahim said both vessels were detected in the waters off this district. He said the operation team also detained 11 local men aged between 20 and 50 who were on board the vessels. "Both vessels were caught in the act of illegally transferring fuel, and as a result, the team managed to seize 78,500 litres of diesel," he said in a statement today. He said the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), adding that they will continue to work with other agencies to combat the smuggling of controlled goods. Since January, enforcement action has been taken in 80 cases across Region Four Sabah, leading to seizures worth over RM28.61 million and the arrest of 107 individuals. "Inter-agency operations, especially with KPDN, have helped streamline intelligence gathering and arrests during every operation conducted. "Operations have been focused on the districts of Kudat, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Semporna, and Tawau, which are located close to neighbouring countries." Nazri also welcomed public tip-offs in the fight against crime and urged people to contact the operations room at 088-454820 or via the PPM Region 4 Sabah Facebook page.

Attempt to misappropriate six tonnes of CPO foiled

LAHAD DATU: Marine police foiled an attempt to misappropriate Crude Palm Oil (CPO) in an operation at a premises in Jalan POIC, here, on Thursday. Sabah (Region Four) Marine Police Commander ACP Nazri Ibrahim said six tonnes of CPO, worth RM114,800, were seized. He said two men aged 30 and 43 were in the midst of transferring the CPO from a tank to barrels at the back of a lorry during the 3.50pm operation. All the items were seized for further investigation, he added. Sabah Region Four MPF Commander ACP Nazri Ibrahim said the seized CPO, discovered during a 3.50pm raid, was estimated to be worth RM114,800. Two local men, aged 30 and 43, were caught in the act of transferring the CPO from a tank into barrels on a lorry. Both suspects were detained for investigation under Regulation 5(1)(b) of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board Regulations 2005.
