Neenah moves forward with potential wheel tax to replace repealed street fee
NEENAH, Wis. (WFRV) – The City of Neenah is one step closer to implementing a new wheel tax after officially eliminating its controversial Transportation Assessment Replacement Fee (TARF). The TARF, which required each homeowner to pay a $40 annual fee to help maintain roads and sidewalks, was repealed after facing legal challenges. Now, the city is considering a $30 annual wheel tax on vehicle owners to replace the funding previously collected through the TARF. 'The wheel tax is estimated to bring in just over $800,000, which is what the TARF brought in,' said Neenah Mayor Jane Lang. 'It's really swapping one for the other.' If approved at the next city council meeting, the wheel tax would go into effect in 2026. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 'Love From Lisa' donation event held in honor of local woman
DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – Lisa Becker, who passed in 2021, was known by family members for her generous spirit and her strong belief in giving back as she often collected items for local shelters. Sunday saw a touching tribute in honor of Lisa as this year's 'Love From Lisa' donation drive supported the De Pere Police Department with help from her boyfriend's employer and her church. Neenah & Oshkosh West High Schools combine for inclusive prom and basketball games for students with disabilities Lisa's family members say the community's overwhelming response to the donation drive was just the kind of impact she would have loved. We do a charity event every year. Some sort of collection in her honor and this year we were overwhelmed with the generosity of our community, family, and friends for all the stuffed animals we got for the police department. Judi Becker, Lisa's mom Judi also says that Lisa was her best friend as well as a wonderful mother and nurse. Lisa started these collections when her kids were very young helping them learn the importance of helping others. UWGB honors Alex Smolecki with 26.59-mile walk to Lambeau Field In a Facebook post, event organizers say the success of Sunday's drive was a massive understatement and the post also thanked everyone who contributed.
