Nepal to host Power Summit 2025 in September

Kathmandu, Jul 15 (PTI) Nepal will host Power Summit 2025 in September here, said Ganesh Karki, president of Independent Power Producers' Association of Nepal (IPPAN) on Tuesday. The summit aims to support the implementation of Nepal's energy development roadmap, which targets generating an additional 25,000 megawatts of electricity within the next decade, Karki said, during the inaugural of the 23th annual general meeting of the body in Kathmandu. Nepal aims to generate a total of 28,500 MW of hydro-electricity by 2035. Currently Nepal is producing 3,500 MW of electricity. The event will bring together investors, government officials, experts, and stakeholders from over 30 countries to discuss policy debates, share successes stories and exchange views. Karki asked the government to provide tax exemption to new hydropower projects for the first 10 years of production, liberalise government policies to attract more investment and to reform government procedures relating to hydropower generation. Energy Minister Deepak Khadka asked the private sector to invest in transmission lines and assured that the government would encourage the private sector as well as foreign investors to invest in the hydropower sector of Nepal. Chief guest at the occasion, former prime minister and Nepali Congress chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba, advised the government to create an investment-friendly environment for both Nepalese as well as foreign investors. Campa Goes Global: Reliance Consumer Products Partners with Nepal's Chaudhary Group to Launch Soft Drink Brand

New Delhi – In a strategic move to expand its international footprint, Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL), the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries, has formally entered Nepal's beverage market with the launch of its iconic soft drink brand, Campa Cola. The company has partnered with Nepal's largest business conglomerate, Chaudhary Group (CG), for local production and distribution an alliance expected to reshape the competitive landscape of the region's soft drinks segment. The announcement was made on Monday through a joint statement by both companies, highlighting the long-term commitment of RCPL to the Nepalese market. 'This launch marks a significant milestone for us as we extend our portfolio beyond Indian borders and reaffirm our commitment to regional growth,' said Ketan Mody, Executive Director, RCPL. 'Our collaboration with the Chaudhary Group is not just a business alignment—it's a shared vision to enhance the beverage experience for Nepalese consumers.' Under the partnership, Chaudhary Group will facilitate the manufacturing and nationwide distribution of the Campa range in Nepal. The initial product lineup includes Campa Cola, Campa Lemon, Campa Orange, and two energy drink variants Campa Energy Gold Boost and Campa Energy Berry Kick. This rollout follows the successful relaunch of Campa Cola in the Indian market in 2023 after Reliance acquired the brand in 2022. This development also places Nepal among the growing list of markets where Campa has been introduced, following its debut in the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Bahrain earlier. The expansion underscores RCPL's ambitions to compete with global beverage giants by positioning Campa as a high-quality, value-driven alternative in the carbonated drinks segment. The Chaudhary Group widely known for its flagship brand Wai Wai noodles is a formidable force in the region, with a vast business presence across over 200 companies and 260 brands operating in sectors ranging from FMCG and financial services to infrastructure and education. The partnership brings together Reliance's robust FMCG supply chain expertise and Chaudhary Group's deep local market insights and distribution network. Speaking on the collaboration, Nirvana Chaudhary, Managing Director of CG Corp Global, said, 'We are proud to partner with Reliance Consumer Products to bring Campa to Nepal. This aligns with our mission to deliver high-quality and accessible consumer products to every corner of the country.' Industry observers view this move as a well-calculated strategy by Reliance to tap into South Asia's growing demand for affordable and recognizable beverage options. With Nepal's young demographic, rising urbanisation, and expanding retail landscape, the market offers fertile ground for a legacy brand like Campa to re-emerge as a household name. As competition in the beverage segment heats up across the subcontinent, RCPL's cross-border expansion, backed by trusted regional players like the Chaudhary Group, could signal a new era for homegrown brands with global aspirations. © Aashish Tripathi is a Nepal-based Indian journalist working in India, reporting on South Asian business, policy, and market trends. Tejashwi targets electoral roll revision exercise — ‘Ruining Bihar's roti-beti ties with Nepal'

Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and Bihar 's Leader of Opposition has accused the Narendra Modi government of 'ruining' the familial and kinship ties between Bihar and Nepal – a remark that comes amid speculations of Nepalese and Bangladeshi nationals being found in the state's electoral rolls. The speculations come at a time when Bihar is conducting the Special Intensive Revision – an exercise of updating its electoral rolls. The voter enumeration exercise, which requires even existing electors enrolled after 2003 to provide documentary proof to establish their date or place of birth to determine citizenship, has drawn criticism from Opposition and other critics on the ground that it could 'disenfranchise' lakhs of people. In a post on X, Yadav, a former deputy chief minister of Bihar, said the state had a 'roti-beti relationship with Nepal', referring to the state's longstanding familial and kinship ties with Nepal. He goes on to say: 'Bihar shares a 600-km open border with Nepal. Gorkhas, citizens from Nepal serve in the Indian Army and are employed in Bihar Military Police. Recruitment drives are promoted in Nepal, urging people to join our army. With its narrow-minded approach, the Modi government is even ruining relations with our neighbouring country, Nepal'. Yadav also questioned the timing and intent behind the speculations, saying: 'Ever since the Supreme Court took cognisance of the matter (SIR) and advised the Election Commission, they seem rattled. Why doesn't Mr. Gyanesh Kumar (Chief Election Commissioner) come forward and clarify everything? Since they have nothing substantial to say, they are simply pointing to fake voters?' He went on to allege: 'If there are indeed fake voters in Bihar, who's responsible? It is the Election Commission and the NDA government. For the past 20 years in Bihar and 11 years at the Centre, the BJP-NDA have been in power. If any foreign nationals have crossed our borders, obtained Indian citizenship or have their names on the voter rolls, the responsibility lies with Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and their government. The security of the nation and the state falls under their jurisdiction'. The last Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll took place in 2003 under the previous United Progressive Alliance government, he said. 'Since then, there have been several elections, including three general elections where the BJP secured big wins in Bihar. Many years have passed, and we've seen several elections — including Modi's election victories in 2014, 2019, and now 2024. So, are they saying that, when we lost by 3-4 lakh votes, it was the foreigners who voted for Modi?' he wondered.

Foreign nationals in Bihar electoral roll: Tejashwi shifts blame to PM Modi and CM Nitish; claims BJP enabled illegal entry

NEW DELHI: A day after calling the Election Commission 's claim of coming across illegal immigrants during the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar as "bogus," Rashtriya Janata Party leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday blamed the Centre for enabling foreign citizens to enter the Indian states by crossing borders. In a social media post on X, Tejashwi said that responsibility for the security of the country and the state lies with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Nitish Kumar. "For 20 years in Bihar and 11 years at the Centre, the BJP-NDA government has been in power. If any foreign citizen has entered our borders, the ones responsible are Prime Minister Modi ji, home minister Shri Amit Shah ji, and chief minister Nitish Kumar ji. Because the responsibility for the security of the country and the state lies with them," Tejashwi said. "Is it with the strength of these foreigners that Modi ji has been winning 39 out of 40, or 33 out of 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar? Is it on the strength of these foreigners that Nitish-BJP has been entrenched in Bihar for 20 years? Bihar shares a bond of bread and kinship with Nepal. Bihar has a 600-kilometre-long border with Nepal. Nepalese citizens serve in the Indian Army. Nepalese citizens are employed in the Bihar Military Police. With its narrow-minded approach, the Modi government is even spoiling relations with the neighbouring country of Nepal," he added. This comes a day after sources claimed that field-level officials of the Election Commission (EC) have identified "a large number" of individuals from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar during ongoing house-to-house verification for the revision of the voters' list in Bihar. The EC has made it clear that the names of illegal migrants will not be included in the final electoral roll, which is set to be published on September 30. A proper verification process will begin after August 1 to determine the citizenship status of those flagged. The poll body is expected to expand this Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise nationwide to remove illegal migrants from electoral rolls by verifying individuals' place of birth. The drive takes on added importance as Bihar heads to polls later this year, with state elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal due in 2026. The revision is part of a wider crackdown on illegal immigration, particularly targeting those from Bangladesh and Myanmar.
