BREAKING NEWS Werrington murder probe launched after body is found dumped in remote bushland
Homicide detectives have been called in after a body was found in bushland in Sydney 's west on Sunday afternoon. Officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command were called to a reserve off Irwin Street at Werrington, about 50km from Sydney's CBD, about 1.15pm. The area has now been sealed off and forensic experts sent in. 'A crime scene has been established and an investigation has commenced by Nepean detectives, who are being assisted by the State Crime Command's Homcide Squad,' said a police spokesman. 'A canvass of the area is now being conducted by local police, assisted by PolAir.' More to come

Disqualified driver accused of hitting and killing woman then fleeing the scene is named
A disqualified driver has been denied bail after allegedly fleeing the scene of a fatal hit-and-run on a busy Sydney roadway. Police allege a 20-year-old disqualified driver fatally struck a woman believed to be aged in her 60s on Macquarie Avenue, Penrith, about 5.30pm on Thursday. Nine News and the Daily Telegraph identified the driver as Lasaro Tavai. Emergency services were called to the scene by which time Tavai had allegedly fled without stopping. The female pedestrian succumbed to injuries at the scene. Police released two pieces of footage as part of their investigation. In the first video, filmed on dashcam, a ute appeared to make a right-hand turn onto a busy roadway before barreling towards the woman's position. In the following frame, an orange ute could be seen waiting at the intersection while indicating before making the turn. Following inquiries and an appeal for information, the 20-year-old man was arrested the following evening at a Taloma Street home in Penrith at 10.40pm on Friday. Officers attached to the Nepean Police Area Command established a crime scene where crash investigators conducted forensic examinations. Tavai was taken to St Marys Police Station where he was charged with a raft of offences including dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), fail to stop and assist after impact cause death. Police also charged Tavai with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road. He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday. According to the Daily Telegraph, Tavai did not appear in court on Saturday where no bail application was made and was formally refused. His matter is reportedly listed for the same court on June 13.
