The actress and writer herself decided to confirm it was really her in a video

Gavin & Stacey star and co-creator Ruth Jones has finally joined Instagram and has chosen the most perfect name on the social media platform.
As many fans spotted, an account with the name 'Ruth Jones Genuine' popped up on Instagram on Tuesday night, August 12, with the added word to her name a potential nod to her beloved character Nessa from the BBC comedy series. And the actress and writer herself decided to confirm it was really her in a video, in which she began with an imitation of Nessa. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter .
"Oh, what's occurin'?' she asked in the clip. "I'll tell you what's occurin' - I'm Ruth Jones. The real Ruth Jones." She continued: "And I've finally decided after many years to go on Instagram. And the reason is, there's quite a lot of accounts out there pretending to be me, but they're not. This is the real me.
"So yeah, I'm starting my own Instagram journey, much later than everybody else in the world. And I'll be sharing a little bit of personal, a little bit of work and sometimes I won't say anything at all. Regardless, this is me, this is where you can find me, Ruth Jones genuine."
Celebrity friends and fans alike welcomed the Welsh star on the social media platform, and the messages came pouring in to the video's comment sections. "Immense!! Tidy!! Lush!!," actor Richard E. Grant said.
"Welcome sis," actress and comedian Dawn French commented. While Oscar Hartland, who played her onscreen son Neil The Baby, responded with: "Love ittt munnnn".

Fans of the author and TV star were chuffed the Nessa star had made the move to social media. One said: "Im so happy about this i not gonna lie," while a second added: "So excited to see the Real You here. Tidy."

And it probably comes as no surprise that one of the first things the actress did when she joined the social media platform was follow some of her fellow Gavin & Stacey cast members, including James Corden and Rob Brydon. It's been a busy time for Ruth, as the star has been filming for a new BBC drama inspired by Jane Austen - The Other Bennet Sister, alongside Richard E. Grant.
And she'll also be starring in a new Netflix thriller called Run Away, which has been adapted from Harlan Coben's book of the same name. The series will feature a stellar cast including James Nesbitt, and Minnie Driver, and is centred around the quest for a missing daughter. But only time will tell if the actress will be sharing behind-the-scenes snaps of both TV productions on her Instagram account.
