Adventure and fun returns to Carew Castle this summer
Carew Castle is offering a full programme of hands-on, family-friendly activities for all ages, running until September. From medieval treasure hunts to interactive fantasy adventures, the castle's summer events are designed to capture imaginations and make history fun. Daisy Hughes, manager of Carew Castle, said: "Our summer programme brings the castle to life in a way that families never forget. "Children love stepping into the world of a knight, exploring the battlements and taking part in adventures they'll remember long after the holidays. "It's a fantastic way to experience the castle in the height of summer." Medieval Adventure Days take place every Sunday to Thursday during the school holidays, except from August 23 to 25. The schedule includes the gory and entertaining Horrid Histories at 11am, followed by Have a Go Archery from 11.30am to 3pm. Knight School offers young visitors the chance to learn sword skills and battle stances before being knighted as Defenders of Carew. The day finishes with Find the Key!, a treasure hunt where only one of four hidden keys will unlock a reward. For those who enjoy immersive storytelling, The Storymaster's Quests: Castle of Adventure transforms the castle into a live fantasy experience. Created by immersive author Oliver McNeil and featuring the voice of Tom Baker, the show invites audiences to make choices that shape the story's outcome. Each performance blends theatre, suspense, and audience participation to create a unique adventure every time. Visitors can check the full schedule on the Carew Castle website. For families who prefer to explore at their own pace, Storm the Battlements! offers a self-led trail using a smartphone to follow clues around the castle. Participants will uncover secrets, explore towers, and earn a small prize as they complete the challenge. Beyond the main programme, visitors can also explore the castle's industrial history. The Tidal Mill, the only restored tidal mill in Wales, will be open throughout the holidays. Those looking for refreshments can visit Nest Tearoom in the nearby Walled Garden, which serves hot and cold drinks, homemade cakes, and light lunches. Ms Hughes said: "It's a fantastic way to experience the castle in the height of summer." Full details of events, bookings, and admission prices are available on the Carew Castle website.
