Nets' D'Angelo Russell receives big turnout during visit to Beijing
Brooklyn Nets guard D'Angelo Russell had an interesting 2024-25 NBA season as he began the campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers, but ended it with the Nets. Russell came to Brooklyn in a midseason trade that gave the Nets the point guard they needed at the time and while he's a free-agent this summer, he's looking to share some of his free time with his fans. Russell is currently in Kunming, Beijing as part of the promotion of his first signature sneaker, the "Dlo 1" series, and it seems that his fanbase extends beyond the borders of the United States, according to a couple of posts on X from NetsDaily. NetsDaily also notes that each fan had to pay the equivalent of $300 to be at the particular event to ask him questions and take pictures with him. Advertisement "Every signature shoe tells a story. For NBA star D'Angelo Russell, that story is one of evolution—marked by moments of breakthrough, quiet resilience, and iconic celebrations," per the blog post pertaining to Russell's shoe release on Russell's shoe is under the Way of Wade brand owned by current co-owner of the Utah Jazz and former NBA Hall-of-Famer Dwyane Wade. Russell, 29, is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 12.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 39.0% from the field and 31.4% from three-point land. During his 29 games with the Nets, Russell put forth 12.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest on 36.7/29.7/82.6 shooting splits at the end of his 10th season in the league. Russell will be a unrestricted free-agent this summer after completing the second year of the two-year, $36 million contract that he signed with the Lakers two years ago. It's unknown where Russell will be playing next season, but it seems like things are looking up for him off the court as he has finally has his own signature shoe and fans who are celebrating the monumental occasion with him. Report: Nets have 'beautiful' situation heading into the offseason
Report: Nets have 'beautiful' situation heading into the offseason The Brooklyn Nets came into this season hoping to put themselves in the best position to get the first overall pick in the top-heavy 2025 NBA Draft. While Brooklyn did not do the best job of getting to that goal given how many games the franchise won in the beginning of the season, their rebuild with the big picture in mind is something that is considered "beautiful." NetsDaily recently reported that a source indicated that "as one NBA source has told NetsDaily, 'the beauty of the Nets situation is that they can move in any direction.'" This reporting comes off the backdrop of NetsDaily pointing out that the Nets have the most tradeable first-round picks in the league at this point of the season, according to data from RealGM. While many have made the point that the Nets did not take advantage of getting their own pick back for this season given that Brooklyn's pick heading into Tuesday's slate of games is sixth, putting them behind teams like the Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans. More to the point, the Nets have the same record as the Philadelphia 76ers, a team that began the season looking to be a title contender in the Eastern Conference before shutting down superstar center Joel Embiid. "According to a RealGM survey published Friday, Brooklyn currently has access to 10 first rounders that can be traded, nearly twice as many as the next team, the Utah Jazz, who have six," NetsDaily wrote. "They also have than two, three and even four times more than every other NBA team besides the Jazz." As NetsDaily points out, the Nets have more draft capital that they can trade than any other team, something that could prove pivotal if Brooklyn decided to go after a player that would require multiple first-round picks to acquire. HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported on Monday that "the availability of Hornets guard LaMelo Ball is one of the stars several executives who spoke with HoopsHype will be monitoring on the trade market this summer," when discussing players that could be available this offseason. Ball is already in the middle of a five-year, $203.85 million contract with the Hornets, but if Charlotte decides to go elsewhere, Brooklyn could use their cap space to absorb his contract. While talking about Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young, Scotto wrote that "The question on the mind of executives around the league is whether or not Atlanta will commit a long-term extension to Young this summer or look to move him before having to pay him more money." Brooklyn's rebuild is still in the early stages so time will tell if they decide to go all-in on a short rebuild or remain patient enough to build the team through the Draft.

Sean Marks on Cameron Johnson: 'There was a lot of interest in him just as there was with a lot of our guys but we like Cam'
Specifically regarding Johnson, Marks noted, 'With Cam, there was a lot of interest in him just as there was with a lot of our guys but we like Cam and we think Cam fits multiple builds that we are doing. He's a voice of reason. He's well-respected within that locker room. He's a pro's pro. So if people can learn from somebody, they learn from Cam Johnson. That's a great guy to pick up habits from.' Source: NetsDaily Erik Slater @erikslater_ Nets GM Sean Marks breaks silence on holding Cam Johnson through trade deadline - 12:57 PM NBA Communications: The field is set for the STARRY 3-Point Contest at NBA All-Star 2025: ▪️ Jalen Brunson ▪️ Cade Cunningham ▪️ Darius Garland ▪️ Tyler Herro ▪️ Buddy Hield ▪️ Cam Johnson ▪️ Damian Lillard ▪️ Norman Powell Lillard seeks his record-tying third straight 3-Point Contest title. -via Twitter / February 7, 2025 Brian Lewis: Cameron Johnson: 'This (deadline) was a little different because I heard a lot of different stuff, just a lot. Every 3 days somebody's coming to me w/ something completely different. I didn't want to give my energy to any of those situations because you're setting yourself up.' #nets -via / February 7, 2025 Lucas Kaplan: At age 28, does Cam Johnson feel that he's improved as a player this season? Or that he's the beneficiary of more opportunity, and more offense designed for him? "I feel that this year I'm a much better player overall than I've been in the past. And I don't think this is the best I'll be. I will continue to push to be a better player next week and next year, and everything in between, and everything beyond that. "I think there are -- I get different opportunities this year. I think the shot profile is a little different. The one thing that I'm balancing is the reads of it all, the reads, the demands of it all, and trying to learn that, watch film, go over it, kind of see what's developing, see what I'm missing, see where turnovers come from, missed opportunities, and just kind of be critical in that lens and try to push that further. "And I've enjoyed it a lot. You know, it's a silver lining to all of this. With everything going on, we've been banged up, we've had this going on, that going on, rumors going on, but I've been trying to do my best to take advantage of the learning opportunity that's been presented to me." -via / February 7, 2025 This article originally appeared on Hoops Hype: Sean Marks on Cameron Johnson: 'There was a lot of interest in him just as there was with a lot of our guys but we like Cam'
