Report: Nets aren't worried about losing Cam Thomas in free-agency
The Brooklyn Nets have taken care of most of their business this offseason after taking five players in the 2025 NBA Draft and trading for Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. At this point, Brooklyn is looking towards training camp in late September and along the way, the hope is that they will be able to find a middle ground with restricted free-agent guard Cam Thomas. "According to league sources, nothing indicates the Nets are worried about losing Cam Thomas," NetsDaily reported during its latest update on the situation surrounding Thomas and Brooklyn. The report follows an article published by ESPN in which Tim Bontemps echoed the same sentiment as other insiders that Thomas could be the most likely of the remaining RFAs to take his $5.99 million qualifying offer (QO) due to the current state of negotiations. "Amid the stream of Fischer and Bontemps' reporting, one league source told NetsDaily where Thomas sees his market," NetsDaily continued. "(Phoenix Suns guard) Jalen Green, making $33.3 million per year until 2027-28, when he has a $36 million player option, (Toronto Raptors guard) Immanuel Quickley, making $32.5 million over the next four years, (and) (Miami Heat guard) Tyler Herro averaging $32 million over the next two years. 'That's where he sees his market, if not higher,' said the source." Brian Lewis of the New York Post reported earlier this offseason that Thomas was looking for his next contract to average around $30 million per season, but the reporting from NetsDaily suggests even bigger aspirations. Lewis noted in his report that Thomas believes that he is at least on par with players like Green, Quickley, and Herro when it comes to what he should be paid in his next deal. Given the way that negotiations have progressed between Thomas and the Nets, it seems that the former LSU Tiger is not getting close to the $30 million AAV figure that he's looking for this offseason. Brooklyn has the leverage and the cap space to essentially force Thomas to play for them for at least one more year. The only question that has to be answered at this point is if Thomas will take his QO or take the two-year, $29 million deal Brooklyn reportedly presented to him. What is the status of Nets RFA Cam Thomas heading into summer league?
The Brooklyn Nets officially made guard Cam Thomas a restricted free-agent on June 29 and it seemed that the ultimate goal was to bring him back to the Nets. However, as Brooklyn heads into its first game of the Las Vegas Summer League on Thursday, Thomas remains unsigned without much noise surrounding the negotiations and there could be a reason why. "I would say Cam Thomas wants to be paid and apparently, the Nets aren't too eager to pay him. I think that's probably the simplified view of that whole situation," ESPN's Tim MacMahon said during his appearance on "The Brooklyn Boys" podcast with Connor Long. Thomas is one of four restricted free-agents that seem to not have much of a market with the way that they remain unsigned by their respective teams. "He's a pretty polarizing player around the league," MacMahon continued. "The guy obviously can score like he can get buckets. Can he contribute to winning? I think is a big question around the league. My guess is that he is back in Brooklyn when next season starts, probably not on a long-term deal. I think there might be kind of a compromise between the parties where he's back and it's more of a short-term situation to allow him to get out into the unrestricted free-agency market at some point in the not-too-distant future." One of the more interesting storylines to watch for when it comes to the Nets and Thomas is how much he can command from Brooklyn given that the Nets were the only team that could offer more than the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception (NTMLE) heading into free-agency. The NTMLE is slated to be $14,104,000 million for the 2025-26 season so while Thomas would get a substantial raise, it wouldn't be what he and others expected him to get. One subject that MacMahon hit on is the fact that Thomas' value around the league seems to change depending on whose being asked for their opinion of him. "If you guys give Cam Thomas more than $10 million a year, entire off-season goes from being amazing to (expletive)," NetsDaily reported on Wednesday as how the opinion of Brooklyn's offseason would shift, according to NetsDaily's league source. Thomas seems to have hit free-agency at an unlucky time as most teams did not free up the cap space necessary to pay someone of his elk to a contract befitting of his talent, a deal around $20 million per year according to the general consensus during the season. Time will tell of Thomas ends up getting a contract of that magnitude, but if he doesn't, his stay with the Nets could be short-lived as he's entering his prime.

Report: Nets extend $5.99 million QO to Cam Thomas to make him RFA
The Brooklyn Nets had to make some tough decisions to begin the offseason as they had to decide which players they would be relying on from the 2025 NBA Draft. Brooklyn already made some decisions that will affect the rest of the roster by waiving forward Maxwell Lewis, and they continued to make some key choices with an important deadline coming up. HoopsHype NBA insider Michael Scotto reported on Sunday that the Nets extended a $5.99 million qualifying offer to guard Cam Thomas, officially making a restricted free-agent heading into the 2025 offseason. Now that Thomas is a restricted free-agent, Brooklyn has the right to match any offer sheet that any other team offers him in free-agency as teams might seek his scoring talents for next season. Advertisement Thomas, 23, is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 24.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 43.8% from the field and 34.9% from three-point land. However, Thomas heads into free-agency having played just 25 games last season as he dealt with multiple bouts of a left hamstring strain, the last of which ended his season in March. There have been various reports concerning Thomas and how much money he is expected to command in free-agency during a summer in which most NBA teams don't have much money to spend on free-agents. Per NetsDaily, Thomas is expected to command around $25 million per season in free-agency, whether that comes from the Nets or from another team via an offer sheet. Thomas should command plenty of attention in free-agency as he is regarded as one of the better free-agents on the market while having a scoring talent that every team can use on the floor. The Nets would be able to offer Thomas a contract around $25 million per year and if Brooklyn feels as committed to Thomas as he does to them, he should have a new deal coming sometime soon.
